Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Retaliation
Reid was the one retaliating. He displayed the basic qualities of an excellent soldier, with pinpoint shooting accuracy from ten meters away, achieving a hundred percent hit rate, each shot hitting the guards’ foreheads. In less than thirty seconds, these black steel team members had become nothing more than lifeless corpses.
Reid put away his gun and stepped forward to check their bodies to ensure there were no survivors.
"May their souls rest in peace," Abigail sighed softly.
"Once they take action... they’re really ruthless." Honglian, watching from the shadows, was greatly shocked. "Aren’t these agency mercenaries?"
Although the two sides were not directed by the same system, they could still be considered part of the same group... Yet, when they found they were out of control, Abigail’s side unhesitatingly treated them as enemies, without considering whether there was a chance to wake them up.
This was undoubtedly a significant shock to Honglian from the Jiang City branch.
"They claim the Evangelical Association is ability-user supremacists, but it seems the agency doesn’t take ordinary people seriously either," Chen Xuan remarked. "But it’s a bit strange..."
"What’s strange?" Honglian asked nervously.
"The number of light points hasn’t changed."
Under the Heart Method’s scan, the number of light points was still as many as thirty or forty, showing no significant change from before.
She also knew that Chen Xuan had the ability to see through walls, so she was taken aback, "You mean these people aren’t actually dead? I need to warn Abigail!"
"Not quite," Chen Xuan stopped her, "The positions of the light points have changed as if they have separated from these people..."
This scene seemed familiar.
But he couldn’t immediately make a judgment.
Seeing Abigail and Reid had already entered the next room, he could only signal Honglian to follow and continue to observe for a while.
The room next door was undoubtedly much more lively.
As soon as Abigail crossed the blast door, she saw four young people with their hands in their pockets standing opposite, looking at her from a distance. At their feet were ten or so people curled up, including guards in bulletproof vests and night shift workers in reflective clothing. These survivors looked terrified, their faces pale, pleading with their captors for mercy.
"Look who’s here?" Someone whistled.
"You must be the lackey sent by the agency headquarters, right?" Another young man snorted coldly, "Your nose is pretty good; I didn’t expect you to catch up so quickly."
"The agency people are here?" The survivors’ faces lit up and they all looked towards Abigail. They seemed to want to shout for help but didn’t dare to do so near their captors’ feet.
"So, you are the ability-users from the Evangelical Association," Abigail looked at the four one by one. "There are only four of you here; weren’t there six of you?"
"Old witch, the other two have sacrificed. Are you satisfied with this answer?" The silver-haired man with a demon mask squinted his eyes, "They were shot through the chest by bullets, and it was your research’s intelligent killing machines that killed them!"
"Old witch? That’s outrageous! She’s only a few years older than me!" Honglian couldn’t help but mutter, "And what’s with these people? They’re so young yet treat killing and being killed so lightly..."
Being young was indeed a common trait of these four.
Three boys and one girl, all looking around fourteen or fifteen years old, each with different hair colors—pink, dark purple, whatever stood out the most. Their faces and hands were covered with large tattoos, and they wore plenty of metal rings and pendants.
No matter where you put this image in the world, it screamed trouble, and nobody but their own kind would give them a second glance.
But now, they had abilities.
Chen Xuan could imagine the journey of their minds: lack of family education, a craving for attention, influenced by the supremacy of ability-users, treating the Evangelical Association as their new home and willing to give their all for it.
They neither valued others’ lives nor worried about their own.
Such ability-users are the most terrifying.
Abigail didn’t get angry at their disrespectful address, "It’s not too late to stop now. Surrender to the agency immediately, hand over Rodiya, and return these warehouse workers. That way, I can ensure you have a chance to stand trial. Although you would spend most of the rest of your lives in prison, that’s better than dying here."
"Wow, I’m so scared, please spare my life so I can repay you like a dog!" The female Evangelical teased.
Abigail frowned slightly, "Jill Andia."
"Don’t call me that name!" She exploded with rage, cutting in fiercely, "Jill is dead, I’m Feixing, a fighter for the new world!"
"Well said," the silver-haired man approved. "We’ve abandoned everything from our past. These names are only used for customs purposes. I’m called Yin Ya, and today we’ll deal with these lackeys of the agency."
Another Asian man with fluorescent green hair pulled out a samurai sword from his back and swung it elegantly, "Samurai, at your service—"
Before he finished speaking, Reid had already fired three shots at him!
The latter hurriedly blocked, and sparks flew off the blade.
"You bastard, you ambushed us!"
"Sorry, triggered memory inheritance," Reid shrugged, "My grandpa killed a dozen enemies on Iwo Jima, and he said you guys love to wave knives and shout gibberish—only shooting makes you shut up."
This thoroughly infuriated them.
Feixing vanished from her original spot, and the next second, she appeared behind Abigail and Reid. She had a dagger poised to strike at their hearts.
Meanwhile, numerous crows emerged from Yin Ya’s clothes—these crows, like shadowy entities, first flew to the ceiling before swooping down from above, their target, of course, being Abigail.
The self-proclaimed Samurai, with green hair, zigzagged in a Z-shaped route. If it were regular police or military facing such agile body movements, they would indeed find aiming challenging. His chosen attack direction was the left side, with his sword-wielding hand radiating green light.
Their coordination was evidently skillful.
In the blink of an eye, they surrounded Abigail and Reid from three directions: front, back, and left.
But human attention is limited.
Dealing with attacks from multiple directions simultaneously, even an ability-user with a strategy might find it hard to attend to every move.
Honglian’s heart was in her throat.
Yet Chen Xuan remained calm and composed.
He immediately identified Feixing as having superspeed-type abilities, relying on swift, uncatchable movements; Yin Ya served as the distraction, with each shadow crow capable of inflicting damage, winning through sheer numbers; the Samurai’s sword likely had some extraordinary effect, and he himself was extremely agile, fit for close-quarters combat.
Very complete, but not Abigail’s match.
Ultimately, the gap in abilities was too vast.
When Feixing’s dagger touched Abigail, it transformed into a bouquet of flowers—real this time, and as the petals shattered, Feixing’s face displayed uncontrollable shock.
The flock of crows vanished upon entering the barrier, like shadows flying into sunlight, unable even to get close, let alone harm the two.
The Samurai’s sword fared no better, bursting like tempered glass halfway through its swing, while his shoes melted into a mass of sticky asphalt.
This eerie transformation completely exceeded the three’s expectations.
It wasn’t a head-on clash but an attack where they risked everything, betting their lives, only to feel like they were hitting cotton.
Reid took the opportunity to seize Feixing and the Samurai’s arms, tossing them toward Yin Ya.
The latter had to pause to avoid his owls from damaging his team.
Reid also fired his gun at that moment.
The trio, colliding into a heap, immediately scrambled to evade, but this time, they didn’t succeed—the bullets curved mid-air as if seeing, hitting them squarely in their shoulders. The flesh on their shoulders burst open instantly, forming a blood cavity the size of a fist!
