Watching the empty tabletop, Elder Ge’s face grew awkward. When Ye Yu finally fell silent, he immediately fetched a cup of tea, set it before him, and said softly, “Here—take a few sips to soothe your throat. Don’t worry, there’ll be a solution. Just give me a little more time, and I’ll fix it for you.”
Ye Yu’s anger cooled by half at Elder Ge’s conciliatory tone. He mumbled, “Will three days be enough?”
“More than enough!” Elder Ge nodded eagerly. Then he raised his Communication Stone. “The Medical God has arrived. Please escort him to Xie Buyu’s chamber. I’ll make the best use of this time for my research.”
Ye Yu said nothing and strode out. When his figure disappeared, Elder Ge finally exhaled in relief—and then looked back down at the tabletop, murmuring, “How could it vanish like this? Did I really ruin the high-grade divine artifact?”
He placed his hand on the table and began blindly feeling around. Since Soul Severance had turned transparent, even his divine sense could not locate it. After a moment’s fumbling, Elder Ge’s expression turned grave.
“Where is Soul Severance? It’s not on the table... No way... Really gone?”
He dropped to his hands and knees, searching the floor. One incense-stick interval later, he had scoured the entire room—and confirmed the worst: Soul Severance had not only become transparent but had truly disappeared.
“Ah, this is a disaster!” he wailed. “It only endured two days of Ancient Divine Flame—how could its temper be so violent that it simply vanishes?”
Clutching his face, Elder Ge nearly collapsed in despair. If Ye Yu knew, his verbal tirades would reach even more dazzling heights of profanity. Yet he had only himself to blame. He’d boasted he could tame any artifact spirit, even the quirkiest of high-grade artifacts. Pure nonsense.
In truth, Elder Ge’s techniques were masterful—he was rightfully hailed as an Artifact Grandmaster—but every high-grade artifact spirit in the Divine Realm was a fearsome sentience. Taming them was beyond his power. That was why he himself never used high-grade divine artifacts, and why he had gifted Soul Severance to Ye Yu so readily. He knew he could not control it. Now he’d shot himself in the foot.
With a heavy sigh, Elder Ge lamented his folly.
Meanwhile, outside Lieyang Gate, Ye Yu met the Medical God and led him to a back-chamber where Xie Buyu lay resting. Her wounds had partially healed, yet she remained unconscious; no pill could rouse her.
Ye Yu recounted the situation to the Medical God and named Shen Mu Rong Bihuai as her assailant. The Medical God nodded gravely. “I heard of the Wuliang Hall incident. Escaping alive from Shen Mu Rong Bihuai is no small feat. Rest assured—since Elder Ge summoned me, I will heal her. One incense-stick interval will suffice.”
Ye Yu watched the Medical God’s calm confidence in a daze. He recalled how that same doctor once fled in terror from the Conflagration Demon, even hiding his name. What ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) a contrast.
Sure enough, in less than a single incense-stick’s time, the Medical God completed the treatment and Xie Buyu slowly awoke. She blinked at him and at Ye Yu, confusion clouding her eyes. “You... saved me?”
Before Ye Yu could reply, the Medical God cut in: “I must make haste—so you two may resume matters of the heart, and I may attend to my next Divine Realm patient. Tell Elder Ge I have to leave—time is precious. Farewell!” With that, his figure vanished like smoke—truly the epitome of an efficient professional.
Xie Buyu, still startled, asked, “Who was that?”
“Your healer,” Ye Yu said. “And the one who rescued you from the Wuliang Hall ruins—Elder Ge. If you feel gratitude, thank him.”
Ye Yu then briefed her on their current situation. As she listened, Xie Buyu lay back, gazing at the ceiling, and exhaled wearily. “Thank you... and please tell Elder Ge that I’m exhausted. I’d like to rest two days before departing.”
Hearing her fatigue, Ye Yu agreed at once. This Divine Alliance Lord truly had suffered much: her master’s son had betrayed and destroyed their sect, and she had borne his legacy for three hundred thousand years—only to have him later steal her Heavenly Devourer Axe and obliterate the alliance she built. Now utterly alone, how could she not be weary?
A short while later, Ye Yu entered an annex where Elder Ge stood facing away, as though polishing something. Curious, Ye Yu asked, “What are you doing?”
Startled, Elder Ge turned sheepishly, forcing a smile. “Oh—nothing. I was, um, touching up your Soul Severance.” He raised a wooden replica of the blade. “Ta-da! Look—restored to its former glory!”
Ye Yu eyed the wooden knife skeptically. “It looks... a bit off.”
