Chapter 81: Chapter 72: A Pure Person
Master Xuan Zhen was slightly taken aback by his words, then stroked his chin and laughed heartily. "You have a point, you have a point. Geniuses are always so humble."
Then, with an envious look, he stared at Xu Ran and said, "Elder Xu, you’ve really taken on a fine disciple."
As soon as he said this, the other Elders present all chimed in with a sigh. "Indeed, indeed! A disciple who’s not only a genius but also respects her master and honors her path... If only she were my disciple."
"Fellow Daoist Ning is truly outstanding. Although she’s limited by her Cultivation Realm and her understanding of certain special runes, meaning she can only set up Tier Three Arrays for now, once her Cultivation improves, it won’t be long before she surpasses us all."
As the Elders sighed in admiration, Little Xiyue stood to the side, her head slightly bowed. Being praised by so many people in front of her master gave her a strange, wonderful feeling.
Hearing his disciple receive so much praise, Xu Ran was inwardly blooming with joy. On the outside, however, he maintained a perfectly calm expression and said humbly,
"Seniors, you praise her too highly. My unruly disciple still has many shortcomings. In the future, I must ask you all to look after her."
Hearing this, Master Xuan Zhen pointed a finger at him and shook his head. "You, sir, are not being honest. It’s too disingenuous. I don’t like it."
Xu Ran’s expression stiffened. ’Hmph. People this pure tend to be rather blunt.’
Seeing his reaction, Master Xuan Zhen chuckled and said, "Outstanding is outstanding. What’s there to be so modest about?"
The others chimed in, "Exactly! If it were our Sect Leader who had taken on an excellent disciple like Fellow Daoist Ning, the entire cultivation world would probably know by the next day."
At the mention of the Sect Leader’s name, the other Elders’ faces filled with reminiscent sighs.
"The story goes that the Sect Leader had a breakthrough in his Cultivation and was preparing to enter seclusion. But then he happened to meet the Moon True Inheritance and took her as his disciple. Afterward, the old man stubbornly put off his seclusion for a full three years, during which he traveled to nearly every famous Major Sect in the Eastern Domain."
Wistful expressions appeared on their faces. Back then, was there a single Elder in the Profound Pure Sect who wasn’t pestered by the Sect Leader? He’d show up all day, every day, just to brag about the wonderful disciple he had found.
"The Sect Leader... would do something so... childish?" Little Xiyue, who had never heard this story, asked in utter shock. She had seen the Sect Leader’s portrait—he was an old Daoist master who looked like an immortal, with a transcendent air about him. He didn’t seem like the type of person who would do something so immature.
Master Xuan Zhen chuckled at Little Xiyue’s words. "Fellow Daoist Ning, that’s where you don’t understand. Let me ask you this: do you feel you’ve changed much compared to when you were a child?"
"Well..." Little Xiyue was taken aback for a moment and fell into deep thought.
Seeing this, Master Xuan Zhen smiled. "See? Whether a person is mature or not is just a feeling other people get based on your age and appearance. Only you know how childish you truly are on the inside."
"Some people look mature and dependable, but behind closed doors, they might be even more childish than a toddler. You just haven’t seen that side of them."
"And our Sect Leader, word is he’s loved to show off and brag since he was a boy. There’s nothing strange about it."
Little Xiyue’s eyes widened, feeling as if her entire worldview was shattering.
Standing to the side, Xu Ran nodded in profound agreement. ’It’s true. Whether a person is childish has nothing to do with age—only you yourself know. People who get older just look the part. In private, their behavior might really be just like a small child’s.’
