Chapter 1127: A Very Lively Cave Abode
Lu Yang opened his mouth, utterly nonplussed by Zhu Tian’s visit. I just went through all that trouble to dissuade Senior Ao Ling... Little Zhu, I’ve already overlooked the matter of you sending me beauties and requiting evil with good. Don’t say I didn’t help. I’ve really done my best.
“Wh-What’s wrong?” Zhu Tian asked gingerly. He couldn’t help but sense something amiss with the atmosphere. Why is everyone staring at me? Did I come at a bad time?
He had heard that Lu Yang had succeeded in his tribulation and even broken through the limits of the Void Refinement Stage, a feat that shook the world.
But his focus was on another matter. Big Brother Lu Yang is injured.
The injuries definitely can’t be severe; at least, they shouldn’t be life-threatening or leave any lasting damage. But since he’s injured, it gives me a legitimate reason to visit and strengthen my ties with him.
Since the Battle of Demon City, Zhu Tian had been reflecting. Every time something happened, Big Brother Lu Yang was present. Was it all a coincidence?
The answer is no. Big Brother Lu Yang’s presence wasn’t a coincidence; it was predestined by fate. I am the chosen demon who triggered the commencement of the Battle of the Great Era, and Big Brother Lu Yang is the witness. Both are important.
With this realization, Zhu Tian felt that he had grown closer to Lu Yang.
“Is it inconvenient? If so, I can come back later.”
“It’s nothing. Please come in.” Jin Caiwei stepped aside. Since he was already here, it was too late to leave now.
Zhu Tian entered the cave carrying two large chests of gifts to express his well-wishes. Behind him were his two attendants, whose hands were empty.
The chests contained spirit fruits unique to the Demon Kingdom and sacred healing medicines.
He could have taken them from his storage ring, but personally carrying them made for a greater visual impact. Having himself carry the gifts while the two demon emperor attendants carried nothing was for the same principle.
Once inside, the two demon emperors were extremely cautious, not even daring to breathe loudly.
Originally, they were puzzled as to why their monarch would specially come to the Dao-Seeking Sect to visit Lu Yang. Although Lu Yang was indeed the number one prodigy of the current era, they didn’t think he was that important to warrant a personal visit from their monarch.
Their monarch hadn’t explained, only telling them to follow along to bolster appearances and make the entourage look more impressive. He instructed them not to be surprised by anything they saw.
They had wondered what could possibly be surprising. Now, they knew.
The Dragon Ancient Ancestor, the Phoenix Ancient Ancestor, and the Qiongqi Little Ancestor are here. Coupled with their identities in the ancient Heavenly Court, Lu Yang’s true identity is all but obvious.
So the number one prodigy of the current age is merely Lu Yang’s identity on the surface?
Both demon emperors were old ancestors of their clans, erudite and knowledgeable. However, the thought of Lu Yang’s layers of identities still made their scalps tingle.
Perhaps he may even possess other identities beneath all that. Just look at the two stunning beauties attending to him on either side.
“Big Brother Lu, are you feeling better?” Zhu Tian asked softly, though he knew it was pointless. Lu Yang had the half-immortal Qing He and the sister of an immortal, Yun Mengmeng, looking after him; even the Four Ancient Immortals had never received such treatment.
“Much better.” Lu Yang nodded. His reply wasn’t out of courtesy; the Seven Emotions Incipient Dao Fruit was truly effective.
Zhu Tian noticed the battle still playing on the recording orb. Suddenly, he felt that a disaster was looming, though he couldn’t pinpoint the source. He could only ask sheepishly, “Big Brother Lu, are you learning half-immortal-level combat techniques? As expected of you.”
Ao Ling’s airy voice sounded behind Zhu Tian, sending chills down his spine. “Zhu Tian, I heard you call yourself the number one below immortals?”
Zhu Tian froze. He turned stiffly. He had only shouted this a couple of times during the Demon Kingdom’s founding ceremony. After Jiang Lianyi appeared, he had only shouted it inwardly.
He smiled obsequiously. “Sister Ao Ling, you must have misheard. I said I was the number one below half-immortals.”
“Is that so? Lianyi also said that you’re not the same as in ancient times and that you’ve improved so much that even I can’t beat you now.” Ao Ling’s eyes narrowed as she smiled at Zhu Tian.
Cold sweat trickled down Zhu Tian’s face. He could feel that his life was in danger. “Sister Lianyi, you must be joking. How am I qualified to be compared with you?”
“We just have to try to find out whether Lianyi was telling the truth.” Ao Ling’s eyes burned with fighting spirit. She clenched her fists, making them crackle, a sound that terrified Zhu Tian.
“Exactly, Zhu Tian. Why are you afraid of her?” Jiang Lianyi fanned the flames from the side.
“I really don’t dare; really, I don’t dare.” How could Zhu Tian dare to fight Ao Ling? What am I supposed to use to fight someone with an immortal body?
Seeing that Zhu Tian was unwilling to fight, Ao Ling couldn’t force him and had to give up, sighing inwardly.
She agreed with Jiang Lianyi on one point—the Law of the Jungle Incipient Dao Fruit grew more powerful the more people it controlled. Zhu Tian’s abilities must have improved significantly since the ancient era.
It’s a pity that Zhu Tian isn’t willing to fight me.
Knock, knock.
The sound of knocking came from the door again. “Is Lu Yang in?”
Jin Caiwei ran to open the door again. Once again, she was surprised to see the visitor.
It was the Xia Emperor.
“Cough, cough, cough—” Lu Yang coughed violently. I just have to stay in bed, and my injuries will heal in a couple of days. It’s not like I’m on my deathbed. Is it really necessary for one visitor after another to come check on me?
The Xia Emperor was stunned to see the crowded cave abode.
So many people?
The Xia Emperor had come to visit Lu Yang under Jiang Ping’an’s orders.
In Jiang Ping’an’s view, Lu Yang had Yun Zhi’s favor and was guaranteed to become an immortal in the future. Since he couldn’t have Lu Yang marry into his family, he could only find other ways to strengthen their relationship.
To him, Lu Yang getting injured was the perfect opportunity.
The Xia Emperor knew that Lu Yang had unclear relationships with many half-immortals that had to be kept a secret from outsiders. As such, even the Transcendent Tribulation cultivator secretly protecting him was left outside as he entered the Dao-Seeking Sect alone.
Zhu Tian possessed the Law of the Jungle Incipient Dao Fruit and could perfectly control his subordinates; even if they saw something they shouldn’t have seen, they wouldn’t spread it. However, the Xia Emperor didn’t have such an ability.
“Lu Yang, how are you feeling?” The Xia Emperor also carried gifts that expressed his well-wishes. They were treasures carefully selected from the national treasury.
However, Lu Yang had seen all sorts of immortal treasures by now. Ordinary treasures could no longer catch his eye. Still, he accepted the Xia Emperor’s kind intentions.
“It’s nothing serious. I’ll be fine with a few days of rest.”
“That’s good then.”
Looking at Lu Yang, the Xia Emperor couldn’t help but be reminded of his old ancestor’s words.
He had told his old ancestor about the Great Dou Dynasty, including his own position as chancellor. His old ancestor had fallen silent for a long time before finally speaking.
“Remember to leave a position for me.”
“Monarch Jiang?” Zhu Tian called out.
“Monarch Zhu?” Only then did the Xia Emperor notice Zhu Tian’s presence.
The Xia Emperor and the Demon Emperor froze. Neither had expected to meet the other party under these circumstances.
After all, as rulers of their respective nations, they could not act rashly. Any meeting and interaction required strict protocols, with the Ministry of Rites preparing for months in advance.
However, the Great Dou Dynasty also had a Minister of Rites who could arrange a meeting between the two monarchs.
The Minister of Rites, Yun Mengmeng, brought over two small stools. “Please have a seat.”
