Chapter 135: Chapter 135

Last night, Lily had insisted on sleeping with Elise. Fearing that the little girl would disturb her rest, Alexander had intended to coax her out of it, but Elise said it was fine. In the end, Lily got her way and slept with her.

Early the next morning, Alexander woke up and headed downstairs to check on them, finding both Elise and Lily still fast asleep. He went to a nearby market to buy fresh ingredients, borrowed the guesthouse kitchen, and started cooking.

At 8:30, Josh was woken up by his alarm. After washing up and coming downstairs, he found Alexander already busy in the kitchen. Josh rolled up his sleeves, tied on an apron, and jumped in to help his cousin. Both men knew exactly what the other was thinking, and neither was willing to back down.

When Mrs. Shaw came downstairs and saw the two handsome men bustling around the kitchen, she found the sight utterly surreal. Walking over to the front desk, she asked her employee, "What’s the situation here?"

The employee shrugged. "Maybe they just really love to cook?"

"Oh?" Mrs. Shaw raised an eyebrow. "That’s a rarity these days. I wonder who the lucky girl is going to be."

By nearly nine o’clock, Alexander and Josh finally finished preparing breakfast. Not knowing what Elise preferred, the men had made everything they knew how to prepare.

The spread included fresh soy milk, millet porridge, shrimp dumplings, boiled eggs, and a few light, home-style stir-fries, along with the sugar and cinnamon French toast and banana pancakes Alexander had bought earlier.

When everything was laid out on the table, Mrs. Shaw and her staff were completely stunned.

"Is being the perfect husband a genetic trait in your family?" Mrs. Shaw walked over, looking at the feast before turning her gaze to the brothers. "This spread is enough to make someone like me, who is completely disillusioned with romance, swoon. Do you two have girlfriends? If not, how about one of you dates me?"

Alexander and Josh exchanged awkward looks.

The staff watched from the side, knowing their boss was just joking, but while the two handsome men were great cooks, they were rather thin-skinned. Both of their ears flushed bright red.

Seeing their reaction, Mrs. Shaw waved her hand and laughed. "Just kidding! Don’t be nervous. This is a guesthouse, not a spider demon’s den—I don’t eat men!"

Her staff burst into laughter, and Alexander and Josh couldn’t help but smile helplessly.

"Mrs. Shaw, you are very witty. No wonder your guesthouse always tops the rankings," Alexander offered politely before adding, "I’ll go upstairs and see if Ms. Harper and Lily are awake."

"I’ll go," Mrs. Shaw smiled. "It’s more convenient since I’m a woman."

Alexander blinked in mild surprise, then quickly nodded. "Then I’ll trouble you, Mrs. Shaw."

"Don’t mention it. Go ahead and start eating," she said, waving her hand as she turned toward the second floor.

A single breakfast was enough for Mrs. Shaw to see right through the brothers’ intentions. She wasn’t usually one to meddle, but Rina had specifically called to ask her to look after Elise. With all the drama currently blowing up online and Elise and Dylan not yet officially divorced, the brothers’ advances at this delicate juncture would likely only cause Elise more anxiety.

So, she would just have to play the villain and ruin their fun!

Five minutes later, Mrs. Shaw came back down.

"They’re awake. They’ll be down to eat once they’ve washed up, and they told us to go ahead without them."

Alexander and Josh acknowledged this, and Alexander gestured to the table. "Let’s all sit down then."

As everyone gathered around the table, the wind chimes on the wooden courtyard gate jingled. Someone had arrived.

"Keep eating, I’ll go check," Mrs. Shaw said, patting the shoulder of an employee who was about to stand up, and headed outside.

Soon, her voice drifted in from the courtyard. "Sir, I’m terribly sorry, but our guesthouse is fully booked this week. If you’re looking for lodging, you might want to try next door."

In the courtyard stood Dylan, tall and slender in a white top and black trousers. He held Robin’s hand, his sharp, handsome face wearing a detached expression.

Hearing Mrs. Shaw’s words, his voice was deep and steady. "I am Elise Harper’s husband. My surname is Bennett."

"Oh, so you’re the husband who’s currently going through a divorce with Elise!" Mrs. Shaw blurted out.

Dylan frowned.

Mrs. Shaw was momentarily stunned, but she quickly processed the information. Having spent time in North City’s corporate world, she had certainly heard of someone as prominent as Dylan Bennett.

Yet, before today, neither Elise nor Rina had ever mentioned that the soon-to-be ex-husband was him. Mrs. Shaw had only guessed from Elise’s elegant demeanor that her in-laws must be influential, but she had never expected it to be Dylan himself.

This was a man at the absolute pinnacle of the city’s elite—the dream husband of countless women. Who in their right mind would willingly divorce someone like him?

Yet, Elise was not only willing, she had even filed for divorce while pregnant. For a woman to insist on a divorce despite his status and her pregnancy meant there had to be a massive issue between them.

Mrs. Shaw had no doubts about Elise’s character, so the problem must lie with Dylan. Could he... have cheated on her during the marriage?

As her mind raced, Mrs. Shaw suddenly remembered Alexander and Josh inside the house, and a headache began to brew. Three men in one place was a recipe for drama; it would be best if they didn’t meet. But then she realized that if Dylan could track her down here, he must know exactly what Elise was up to.

While she was still agonizing over what to do, Dylan spoke again. "Mrs. Shaw, you don’t need to worry about lodging. We’re staying next door. I’m only here to see my wife."

Mrs. Shaw couldn’t argue with that. They were legally married, so how could she stop a husband from seeing his wife?

She could only offer a strained smile. "I see. I’m glad you have a place to stay, Mr. Bennett. As for Elise, she hasn’t come downstairs yet. How about I go up and let her know?"

"No need. I’ll just go up and find her."

Mrs. Shaw: "..." What do you mean, no need? She probably doesn’t even want to see your face!

While she was worrying, Robin, who was standing beside Dylan, suddenly asked, "Daddy, are Godmom and Lily really staying here?"

Hearing the child’s voice, Mrs. Shaw instinctively looked down at Robin. Her eyes widened in shock. The boy looked exactly like a mini-Dylan! And he called him "Daddy"...

Was this Dylan and Elise’s child? But then why did he call her "Godmom"?

Before she could solve the puzzle, a crisp, sweet little voice rang out from behind her. "Robin!"

Robin looked toward the entrance of the guesthouse. Lily let go of Elise’s hand and bolted toward him on her little legs.

Robin’s eyes lit up. "Lily!"

Having not seen each other for a long time, the two children ran toward one another and shared a happy hug.

"Robin, how did you know Godmom and I were here?"

"Daddy said you were here!" Robin and Lily hugged each other tightly.

The scene was incredibly sweet and heartwarming, softening the expressions of the watching adults.

Releasing Lily, Robin asked eagerly, "Lily, where’s Godmom?"

"Godmom is right over there!" Lily turned around, pointing a chubby finger at Elise, who was standing by the door. She added in a sweet, babyish voice, "Robin, I slept with Godmom last night! Godmom smells so good!"
