Chapter 279: Chapter 170: Ritual Turmoil (3)
As one Dragon Slayer was sent flying by a leathery wing, another would take their place. The onlooking guests cheered and screamed in time with every perilous clash between the Flying Dragon and the Dragon Slayers.
The Priest frowned. It was the first time he had seen the Cyan Flying Dragon struggle so violently, as if it had seen some kind of Natural Enemy.
His gaze followed the direction of the Cyan Flying Dragon’s roar. Behind the crowd of Trial Takers, across from the Fan Area, he saw Silver Lion Wilder sitting in a rare pocket of tranquility, quietly reading a book.
’Is it Silver Lion Wilder’s intimidating presence? The status of a Silver Lion is already on par with a Third Generation Species, so it’s only natural the Cyan Flying Dragon wouldn’t dare to face him.’
The thought had barely crossed his mind when the Priest had the assisting Dragon Slayers drive iron spikes into the six corners of the altar. Then, they used specially-made iron chains to completely pin the Cyan Flying Dragon to the center of the altar.
The Priest then took the sword handed to him by an Attendant. It was the legendary Giant’s Sword, said to have been obtained by Beowulf from Glendal Treasure Mountain. Its hilt was cast from Gold, inlaid with jewels, and adorned with serpentine patterns. Legend had it that when Beowulf used this sword to slay the Demon known as the Sea Demon King, the blade dissolved upon contact with the Demon’s blood, leaving only the Gold hilt. The current blade had been forged by descendants of the Beowulf Family.
Facing the Cyan Flying Dragon, the Priest raised the Giant’s Sword high, and his mouth once again began to drone on in some unintelligible tongue.
Here it comes. Everyone in the crowd tensed, except for Baron. His heart suddenly began to pound, not for the Cyan Flying Dragon on the altar about to be sacrificed, but for the Dracul Mountain Range... An incredibly deep and powerful draconic presence had just erupted from within the mountains!
And at that very moment, the Priest swung the Longsword in his hand down toward the Flying Dragon’s head.
"BOOM!"
A thunderous roar suddenly erupted from the mountains. It carried an overwhelmingly tyrannical presence that descended from the heavens, stunning everyone present. All except for a few at the Bronze Tier had their minds go completely blank.
Even the Priest, who was raising the Giant’s Sword high, fell into a daze.
"Watch out!" someone among the Trial Takers shouted toward the stage.
"ROAR!"
Another hoarse roar echoed out, but this one came from the altar, not the mountains.
On the altar, the restraints shattered, and the iron spikes driven deep into the ground were ripped out.
The Cyan Flying Dragon broke free of its shackles, violently spread its tattered wings, and its claws dug into the altar, sinking deep into the stone.
It let out an enraged roar at the dumbfounded Priest, baring its teeth furiously. Its long tail, as thick as a steel pipe, lashed against the altar, carving deep marks into the stone before suddenly whipping out and striking the Priest.
With a loud BANG, the Priest was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing violently into the ground.
"Dominance Resonance... There’s a sub-species in the mountains!"
The Priest hadn’t passed out yet. He spat out a mouthful of blood and, with surprising professionalism, yelled his warning.
Heeding the warning, he had instinctively raised the Giant’s Sword to block. While the sword stopped a blow powerful enough to slice a Law Enforcer in half, he had still suffered severe internal injuries.
And so, after shouting this, he passed out.
’A sub-species in the mountains?’
The thought had barely formed in the minds of Baron and most others present when the Cyan Flying Dragon let out a roar and charged in a single direction with unimaginable speed.
The Lidton Family Head, one of the Old Race, frantically yelled, "Stop it! Quickly!"
The Trial Takers came to their senses and took up defensive stances.
The Silver Faction lit up their Alchemy Circuits, the Beast Faction initiated Beastification, Wizards revealed their Magic Cards, and the Contract Knights used Promise—no, wait, there were too many people, Promise was too difficult to use... The Contract Knights puffed out their chests!
But while the Cyan Flying Dragon had entered some sort of berserk state, it hadn’t lost its wits. In the face of the Law Enforcers’ defense, it whipped its long tail, using the attached chains and spikes to sweep through a large area. It then spat out a massive burst of Dragon Flame, forcing back the advancing Dragon Slayers and Dragon Guides.
Just then, a flash of sword energy, swung by the distant Wilder, grazed the beast and severed its tail. The Dragon turned, its target clear, and charged toward a certain spot in the crowd.
Lidton followed its path with his eyes, his pupils contracting violently.
It was none other than the trembling Windsor of the Constantine Family and her stunned Dragon Guide.
No, Isabella and Master Jack (Baron) were there too!
