Chapter 181: The Elf Is Also A Little Broken

I opened my eyes to see a pair of boobs above me.

Ava’s face then came into view from behind the boobs, making me realise that I was laying on her lap.

"My Divine..." Ava muttered, her face full of concern.

"Ava.. What happened?"

She sniffed and I realised she had been crying.

"My Divine... You were suddenly blown away and your soul... Your soul was almost destroyed too..."

What?

I looked around and I realised that we were currently in an empty white space, which was the default look when I first managed to create this space.

I would have thought that this was just a random white space if it wasn’t for the fact that I felt an innate connection with this space.

That means my space was reverted back to its original state...

A very unsettling feeling washed over me and I quickly sat up in a panic.

Focusing on myself, I tried to find the wellspring of life energy that should be present in my core, only to realise that it was almost completely empty.

It seems like when I tried to do what I did, something happened which basically broke apart my core to release all of my life energy.

That would have killed any normal person but I suppose my constitution as a Mortal God managed to keep me alive with just a small amount of life energy remaining. Then I started recovering by passively absorbing the life energy that was in the air.

I suspect the fact that Ava was also here helped me recover faster since she was also my lover and shared her life energy with me before, allowing me to absorb some of her life energy from her through our bond.

"My Divine?" Ava called out, sounding worried. "Is something wrong?"

I turned back to her, "It seems like I have lost quite a bit of my powers..."

She didn’t even seem concerned about that as she stretched out to touch my hand, "Are you... Are you fine?"

"It seems like it..."

"Oh, thank you... Thank you, thank you..." She cried, not even trying to hide the fact that she was crying now as she grabbed onto my hand to place her head over it.

"Ava? What’s wrong?" I asked, feeling a little surprised that she would let herself be seen like this.

She tightened her grip on my hand, "You... You went so still... You felt so lifeless... I thought you were dead..."

"That bad huh?"

"I really thought you died, my Divine... You went so still... All that life drained away... Just like... Just like..."

She trailed off before she was reduced to just sobbing over my hand.

I knelt on a knee and stroked her head to comfort her.

"It’s alright... There, there... I’m right here, Ava..."

She looked up and clung to me, looking unexpectedly desperate for some reason.

"My Divine... My God... My Heart... My Master... Please don’t leave me again... Please... Please, please, please..."

I felt like this was some past trauma of hers, probably something that came from her previous World or something... Or perhaps it was from a future she saw with her future sight.

Seeing her break down like this was quite distressing so I went ahead to pull her into a kiss.

She gasped in surprise and she let out a hiccup before she kissed me back, her hands tightening around me with a desperate grip, as though she was afraid that I would disappear if she let go.

I let her kiss me for as long as she wanted before she had to let go for breath.

She looked up at me with tears still streaming down her face so I leaned in and gave her a kiss on her forehead.

"Feeling better?"

"Hic... Yes... Yes, my Divine..."

I stroked her head, "Do you want to talk about it?"

She blinked back her tears, "My Divine... Shouldn’t you be caring about yourself first? You were the one that almost died..."

"And yet it seems like you are the one that is most affected by this, aren’t you? All that happened to me was that I lost some of my strength, something that I could regain back. You look like you’ve suffered some kind of mental breakdown."

She sniffed and I slowly sat down and pulled her into my lap, making soothing noises as I did so.

This kind of reminded me of how I would comfort my sister when she gets upset when we were younger, even though the person I’m comforting now was almost twice my height and I had to tilt my head upwards to look at her when she was sitting on my lap.

Ava sobbed for a while more before she let out a sigh.

"As you might have known, my Divine... I was... One of the strongest mages back in my World..."

I nodded, not interrupting her and letting her speak.

"I was interested in the secrets of magic... So I devoted all my time to studying and learning about magic and nothing else... Others were having families while all I had was my magic. I did not mind such a thing of course... Since it was something I was interested in... But there was... Someone... Who became interested in me."

I remained silent, still letting Ava continue as the elf cuddled closer to me, her boobs practically shoved up against my face right now.

"I wasn’t interested at first... But they were quite persistent... Persistent in a rather adorable way... So eventually, even though I did not feel romantically interested, I became friends with them..."

"Who were they?" I finally asked.

She turned to me and a sad smile crossed her face, "It’s a rather long story, my Divine... Perhaps... Some other time."

I gestured around us, "I think we have time, don’t we?"

"Shouldn’t we focus on gaining your strength back first, my Divine?"

I raised an eyebrow, "I mean... That would take time to regain, wouldn’t it? It’s not like I can just absorb back the life energy I lost?"

She tilted her head, "Why not, my Divine? The life energy that was lost from you simply scattered around us. You just need to absorb it back again. Since you are in your domain right now, that life energy should still remain within your domain. You just need to pull it back within yourself."

Ah... My actual body is inside the meditation room right now which has the formation to aid me in gathering life energy, which means the life energy that I had lost should still remain inside that formation instead of disappearing!

Sensing my desire to start absorbing Qi again, Ava composed herself and moved off my lap to sit on her knees across from me, allowing me to start absorbing my lost energy once again.

When I focused my senses, it felt like I had been dropped into a vast ocean of life energy and I was stuck in the middle of it.

I sucked in a breath and the ocean started to form a vortex with me in the centre, the energy flowing back into my almost empty core and filling it right back up.

Even while I had my eyes closed, I could sense the space around me shift and the tree started to grow again, the small house started to form, the walls popped out from the ground and even the rock outside popped out from the ground.

The gourd also popped out from one of the branches before the tree was filled with the pink flowers that I had granted it before I lost them and everything returned to how it was before.

I opened my eyes and sure enough, everything changed back to exactly what it was like as if nothing had changed.

Focusing on my core, it was also now filled with life energy. In fact... It felt a little... Denser than before?

It’s like my body had already learned and adapted to the life energy I had absorbed earlier and made it more efficient to absorb them a second time after being drained?

Hmm... Maybe this was another way for me to get stronger?

Like... I have to drain out all my life energy to ’cleanse’ myself before I fill it back up again? Like doing some kind of reformatting or something?

I might need to try this again, though perhaps in a less violent manner than how it happened to me before.

Anyway... Seeing that everything had returned back to normal...

I turned to Ava who had a face of relief when she found that I had returned back to normal.

I smiled at her, "What did I tell you? Nothing to worry about, right?"

She clasped her hands together, "Yes... Yes, my Divine."

"Now... Maybe you want to tell me about that story now?"

She sighed, "Are you sure you want to know, my Divine?"

"If it would help me understand you better... Please do."

"Very well... As I said, I was obsessed with magic..."
