Chapter 195: Got To Pack For The Summit

Honestly, I was half expecting the tower to be set on fire after the three new Guardians joined.

Thankfully, my worries were unfounded and they seemed to be adapting rather well to their new positions.

Surprisingly, Olivia and Valletta didn’t even get into any fights, physical or verbal. In fact, they seemed to be rather cordial in a way.

I saw the two of them sharing a nod in greeting with each other once but neither of them saying a word to each other.

The only disagreement they had was when Valletta wanted to suck on my life essence and Olivia butted in to make several rules like limiting how much the vampire could consume and when she is able to suck from me.

Surprisingly, Valletta accepted all her conditions without argument and I already felt her sucking on my life essence was beneficial to me since it apparently strengthens me when I refill the lost life energy afterwards anyway.

I suppose that was preferable to the two of them fighting constantly...

Dan settled in pretty easily as he took a room and got used to his new duties, fitting in like a glove.

I already found him chatting up Sergei like they were buddies, the former not even looking worried by how the latter looked.

That’s nice.

One problem that sprung up was Liliac who I realised had kept to herself ever since she got here.

She would fulfill her duties perfectly but she would not talk to anyone and would shy away from any conversation with anyone else.

Even if someone were to approach her, she would tug at her hood to hide her face and mutter something before running away.

I thought it was rather cute but the other Guardians don’t seem to be as amused as I was.

Part of the reason was probably because the only person whom she wouldn’t just run off the moment they tried to talk to her was me.

Well... Not that it was really that much better because she was showing that she was clearly uncomfortable even with speaking to me.

Like just the other day where I met her on the way to another meeting, I wanted to greet her and at least exchange some small talk with her.

While she did stop and engage with me, her responses were just nods and shakes of her head and if she spoke, it was just one word answers or stutters.

I felt a little bad after that so I quickly cut the conversation short and let her go on her way.

As for Maylene... I thought she would also be officiated as a Guardian that day too but apparently Olivia wanted the support team to be properly set up first before Maylene gets transferred over under me or something. So I guess we’ll be using that room again soon after all.

Two days before we were supposed to set off for Sydney, I decided to check on all my Guardians to make sure they were alright, seeing that we would be flying off to a foreign country again.

I started with the newcomers except for Dan who had returned to his family to spend some time with them and also to pack his stuff so I went to find Valletta first.

I found her in her room and when I buzzed the door, she unlocked the door remotely which I took as an indication for me to enter.

Stepping inside, which was also the first time I was entering her room, I found that she had done quite a bit of decorating.

It felt like I had entered some kind of gothic sanctum with the dark red curtains, the victorianesque furniture and the feeling of stepping into some ancient place.

The only thing that actually dispelled that feeling was, ironically, the fact that the place was well lit and sunlight streamed through the windows.

I found Valletta standing in front of her bed where a bunch of clothes were scattered on top of the covers with not just one, not just two, but three large sized suitcases arranged in front of her.

I cleared my throat, "Ahem..."

She looked up and a smile materialised on her face, "Master~ It is always nice to see you~"

"I see you are settling in quite well. Though I have to point out the fact that we are only going to Australia for a week or so at most. Does that really require three luggages?"

She wordlessly picked up one of the clothes on the bed, showing me how big it was with its voluminous skirt and frills that would take up a lot of space even when folded.

"Hmm... Understandable. Forget I asked," I admitted.

She gave me an amused smile before folding the dress that she picked up again, "So what brings you here, Master?"

"Just checking if you have settled in well and if there’s any problems. Especially since you only just joined us and now we have to head to another country soon."

"Mmm... I will admit that this is very different compared to my time when I was Queen, but it is definitely a step up from my life in this World ever since I have crossed over."

"I suppose being a Guardian is a step down from being a Queen."

"Oh no. Please do not misunderstand, Master. This is much, much better than being a Queen."

I raised an eyebrow, "How so?"

"A Queen rules the mortals underneath her. Now I serve under a God who is part of the Divine realm. Even another Queen will have to bow to me now."

Err... I guess if she puts it that way... That is certainly true...

As a Guardian of a Mortal God, if they were to visit other countries, those leaders would have to defer to them as well.

She then continued while placing some of her folded clothes into one of the suitcases, "Just in case there might be any misunderstanding... I did not choose to be your Guardian for that reason. At least, not anymore."

"So you were aiming to be a Guardian to lord over others at first?"

"Hmmm~ I won’t deny it. That is correct. But that changed after I met you. After I had a taste of your divinity."

"I suppose I should be honoured?"

"Fufufu~ It is I who is honoured that you would take someone like me under your wing, Master. Now. I suppose you have someone else you need to check on aside from just me? I shall not hold you here, Master."

As expected of her.

I told her to let either Olivia or myself know if there were any problems and left the room.

I went to Liliac’s room, expecting to see her there but found it empty and devoid of its occupant.

That was when Leena appeared from around the corner in her centauress form with a towel hanging around her neck, the centauress having just returned from her usual run.

"Mortal God? Are you looking for that dark elf girl?"

"Ah, that’s right. I don’t suppose you know where she is?"

"I saw her walking outside in the forest, Mortal God. Shall I lead you to her?"

Outside? What’s she doing there? Last I checked, she isn’t scheduled for any patrol duties.

I shook my head, "It’s fine. I’ll find her myself. Thanks."

For some reason, she looked a little disappointed by my answer which confused me a little but I ignored it and created my teleportation door to teleport myself to the location that Leena had told me.

I thought it might take me a while to find the dark elf in question but it wasn’t really that hard to find her.

All I needed to do was to follow the sounds of the plants moving around unnaturally and I found the dark elf in a clearing surrounded by trees.

I thought she might be practicing using her powers or something but I found a rather peculiar sight...

Arranged in front of her and placed on the forest floor were also three luggage bags which she seemed to be in the middle of packing and... She was moving her hands like some kind of conductor and making the plants move around her.

I was wondering what she was doing until I watched one of the trees grow out a rather thick branch before it weaved itself into what looked like a chestplate before it broke off to fall onto the ground.

The chestplate then grew out branches below it to operate like tiny legs and it ’walked’ itself towards one of the luggage bags to settle itself inside it.

I cleared my throat, the sound causing the elf to actually jump up in surprise.

What I didn’t expect was for the trees around to suddenly move and swing their branches at me.

I quickly summoned my floating arm and blocked the blow with it, the branch smacking heavily against it with a loud thud.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I had quick reflexes, I might have been smashed in the face by those branches.

There was a loud shriek coming from the dark elf and I peeked around my hand to see the dark elf in a state of panic.

"Awawawawa... I attacked... I attacked... Umm... Umm... Kyyyuuuunnn..."

She fell backwards onto the floor, fainting into unconsciousness.

Err... Liliac? You ok?
