Chapter 1107: Chapter 1107: Restlessness
Xi Siyan had turned it down as much as he could but could only accept it in the end. Mrs. An didn’t know where she’d produced a whole pile of things with a flurry of noise and insisted that Xi Siyan take them back. At the end, she stuffed a thick envelope into his hand.
Xi Siyan tried to refuse, and Mrs. An’s face darkened slightly: "Si Yan, this is what you and Aunt agreed on back then. It’s one thing that you and An Rui are close, but you’re tutoring Xiao Ge, and you can’t not take the tutoring fee. These are two separate things."
Mrs. An looked gentle and dignified, but at her core there was a streak of dominance; whatever She said went.
So Xi Siyan had no choice but to take it. After thanking her repeatedly, he walked out of the An Family.
An Rui went with him, saying that the two of them hadn’t seen each other for a long time and needed a good talk.
Once they got in the car, Xi Siyan handed the envelope back to An Rui. "Help me thank Aunt."
An Rui leaned back against the seat. "Don’t screw me over. It’s not like you don’t know what my mom is like. Just take it, you earned it. You know Xiao Ge’s situation too, she doesn’t dare talk to strangers. Other than our family, you’re the only one she’s not afraid of. You’re the only one who can tutor her."
Xi Siyan pressed his lips together and didn’t say anything more.
All the way to Xi Siyan’s place, An Rui didn’t get out of the car, just raised a hand to him from inside. The alley was too narrow; the car couldn’t drive in and had to stop at the mouth of the lane.
Watching Xi Siyan’s back disappear into the darkness, then looking around at the surroundings, An Rui muttered a low curse: "Shit."
He had known Xi Siyan since fifth grade, when Xi Siyan transferred into their class. Later, they were in the same class in junior high as well. Xi Siyan was the classic "someone else’s kid" parents talked about, but strangely enough, An Rui not only didn’t resent him; their relationship just kept getting better.
Later, because of An Ge, the ties between Xi Siyan and the An Family also grew closer. They were all men, but sometimes even An Rui couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for this boy who looked cold and indifferent on the outside, yet was more starved for affection than anyone.
When Xi Siyan got home, he put away the pile of things Mrs. An had given him, then opened the envelope. Inside was a thick stack of RMB.
An Ge was seven years younger than An Rui and eight years younger than him, only eight this year. Because of her health, An Ge couldn’t communicate like a normal child. When she interacted with people, it was either over the phone, or it had to be family members or him, Xi Siyan.
This also meant An Ge couldn’t go to school and attend normal classes. Back in middle school, he had already tutored her. Her Chinese pinyin, 1-2-3-4, and the English alphabet had all been taught to her by him, bit by bit.
Mrs. An had always been generous with him. Tutoring elementary school courses wasn’t expensive at market rates, but Mrs. An had forced a sky-high price of five hundred yuan per session on him.
And now, there were at least five thousand yuan in the envelope.
Xi Siyan pressed his fingers to his brow and put the money into a drawer.
He took out two competition test papers and did a few questions, but Xi Siyan kept feeling that something was off. There was a slight emptiness in his chest, like he’d forgotten something very important.
He frowned, trying to push down that strange feeling in his heart, but it didn’t work. When his gaze swept over the phone on the desk, he remembered.
Zhou Chengchen seemed not to have replied to his message.
He picked up the phone and glanced at it. It was still quiet, without the slightest movement.
Xi Siyan’s brows furrowed deeper. It was just that she hadn’t replied—so why did he feel that little flicker of irritation in his chest?
