Chapter 146: Boring Guy
Shit... I was still pretty inexperienced with women, to be honest. Kara was something, sure. She was the most popular girl back at college, and we’d had our fun. But looking back, she really wasn’t a lover, that much I could understand clearly now. She had just been pretending to love me. Thinking about it now, with how intense this felt, I wondered if Kara had just faked it every single time we had sex.
Either way, I wasn’t going to take Garmonna up on her offer. I still had to find that bastard Cadence and deliver him to justice, no matter what it took. I couldn’t let lust get the better of me right now, which was pretty ironic, considering I was literally blessed by the Goddess of Lust herself.
"Thanks," I said, exhaling slowly as I gently untangled myself from her grip. "But I’ll just take my coins and leave now."
"A boring guy, are you?" she teased, suddenly giving the tip of my shaft a sharp, playful squeeze right through the fabric.
The sudden jolt of friction shot straight up my spine. "Ah... crap," I muttered, my knees bending instinctively from the rush.
She chuckled, thoroughly amused by my reaction. She unlocked her legs from behind my back and placed the flat of her bare foot against my chest, giving me a firm but playful push backward. "Wait here."
She turned around, leaning her upper body deep over the desk to reach into one of the wide wooden drawers. From where I was standing, I had a direct, unblocked view of her pussy. It was stretched open, wet as hell, and absolutely ruined from the blessing. She was so incredibly wet that heavy, glistening juices were literally trailing down the insides of her thighs in thick streaks.
I forced myself to focus, tearing my eyes away from the sight.
Garmonna rummaged through the drawer for a second before pulling out two heavy leather pouches. She loosened the strings on one of them, quickly dumping all the silver coins back into the drawer. Once it was emptied of the cheap stuff, she tied the leather knot tight and tossed the heavy bag straight at me.
"One hundred and fifty. Gold." she said, her voice finally regaining some of its usual authority. "Spend them wisely, Ace."
I caught the pouch, the heavy clink of the gold coins music to my ears. "Thanks. I will."
Oh, yes... I will.

I opened the door quietly and stepped inside. The candles were out, and Ken was already asleep on the top bunk. The curtains were slightly open, letting a thin sliver of moonlight spill into the room and stretch across the opposite wall.
I took off my boots and sat on the edge of my bed for a moment.
Well... that whole experience with Garmonna... Yeah. That had been weird.
"Ace?" Ken muttered from the top bunk.
"Hey," I said as I lay down. "Did I wake you?"
"Nah. I’ve been dozing on and off. Just can’t sleep."
"Why is that?"
"I dunno," he said. "Just... feeling a bit uneasy, is all, you know?"
"You’re worried Cadence will send more people after us?"
"Yeah... I, uh... I guess."
He wasn’t the only one.
I felt like I had to sleep with one eye open because of that bastard. Cadence M... just how many tricks did he have up his sleeve?
I pulled the blanket over myself and stared at the underside of the top bunk. Outside, the rain had almost stopped, leaving only a light drizzle tapping against the windows. Somewhere farther down the corridor, a few boys were talking quietly. They were probably some of the volunteers who had agreed to stand guard during the night.
"Jelda," Ken said after a while. "And her mother... Gods. What a terrible fate."
"Yeah," I muttered. "I even talked to Hatche."
"Poor woman."
Hatche’s death was as suspicious as it could get. My best guess was that the killer had cast some kind of spell to throw me off, making it impossible to tell when she had actually died. If my theory was right, and when it came to things like this, I usually trusted my instincts, then she had already been dead when I first spoke to her.
Which made absolutely no sense.
"Where did you go, by the way?" Ken asked.
"Ah, just..." I hesitated. "Asked around the market. I wanted to see if anyone had visited the house we broke into."
"Yeah... that hidden cave place." He let out a tired sigh. "Man... what a nightmare. I don’t think I’ll forget that anytime soon. Like a damned nightmare."
Then I heard something. Or at least I thought I did.
"Hm?" I frowned. "Did you say something?"
"I said it was a nightmare."
"No... after that."
"Nope, I didn’t say anything." He shifted under his blanket. "You’re just getting sleepy, I guess. It’s late. We should get some sleep."
"Yeah... you’re right."
"Night."
"Night."

I woke to a knock on the door. And damn, was it persistent. I quickly swung my legs off the bed and shook my head. Ken was still snoring, and the sun had only just begun to rise. It was six-thirty. A few minutes later, I’d have woken up to my internal alarm clock anyway. Who was this?
I slipped on my slippers and walked to the door, opening it. A boy stood outside. I didn’t know him, and I was pretty sure he didn’t know me either.
"Ace, right?" he asked.
"Yeah?" I replied. "Something... happened?"
"Someone named Mio wants to see you," he said. "She’s out on the street."
"Oh... right. Thanks."
The boy nodded and walked away. Mio wanted to see me at this hour? It had to be something important.
I quietly opened my wardrobe, the wood creaking as I pulled the door open. Ken was still asleep. Since he hadn’t been able to sleep well last night, he probably needed the extra rest. Normally, he’d be the first one awake so he could avoid the breakfast line.
I put on my school uniform, straightened the hem, and stepped outside. This time I kept my slippers on and carried my boots in one hand. I didn’t need Null scolding me again.
"Morning," a boy said as I walked down the stairs.
"Yeah. Morning."
Jeez. When was the last time someone wished me good morning back in my world? The apartment building I’d lived in had been cold. Not because of the weather, but because of the people. They kept to themselves. They never spoke to me, hell, they barely spoke to anyone. I actually liked that kind of privacy, though.
Once I reached the ground floor, I put on my boots and placed my slippers into the small storage box assigned to me along the wall. Then I stepped outside and immediately spotted Mio. She was sitting on a bench near the boys’ dormitory. A few boys who had gotten up early kept glancing at her while whispering among themselves.
"Morning," I said as I walked over. "What’s up?"
"The wedding," she replied. "The Queen apparently has business to attend to over the next few days, so they moved the ceremony to today."
"Shit. Today? Really?"
"Yeah. The Merygold family wanted to make sure the Queen would be there. The celebration will last several days, so they pushed the date forward."
"Doesn’t matter," I said. "I already have the gold."
Her eyebrows shot up. "What? How? That... doesn’t make any sense. Did you rob someone?"
"No." I waved the question away. "Forget about that. How do I attend the ceremony?"
"You just show up at the mansion and pay the entrance fee," she said. "It’s simple. But... are you sure you actually have the coin?"
"Yeah. Don’t worry about it." I dismissed the concern with a wave of my hand. "When does it start?"
"After school. The Queen will be there too. What if she sees you?"
"I’ll be careful." I exhaled, putting a hand on my waist. "And also hope she doesn’t see me."
"I hope so, Ace." She let out a small sigh. "Anyway, that’s all I wanted to tell you. I’m going to get breakfast."
"Thanks for letting me know, Mio."
"Yeah. Just don’t forget what I said. Be careful."
"I will."
I nodded, and she returned the gesture before heading toward the girls’ dormitory. I watched her walk away, and my eyes drifted to her ass before I caught myself.
Damn. That night with Garmonna was still messing with my head. I felt like I’d blue-balled myself for absolutely nothing.
Never mind that.
I shook my head and headed back toward the boys’ dormitory. It looked like I had a party to attend this evening. I just hoped everything went according to plan. All I needed was enough dirt on the bastard to expose him. After that, I’d disappear before anyone noticed I had ever been there.
"Ace."
I stopped and turned toward the voice.
Null stood near the entrance with his arms crossed, his eyes as sharp as ever behind his glasses. He wore his academy uniform beneath his coat, and his usual cold expression hadn’t changed.
"Student Council President," I said. "Good morning."
"Mm. Morning."
"Right..." I rubbed the back of my head. "I’ll get going."
He didn’t answer. He simply watched me walk inside as if I were some kind of suspect.
Man... what was this guy’s problem?
