Chapter 619: Chapter 618: Reunion (14)

"Welcome back to the country, Bella!" Sandra Woods also raised her glass.

Julian Jennings raised his glass too, but it was a cup of tea.

He really sticks to his principle of not drinking alcohol.

"Thank you." Bella Acker raised her glass and smiled in thanks.

The three of them downed their drinks in one go, even the one with the tea.

"Bella, I heard from Senior Quinn that you attended film school abroad and got a scholarship every year?" Sandra asked.

"Not every year. The first year was tough because of the language barrier, but things got better later on," Bella smiled.

"How did you get through classes when the language was a barrier?" Sandra knew Bella’s English wasn’t great before, making even basic communication challenging.

"At first, attending class felt like listening to a foreign language. I could only borrow notes from classmates to copy after class and then hit the library with a dictionary to translate word by word."

Bella spoke of these experiences with a light-hearted tone.

But it’s easy to imagine how hard it must’ve been to translate word by word and then string them together to understand and memorize.

Sandra raised her glass to her, "Well done! You are indeed my friend!"

"I have to make sure I don’t embarrass my friend," Bella also raised her glass. The two clinked their glasses and exchanged smiles, needing no words.

Archer Quinn smiled and said, "Shouldn’t I be included in moments like this?"

"We were just talking, Senior, there’s no need for you to join in," Sandra teased him, "Unless, Senior Quinn, you really became the ’girlfriend’ like the people online joke?"

"Is that true?" Bella joked along, "Congrats, Senior Quinn, for joining our girls’ group!"

Archer sighed, "You two really gang up on me. Julian, since those two are a team, we should be one too."

"I’m siding with Shannon," Julian declined Archer’s offer unkindly.

"Senior Quinn, did you hear that? It’s three against one."

"I have chosen my friends poorly, chosen poorly indeed."

Everyone laughed.

Even though they hadn’t seen each other for a long time, there was no gap between them, making it feel like they had just met yesterday.

The three of them finished a bottle of red wine and still felt unsatisfied, so they opened another.

Sandra commented, "Bella, your alcohol tolerance has really improved."

"You think I’ve been practicing for nothing over these years?" Bella replied, "Ms. Young was right, once you enter this field, social gatherings inevitably involve drinking, and you have to increase your tolerance."

"How did you practice?"

"Drinking twice a day, slightly increasing the amount each time. At first, I’d throw up, but gradually, I didn’t."

Listening, Sandra was speechless, and after a moment, said, "Bella, I should award you a ’Die-hard Champion’ trophy. Why do you work so hard for everything?"

"Because I’m not smart," Bella smiled, "The early bird gets the worm."

She had so much to learn, lacking a naturally smart head, that she needed to spend more time exploring.

Sandra felt heartache listening, let alone Archer.

Archer’s eyes gleamed and he smiled, "All the hard work will pay off. Here’s to our Die-hard Bella."

"Yes, to our Die-hard Bella!"

The three raised their glasses together, blending all the past pain, worries, and yearning into this cup of wine, consuming it all in one swallow.
