Chapter 364: Chapter 364: "Young Man, Accept Your Fate
The fate of the other two wasn’t much different. Facing the surprise attack from Xu Xuanling and Liuli, they had no ability to fight back, and were knocked down in one or two moves. Surviving was purely because Chen Xuan said he wanted to capture them alive.
In less than a few seconds, there wasn’t a single Evangelical left standing on site. The floor was strewn with the naked bodies of men and women, and the three suspected Ability Users had all been knocked out.
The only one who hadn’t acted, Honglian, stood by the door and watched in awe. This fluid battle was practically like a work of art with Xu Xuanling initiating large-scale crowd control, first eliminating the ordinary people lacking battle power, exposing the core members of the enemy instantly, and then solving them one-on-one, which prevented unnecessary casualties and minimized the exposure time of their own personnel.
No wonder she’s a special Wanderer who can stand against the Arbitration Court head-on.
Next, she simply needed to find a large box or wardrobe-type container, put the Evangelicals inside, and then deliver the box back to the Fire Band camp.
Such a container was available right there on site.
Honglian immediately spotted the storage cabinet in the corner of the hall—it used to store documents, but now it’s piled with various living supplies, from clothes to flashlights, likely loot that the Evangelicals had scavenged. After throwing these things out, each cabinet could basically fit one person.
Chen Xuan took out the rope and handcuffs he had prepared in advance and tied up the enemies tightly.
During this, he scanned the three individuals one by one and found that they indeed had abilities. Considering that the Evangelical Association valued Ability Users more, the intelligence these three knew must certainly be more than ordinary people, making them the best choice for interrogation upon returning.
"What you didn’t let me see just a moment ago was this, eh?" Liuli lifted her wide-brimmed hat and said indifferently, "What’s there to hide? They’re just seeking the most base human pleasures."
"But, but it shouldn’t be with so many people, right? How would that be different from monkeys?" Xu Xuanling still couldn’t accept this behavior.
"Whether there’s a difference or not doesn’t matter to them," she said blandly, "Being able to live one more day, enjoy one more day of pleasure, that is enough to satisfy them."
"...It’s not that it doesn’t matter, it’s that pondering this question is meaningless," someone suddenly said softly.
Everyone turned to look at the source of the voice—it was the older man.
A large, bluish lump was swelling on his forehead, its center seeping blood, clearly indicating that Chen Xuan hadn’t held back. It wouldn’t be surprising if an ordinary person slept soundly for a whole day after such a hit; managing to regain consciousness in just a few minutes was a testament to his resilience.
"Young man, you’ve got quite a strong hand, huh." The man shook his head, seemingly trying to shake off the dizziness, "Which base are you from? Dare to attack us...do you have a death wish?"
"You can’t even move, so don’t dream of turning the tables." Chen Xuan naturally didn’t pay any mind to his words for a simple reason: he understood this man’s abilities clearly, and from the description, the other person had no trump card to turn the tide. "Bluffing won’t work on me, cooperate with us now, and I might spare your life."
"My name is Ma Kang," unexpectedly the man disclosed his name voluntarily, "And you guys?"
Seeing no answers, Ma Kang sighed, "Ah, I wanted to help you out of goodwill, but you refused to appreciate it."
"Help us?" Chen Xuan raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, it’s already too late for you to run now; the only chance of survival is to join us, become a devout Evangelical." He replied earnestly, "Listen...the footsteps of the Master of Thunder, they are already approaching."
Yet, no unusual sounds were heard by anyone.
Just as Zhuang Yu and Lin Qing said, these people are indeed insane...Chen Xuan thought.
"Oh?" Suddenly, Honglian let out a soft exclamation while clearing away the odds and ends.
"What’s wrong?" He turned to look and saw a card clutched in her hand. Despite being seven or eight meters away, he could discern the likeness of the person on the card, which bore some resemblance to the Ability User tied up in front of them, except the electronic photo looked slightly younger, probably in his early forties.
At the moment, Ma Kang appeared to be in his fifties, his long hair a mix of black and white neatly tied at the top with a wooden hairpin, somewhat resembling a reclusive hermit.
And the person on the ID card looked much more fierce and ruthless, a hostile glint in the eyes suggested he wasn’t one to be messed with.
But what surprised Honglian wasn’t the drastic change in demeanor, but the person’s identity—
"It says on the card that he’s a Mechanical Officer..."
This caught Chen Xuan by surprise, "You used to be part of the Dimensional Limit Mechanism?"
"That was a very long time ago," Ma Kang did not deny, "I kept it just as a souvenir. You best stop worrying about these trivial things. Now, with the most devout thoughts, pray to the Master of Thunder, envision yourselves as a part of its sustenance! Otherwise, it’ll be too late—"
Before he finished speaking, the floor suddenly surged upwards and then shattered! Amidst the flying debris of reinforced concrete, a steel machine emerged from beneath the floor!
At the moment it appeared, the lights in the hall flickered in synchrony with the machine’s indicator lights, as if welcoming its arrival.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
If not for the Divine Eye Technique, Chen Xuan likely wouldn’t have realized what changes occurred within the hall.
Without any forewarning, the Array became ineffective, and Celestial Mist Skill didn’t sense it in advance—all these circumstances indicated that what came was a nano-living body.
Those lying at its emergence point were instantly turned into a mist of blood.
Other slumbering Evangelicals weren’t unscathed either, as the scattered rubble had impact comparable to bullets, piercing bodies even after bouncing twice. Many perished directly from the debris, while those who were gravely injured but not deceased awoke, letting out heart-wrenching screams.
Chen Xuan swiftly summoned the Thousand Thoughts Sword, held it in front of him, protecting both himself and Ma Kang.
At that instant, he saw the full appearance of the nano-living body.
It had an iron-shell resembling a cage, with coils wrapped inside; eight ceramic insulators stood atop like a child’s braids. A dozen cables extended from the insulators, twisting and crawling like tentacles, dragging its heavy body as it moved.
Master of Thunder? This thing was clearly a giant transformer!
After breaking through the floor, it hovered mid-air with sparks emanating from the coils. Simultaneously, the room’s lighting dimmed as if all energy was being drained away.
Chen Xuan grabbed Ma Kang and dashed straight for the doorway.
With a "hum," the vivid electric light bloomed from behind, illuminating the hall as bright as day! Chen Xuan could only feel a tingling on his scalp, his body involuntarily shook. Luckily, with the Thousand Thoughts Sword propelling, he managed to outrun the lightning, catching up with Honglian who also had flashed out.
As for Liuli and Xu Xuanling, he believed the two would have their own ways to handle it.
After the lightning came the deafening sound of explosion, the whole building trembling, the scorching air spraying out like waves, grey dust overwhelming amidst the clear scent of roasted flesh.
Evidently, the Evangelicals who hadn’t managed to leave the hall promptly became victims to the nano-living body’s rampage.
Yet, to Chen Xuan’s surprise and amusement, Ma Kang resumed praying with closed eyes.
He raised his hand and slapped the man’s cheek, "Do you think it can understand your loyalty? If not for me dragging you out, you’d already be dead inside."
Ma Kang glared at Chen Xuan angrily, but his anger seemed directed not at the slap, but at the interruption of his prayer, "Of course it understands, otherwise how did we survive until now? You’re the one disrupting this situation; you’re the culprit causing their deaths."
Is this what an Evangelical’s like? Chen Xuan couldn’t help but find the whole notion absurd.
"But dying at the hands of the Master of Thunder isn’t bad either, for it’s the better end...they’ll find their own paradise, you don’t need to feel sorry for them." Unexpectedly, Ma Kang started to comfort him, "Young man, let’s accept our fate together."
