Chapter 967: Chapter 422: Mogiana’s Dinner

Spring, Count Glamorgan’s domain, Lake Fairy Tower.

In the corridor of the tower, Laine, dressed in count’s attire, followed behind Mogiana, reporting a series of incidents that occurred in Boldro.

Mogiana, wearing a long silk gown scented with vanilla and rose, crowned with flowers, her bare feet floating in the air, listened attentively to Laine’s report, the Lake Witch furrowing her brows: "So, you believe the infiltrator is Mathew Bade, and he was brought in by Duke of Borelion’s granddaughter, Fiona?"

"Is there any other explanation?" Laine spread his hands, speaking helplessly: "Unfortunately, there’s no evidence."

Laine detailed the series of events to Mogiana from before the banquet began until its rushed conclusion. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

After the banquet ended, by cross-referencing the guest list and questioning the guards, Fiona from Borelion was immediately listed as one of the suspects, firstly, her partner Dominic mysteriously disappeared, this knight from Borelion Duchy was last seen appearing by the corner tower, precisely where the infiltrator escaped the castle.

Guards also confirmed that Fiona and Dominic rudely rejected the guards’ search when they were together, resulting in this noblewoman being placed under house arrest, awaiting further judgment.

However, the following search produced unexpected results; Dominic’s actual corpse was found in the castle’s garden, he was killed on the day of the banquet; evidently, the uninvited guest disguised as Dominic to infiltrate the castle, Fiona claimed she was a victim too, asserting she was completely unaware Dominic had been killed.

Laine knew there was something fishy about this, without a doubt Fiona brought Mathew Bade into the castle, but due to evidence being favorable to Fiona and her firm claim of ignorance, the privileged Fiona was subsequently released, the young lady left Boldro cursing, returning to Borelion.

Many at the banquet sensed the truth, yet without concrete evidence, the public was still unable to judge a member from the original twelve Holy Grail Knight family, they could only temporarily release her, leaving the case for the King and Lake Witch to report.

Only the King and Lake Witch have the authority to deal with Fiona.

For Laine, this matter was not over; he happened to seek Mogiana’s counsel on how to administer punishment and leverage Fiona and Mathew Bade’s relationship since it was only during his date with Surya he accidentally discovered the connection between Mathew Bade and Fiona.

He had previously informed Mogiana of this matter, thus he now sought Mogiana.

Mogiana was initially pleased to see Laine visiting outside of the "one day a week" appointment, the Lake Witch immediately suggested they could cook some dishes together tonight; however, upon learning Laine was there to report, her demeanor turned considerably sour.

Subsequently, after Laine promised to leave after dinner, Mogiana’s expression visibly shifted from anger to joy, beginning to attentively listen to Laine’s report.

Her Highness the Lake Witch’s moods were indeed capricious, Laine thought inwardly.

"I’m aware of Fiona’s case too." Mogiana walked beside Laine, pondering the cause and effect, feeling the issue was complex: "Laine, this is not Kulona; in Kulona, I can privately have the Holy Grail Knights seize Fiona for questioning, but not now, Fiona has returned to Borelion Duchy; she is naturally protected by Kingdom law, Lady’s Oracle, without substantial crimes and concrete evidence, the original twelve Holy Grail Knight family cannot be accused nor punished privately; I wasn’t present at that time, your actions were correct."

"That’s why that woman dared to directly provoke me and had the audacity to bring Mathew Bade to the banquet, merely relying on her ancestral privilege." Laine nodded helplessly: "Naturally, the vampires were thoroughly prepared; we had no concrete evidence to prove Fiona’s connection with vampires; indeed, if it wasn’t during the windmill incident overhearing their conversation, I wouldn’t have linked so much."

Some matters are always daunting, like Laine’s experience, Brittania strictly demands punishment for knights, especially the original twelve Holy Grail Knight families; without irrefutable evidence judged by the King or Lake Witch, no one has the right to detain, arrest, or interrogate these noble members.

The twelve original Holy Grail Knight families, without treason or blasphemy charges, are not subject to accusation or conviction.

With Laine’s relationship with the Lake Fairy, if Laine forcibly accused Fiona of treason and blasphemy, he might barely succeed, but if he did, he would be unworthy of being a Holy Grail Knight, as that would make him no different from Fiona, who acts recklessly depending on her family background.

Just like in his previous life, he saw many people loathed certain privileged folks, loudly cursing them while secretly envying them; when they climbed high, instead of abolishing such privileges, they acted even more outrageously, that’s the irony.

Human beings always repeat the same tragedies; they always become what they once despised, and these people would self-righteously exclaim: "Why can’t I do what the monk does?"

This is something Laine would never do.
