Chapter 1152: Good Days in the Buddhist Kingdom Are Over

“First-in-Command, Second-in-Command, you’re back... No one’s here?”

Yun Mengmeng dashed out of the ancestral temple and found only Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi standing outside.

“Strange. I clearly heard the Second-in-Command’s voice. Sister Ao Ling, Sister Lianyi, have you seen the First-in-Command and the Second-in-Command?”

Jiang Lianyi’s expression turned odd. She wasn’t quite sure how to respond. After pondering for a while, she slowly replied, “It seems the two of them have eloped.”

A question mark popped out of Yun Mengmeng’s head.

~~~
“Does the Buddhist Kingdom have such a cold place?” Just as Lu Yang was feeling puzzled, he suddenly realized that there was nothing beneath his feet. He was falling from a precipice into a seemingly bottomless abyss bristling with towering blades of ice.
He instinctively tried to fly, only to discover that his immortal body had vanished; he couldn’t fly at all.
“Immortal Fairy, what’s going on? Have I left the Buddhist Kingdom?!”
Mmm, it seems that after you became an immortal, the distance you can cross with Close Horizon From Cliff has grown much farther. One step took you right out of the Buddhist Kingdom,” the Everlasting Immortal Fairy explained unhurriedly. “Your soul left the Buddhist Kingdom, but your immortal body couldn’t, so you ended up like this.”
Oh crap. Just moments ago, I lied to Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi about being unfamiliar with spells after becoming an immortal. Now, that lie has become reality, sending me right outside the Buddhist Kingdom.
Lu Yang was consumed by regret. Sure enough, lying comes with retribution. Back when I’d told partial truths, nothing like this ever happened.
I’m surrounded by ice and snow, falling from a cliff into a seemingly bottomless icy abyss beneath me. Could I have somehow arrived at the Extreme North?
This is a place notorious in the cultivation world for being so desolate that even birds wouldn’t poop here.
“I hadn’t even enjoyed a few good days in the Buddhist Kingdom. How have I already left?” Lu Yang lamented.
The Everlasting Immortal Fairy kindly comforted her subordinate. “Xiao Yangzi, cheer up. With this immortal by your side, isn’t every day a good day?”
Lu Yang felt his heart grow even colder.
Never mind all that for now. Let’s fly up first.
The abyss stretched endlessly. Even as they spoke, Lu Yang continued to plummet. But he wasn’t worried. His cultivation level had fluctuated to the Foundation Establishment Stage, and he could still fly.
“Wait, why can’t I fly?”
The Everlasting Immortal Fairy stroked her chin. “There appears to be an array at the bottom that prohibits flight.”
Lu Yang’s eyelid twitched. Misfortune truly never comes alone. He immediately activated a forbidden technique. “Heaven-Deceiving Fate-Defying Technique!”
He entered a death-like state and crashed straight onto the ground.
When Lu Yang released the technique, he had already dropped to the bottom of the cliff. His body ached all over, but it didn’t hinder his movements.
A yellow-orange lantern swayed before Lu Yang. A middle-aged man with a goatee seemed to have appeared from nowhere and was looking at him with concern.
The goateed man jumped in surprise when he saw Lu Yang wake up. “Young lad, you fell from that height, and you’re still alive?”
Lu Yang was also startled. Bumping into someone at the bottom of a cliff? Is this place some kind of local tourist attraction?
“This old man is Murong You. Young lad, what’s your name?”
Lu Yang felt a bit embarrassed about his fall, so he gave a false name. “I am Meng Jingzhou.”
Murong You rolled his eyes, not buying Lu Yang’s nonsense. What kind of figure is Meng Jingzhou? How could someone of his stature come to a place like this? “Why don’t you just say you’re Lu Yang?”
“I’m... Lu Yang.”
Murong You looked at Lu Yang with a peculiar expression. “Young lad, how did you fall?”
Considering that his earlier lie had brought him misfortune, Lu Yang decided to tell the truth. “After I became an immortal in the Buddhist Kingdom, I was demonstrating spells to the Dragon Ancient Ancestor and the Phoenix Ancient Ancestor. I accidentally lost control of the spell’s power and teleported myself here. By the way, where is this place?”
Murong You stroked his goatee, his gaze toward Lu Yang filled with growing pity. To have fallen from such a height, he must have had some life-preserving magical treasure that saved his life.
It’s a pity that, though he has survived, his brain seems to have suffered some damage. Buddhist Kingdom? Becoming an immortal?
Could this be a case of a major clan’s internal strife, with the family successor pushed off the cliff?
“This is Soul-Forgetting Cliff.”
“Soul-Forgetting Cliff? Is it in the Extreme North?” Lu Yang had never heard of it.
“Of course, it is.”
Lu Yang remarked inwardly, What a desolate place this Extreme North must be. I’m so famous, yet this person only knows my name and not what I look like.
“Young lad... I shouldn’t keep calling you ‘young lad.’ Do you remember your name?”
“I really am Lu Yang,” Lu Yang stated helplessly. He even took out his Dao-Seeking Sect identity jade tablet to show Murong You.
But Murong You had never seen an identity jade tablet of such a high rank before. He simply assumed it was some trinket Lu Yang had made out of admiration for the real Lu Yang.
He shook his head. “Your memory loss is really severe. How about I call you Little Lu for now?”
“Fine.” Lu Yang wasn’t one to be fussy about status and identity.
“Little Lu, do you want to come with me? Don’t let my appearance fool you. I am actually the sect leader of the Tiger Roar Sect, which boasts eight hundred members,” Murong You said with pride.
A sect with eight hundred people? That sounds pretty sizable. It’s just that Murong You’s cultivation isn’t particularly impressive; he’s only at the Basic Golden Core Stage.
“Sure.” Lu Yang reckoned that since he was completely in the dark about the Extreme North, he could follow a local to get a better understanding of the area.
Murong You extinguished his lantern and walked ahead, with Lu Yang following behind.
According to Murong You, the Soul-Forgetting Cliff was teeming with demon beasts. Keeping a lantern lit would easily attract them, and he wouldn’t fare well against them if that happened.
Due to the Soul-Forgetting Cliff’s unique environment, it nurtured numerous priceless herbs. Murong You had come to harvest a type of spirit grass called “Worry-Forgetting Grass.”[1]
Since flying was impossible at the Soul-Forgetting Cliff, his disciples had lowered him down with ropes. Once he found the herbs, they would pull him back up. As his disciples’ cultivation levels were too low, if they encountered demon beasts, they would be doomed. Hence, he had no choice but to come down and harvest the herbs on his own.
Lu Yang vaguely recalled seeing large patches of Worry-Forgetting Grass in the Dao-Seeking Sect’s herb garden. They grew as lush as weeds under the care of the Little Herb Kings.
“Found it!” Murong You exclaimed excitedly.
Not far away, several spirit grasses emitted a soft white glow. They were exactly the Worry-Forgetting Grass he was looking for.
“Three stalks! What incredible luck!”
Just as Murong You was about to go over to pick them, footsteps sounded from near the Worry-Forgetting Grass. Pairs of emerald-green eyes gleamed starkly in the darkness, with azure ice crystals glinting on the beasts’ foreheads.
“Icefield Wolves!”
Murong You staggered backward repeatedly in fright. Even an Advanced Golden Core cultivator facing a pack of Icefield Wolves would only have a one-in-ten chance of survival.
Just as Murong You braced himself for a desperate fight to the death, the snarling Icefield Wolves suddenly showed signs of fear. They let out low, whimpering howls and kept backing away.
As demon beasts, their senses were far keener. They could sense the two utterly terrifying auras from the calm, unperturbed young man standing behind Murong You.
These two terrifying auras belong to beings so supreme that even our old ancestor would shudder in fear before them.
The Icefield Wolves could no longer suppress their fear. They turned tail and fled, leaving Murong You dumbfounded.
Lu Yang fell into thought. Before coming here, I’d interacted with Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi. Did the wolves sense their auras?
