Chapter 1096: Chapter 1096: Leaving the Li Family

The apartment Xi Siyan moved into was a property allocated by Mrs. Li’s former workplace, an old small apartment from a state-owned enterprise. It’s very old and worn, but the advantage is it’s not far from City No.1 Middle School.

Even Li Chengyuan was a bit more cordial to him, handed a card to Zhang Yi, as the old apartment was quite empty and had hardly anything inside, instructing Zhang Yi to buy some furniture and appliances for Xi Siyan, at least to make it look like someone lived there.

Zhang Yi also showed a rare bit of maternal love towards Xi Siyan, cleaned up the small fifty-square-meter apartment, and bought new furniture and some necessities for him.

After two days, they finally managed to make it look habitable.

On Sunday afternoon, before Zhang Yi left, she left five thousand yuan for Xi Siyan: "Siyan, hold onto this money for now, be sure to take care of yourself outside."

Xi Siyan remained expressionless. Zhang Yi sighed and turned to leave.

After she had been gone for quite a while, Xi Siyan slowly walked back to the living room, which was now his study.

The fifty-square-meter apartment now consisted of a study and a bedroom, along with a kitchen, bathroom, and a small balcony.

Xi Siyan walked back to his brand-new desk and sat down. On it lay a phone, left by Zhang Yi, previously used by his nominal brother.

Xi Siyan’s lips curled into a wry smile. He felt resentment and anger in his heart but wasn’t sure whom to resent or hate.

Zhang Yi was right, she was already having a hard time herself in that household, how could she possibly take care of him as a burden?

As for Li Chengyuan, they were not related by blood anyway. The fact that he supported him through school, fed, and housed him, left Xi Siyan with little to blame.

As for those so-called brothers, sisters, and grandmother, well...

Xi Siyan rubbed his brow. Having been busy cleaning the apartment for two days, he hadn’t done his homework yet. He took out textbooks from his backpack and paused slightly at the touch of a large pack of cold medicine.

He tossed the medicine aside and continued searching for his test paper, only to find two more notebooks he didn’t know when had been added to his backpack.

Upon opening them, he realized they were Zhou Chengchen’s notes. When did she place them in his backpack?

Xi Siyan frowned, recalling Zhou Chengchen’s words, "With me here, nothing will be delayed," and his brows relaxed.

He composed himself and began working on problems.

There was something he didn’t mention to Zhang Yi, likely she assumed he didn’t know.

In fact, when he returned home on Friday, he overheard the conversation in Mrs. Li’s room as he passed by.

Mrs. Li and Li Chengyuan were discussing plans to only support him until he turned eighteen, which meant after high school graduation, they wouldn’t be managing him further. Li Chengyuan stated he’d discussed this with Zhang Yi long ago, and she agreed.

Xi Siyan coldly pulled the corners of his mouth, realizing in today’s society, even a bachelor’s degree might not suffice for survival, let alone just a high school diploma.

Yet, he also had no reason to complain. The Li Family was wealthy; sponsoring a college student wasn’t difficult for them, but why should they sponsor him?

After a brief distraction, Xi Siyan focused sharply on working on his problems.

He worked quickly and managed to finish all the weekend homework in just three hours.

After flexing his slightly sore fingers, Xi Siyan retrieved a set of competition problems from a box he hadn’t got around to organizing yet.

His scores in both math and chemistry were perfect on the entrance exams. He was the top student in his school. With his scores, attending City No.1 Middle School was entirely possible, but at the time, his current school wanted to keep him and promised three years of free tuition.
