Chapter 159: Chapter 158 :Bird In The Cage
The thirty minutes had stretched into an eternity of hell.
Haruto’s legs burned. Every step felt heavier than the last. The woman had not said a word in the last ten minutes. She was just slumped heavier against him now, her face buried in the crook of his neck, breathing hot and labored against his skin. Rain still hammered down like someone had opened a fire hose directly above them. The wind — which had been so merciless earlier — had only grown fiercer. Gusts that howled through the narrow gaps between the fields, whipping the grass into frantic green whips that slashed at his calves.
He was trapped. Completely. The storm had swallowed every direction. He had no idea where he was. He had never come this far on foot before. These were not the usual back roads he sometimes walked home from the shop and his girls house; these were narrow, overgrown lanes that twisted between, moss-covered rice paddies. The asphalt had long since disappeared, replaced by slippery mud that sucked at his shoes with every step. The street felt like it was closing in on him, the trees on either side leaning inward as if trying to trap him in this narrow corridor of darkness.
Lightning split the sky again and again, each crack so close that the thunder arrived almost immediately — a deep, rolling boom that vibrated through his bones and made the ground tremble under his feet. The flashes turned the world into violent strobing white: the woman’s profile, her eyes half-lidded and glassy, the way her soaked top clung to every curve of her body, the faint outline of her heavy breasts pressed against his chest. Water streamed off both of them in endless rivers. His clothes were heavy, dripping, cold and clammy at the same time. The grocery bag was soaked through now, its contents long forgotten.
He could not leave her here.
Not like this.
Not after everything — after she had peed right in front of him, after she had clung to him like a child, after she had whispered "Thank you, Haruto-kun" with that soft, innocent voice. Something in him had cracked open. He was no longer just trying to get rid of a stranger. He was carrying her because he could not watch her fall into the mud and drown. He was carrying her because the thought of leaving her alone in this storm made his chest ache with guilt he did not understand.
The path suddenly widened just a little. Haruto’s heart jumped. He saw it — the faint glow of a single window, the silhouette of a two-story wooden house rising out of the darkness. Old. Weathered. The kind of place that had probably stood here for years, its paint long faded to gray. The roof sagged in the middle, tiles missing in several places. A single porch light was on, flickering weakly in the wind.
This was it.
The woman stirred against him.
"Neee... home..." she mumbled, voice small and sleepy. "Just there... left side... from the edge..."
Haruto stopped. His legs shook. He wanted to set her down right there on the muddy path. He wanted to run back into the storm and never look back. His house was forty five minutes away on foot — if he ran. But the wind and rain had turned into a wall. The gusts were so violent now that he could barely keep his balance. If he tried to walk another step, he would be blown straight into the ditch.

He looked down at her. Her face was pressed against his shoulder, eyes closed, lips parted. She was still holding onto him with both arms, one hand curled weakly in the front of his wet shirt. She was not conscious enough to stand alone.
The invitation came in the softest, most childlike whisper.
"...Haruto-kun... can you... help me inside? Just a little... I’m so cold..."
Haruto’s throat closed. He wanted to say no. He wanted to turn around and disappear into the night. But the storm had won. His legs were jelly. His clothes were drenched. And the thought of leaving her on that porch — vulnerable, unconscious, alone in the dark — made something inside him twist painfully.
"I... I can’t stay long," he said, voice hoarse. "Just until the worst passes."
He helped her up the three wooden steps of the porch. The boards creaked under their weight. The front door was old, carved wood, painted black years ago. She reached out with trembling fingers and opened it.
The house was silent.
Deathly, suffocating silent.
The moment they stepped inside, the storm seemed to fade — distant thunder still rolled overhead, but inside the walls the air was still and heavy. No lights. The entire house was dark. Haruto could only make out faint shapes: a small hallway, a tatami mat floor that had seen better days, the faint outline of a sliding door leading deeper. The woman’s house felt like it had been empty for years.
Then the lights died.
A deep, crackling sound echoed from somewhere outside — the entire neighborhood had lost power. The storm had cut the electricity. The house plunged into total darkness, lit only by the faint, ghostly blue of distant lightning flashing through the single window at the end of the hall.
Haruto stood there, arms still supporting the woman, rain dripping from his hair onto the tatami. He could hear her breathing — soft, shallow, trusting. He could smell her again: sake and rain and something warm and sweet that was unmistakably her body heat. The grocery bag slipped from his fingers and landed with a wet thud on the floor.
He wanted to leave.
He wanted to run.
But he could not move.
The house was dark.
She was inside.
And the storm had trapped them both.
Haruto swallowed hard, heart pounding against his ribs, and waited for the next flash of lightning to guide them deeper into the silent, empty house.
The upstairs hallway was a narrow throat of darkness.
Haruto’s heart hammered so hard he could feel it in his throat. The woman — this complete stranger — had not let go of him for even a second. Her arms were locked around his neck, her body heavy and warm against his chest, her soaked head tucked into the curve of his shoulder. Rain still dripped from her hair in steady streams, soaking into his shirt and running down his back. The hallway smelled of old wood, faint cigarette smoke, and something sweeter underneath — the same intoxicating scent of sake and rain and her body that had been chasing him since the phone booth.

"Up... stairs," she whispered, voice small but strangely commanding. "My room... upstairs. Come... Haruto-kun..."
Haruto’s legs felt like rubber. He did not want to go. Every instinct screamed at him to turn around, run down those stairs, and vanish into the storm. But she was heavier than any backpack he had ever carried, and the thought of leaving her alone in this dark house made his chest twist with something he could not name. So he lifted her again — one arm under her knees, the other around her back — and carried her forward.
The hallway window at the end of the corridor was cracked open, and the thunder was right there with them.
Each crack of lightning split the night, illuminating the hallway in harsh, strobing flashes: the peeling wallpaper, the old wooden floorboards that groaned under their combined weight, the faint outline of a staircase going up into deeper shadow. The thunder shook the entire house. Dust motes danced in the beams of lightning. The woman’s breathing was hot and rapid against his neck, her lips brushing his skin with every exhale.
"Neee... open this door..." she murmured, pointing weakly with one trembling finger.
Haruto reached out with his free hand and pushed open the sliding door to her room. It creaked loudly, like it had not been moved in years.
The moment they stepped inside, the thunder cracked directly overhead.
The flash was blinding — a pure, white explosion that turned the entire room into a violent, frozen snapshot for what felt like ten full seconds.
Haruto stood stunned in the doorway, the woman still cradled against him, one arm supporting her weight.
The room was no longer empty.
Walls covered floor-to-ceiling in shelves and cabinets. Full of dildos. Long, thick, realistic-looking ones in every size and shape: pink, black, clear, veined, ribbed, suction-cupped, with and without glowing tips. Some were still wrapped in the wrappers from the sex-toy shops he had seen in the city. Others were used, slightly bent from years of aggressive play, glistening with old lube. On every single one of them, a fresh condom had been stretched tightly over the tip — bright blue, red, black, the kind you buy in bulk at the vending machines. Condoms everywhere. Stacks of them on the shelves, piled high like trophies. Bottles of thick, clear lube lined up like wine on a bar. A small refrigerator in the corner hummed softly, its shelves stocked with more lube and a few sealed packets of... something even more explicit.
The thunder flash faded, leaving Haruto in the afterglow of that single, horrifying image.
His mind reeled. He was standing in a room full of a woman’s... collection. A woman he did not know. An older woman. And the door behind them had just clicked shut.
He turned his head.
She was looking at him.
In the lingering blue afterimage of the lightning, her face was unmistakable.
She was not drunk anymore.
Her eyes were wide, pupils blown, glittering with something dark and hungry. A slow, wicked smile curled her lips — not the playful, childlike smile from earlier, but a genuine, dangerous, predatory grin. She looked like a cat that had just caught the bird. Her body was no longer limp against him. It was pressed tight, breasts heaving against his chest, nipples hard from the cold and whatever else was coursing through her now.
"Neee... Haruto-kun..." she whispered, voice low and silky. "You like my toys?"
Haruto’s blood turned to ice.
He stepped back — one, two, three — until the backs of his legs hit the edge of the bed. His knees buckled. He fell backward onto the mattress with a soft thud, the woman tumbling on top of him in the process. Her weight pinned him for a second, her breasts squishing heavily against his torso, her face suddenly inches from his.
One of her hands had slipped free from his neck and moved on its own — reflexively, almost unconsciously — toward the nearest shelf.

Her fingers brushed a thick, veined dildo that was still wrapped in its plastic. She gave it a playful little tug, the wrapper crinkling loudly in the sudden silence. Then her other hand drifted lower, picking up a small packet of condoms and holding it up like a prize.
Haruto’s eyes were huge.
He looked at her — really looked at her — and saw the truth in the devilish smile.
She had never been drunk.
She had never needed him to carry her home.
This was not an accident.
This was a game.
The storm outside roared louder than ever, thunder shaking the windows and making the entire room vibrate. Lightning flashed again, illuminating her triumphant, predatory expression in white light. The shelves of toys and stacked condoms surrounded them like a cage. The air was thick with the smell of sex, rain, and her — warm, sweet, and now unmistakably dangerous.
Haruto lay trapped beneath her, heart hammering, unable to move, unable to escape.
He was completely, utterly at the mercy of an older woman who had just revealed exactly what she wanted.
And the storm outside had turned the house into a soundproof prison.
Haruto swallowed hard, fear rising like bile in his throat, and stared into those glittering eyes as the lightning faded once more.
