Chapter 71: 58 - Reunion

Ah wait, where... am I? 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The thought crossed my mind as I snapped my eyes wide and looked around.

This room again. Huft.

I sighed, shutting my eyes for a moment before trying to push myself up from the bed with all the strength I could muster.

What exactly happened...?

My head was still hazy. I had gotten no idea on the current situation.

However, one thing was certain: I had done this and that with Kairi—crossing more boundaries than I could count—for that long. And honestly, I don’t think my body could take the lustful ’onslaught’ unleashed by my dear little sister Kairi any longer.

So, I gave up without even attempting to breathe.

Die after having sex... how ludicrous.

I started moving my joints to check my condition.

First, my arms. I slowly raised one, rotating it gently a few times.

Oh... wow.

No pains felt, not even ones throughout my veins.

The aches I had been enduring just vanished. I tried moving my legs next. Still functional, though maybe not quite strong enough to stand. But then again, before all of these happened, I still needed to be wheeled around by the nurse.

However, my utmost concern had been circumventing around the vent of fate’s uncertainty, considering her current circumstances.

I wonder... what’s happening to Kairi right now?

My thoughts drifted toward her, pulling me away from the fog.

Before I fell asleep, Kairi’s frame had been holding me tightly, her chest—well, more like a headboard I suppose—pressed up against my much softer, fuller figure.

But now, after getting away from such a suffocating breathless self, thanks to Kairi as she aided such an intoxicating pain with her saliva, here I was.

Now come to think of it... doesn’t this mean Mytheia is running its process?

I had Kairi gone as far as through all of that during Helena’s rescue—not without reason. It was part of the plan—a preparation for something coming in the future. And if Mytheia really did execute all of those complex commands on itself, then Kairi’s consciousness should’ve already transferred to by the next moment she had awoken.

Specifically, into her body—one that, if my prediction is right, has taken a serious hit. I told her it’s a "minor injury," but... honestly, that was just to hide the truth. Telling her what hadn’t happened yet would’ve been too dangerous. Her mental state at the time wasn’t stable either—she might’ve rejected everything outright. Including... the fact that she and Helena would be thoroughly interrogated after the operation.

And me?

I just need to wait for the signal.

I might suddenly wake up at the scene later on. Or—if I’m lucky—I’ll see Kairi again, with that signature gloomy, unmotivated look on her face.

Hehe.

Just as I smiled, enjoying the image of her expression, a loud CREAAK jolted me back to reality. The door opened. And, as expected... it was the nurse.

But—oh?

There were a few people behind her, wearing a worry face.

One of them was a beautiful woman with a warm, maternal aura I found familiar. Her features... they really looked like Kairi’s...

Wait—don’t tell me... that’s her mother?

She was accompanied by the doctor in charge of me, and they all stepped into the room together.

Eh.... a family reunion, perhaps?

The thought floated by absent-mindedly.

"Kairi!"

The woman—Ayaka, if I remember it correctly—rushed to my side, where I was still halfway sitting up. She was crying, like a mother who truly loved her child.

Honestly, if Kairi was really treated like this... then why did she distance herself?

My thoughts scattered again as Ayaka hugged me tightly.

A deep, warm embrace... like we hadn’t seen each other in ages.

After a few seconds—seconds that felt like a pressure-packed hour—she finally released me and looked into my eyes.

"You’re okay, sweetie?" she asked, stroking my head and wiping away her tears.

I froze. Taken aback.

How was I supposed to respond to that? Should I act like Kairi...?

Kairi, huh...

If I really have to pretend to be her, then—

I quickly pulled her hands away, put on a scowl, and said:

"I’m perfectly fine. Aren’t you busy, Ayaka?"

Perfect! Spot-on! I’m just like Kairi, for real for real!

Honestly... it felt awful. Lying to someone this sincere. But I—Selene—who deceived Kairi for all of the times and tried to become someone else, won’t let it all go to waste.

So... I act.

Maybe Kairi doesn’t know where I learned to act too, hehe.

Aethelgarthen has a theater club, you know...

Yes, they even chanted my name there. Said I had a calm, natural presence—never over-the-top. I always stole the show. From playing the heroic lead to a corrupt money-hungry villain—I was called a prodigy.

However, I used to avoid the spotlight.

But over time, my name spread like wildfire... almost divine.

Speaking of divine, Kairi’s mom—or I guess my mom for now—was wearing a strange look on her face. She covered her mouth with one hand and smiled faintly, like she couldn’t believe what she just saw.

Ayaka glanced at the nurse.

"Nurse, wasn’t Kairi diagnosed with amnesia just a few days ago?"

The nurse nodded with a little giggle. "Yes. The doctor diagnosed her with post-traumatic amnesia from the accident. But yesterday, he said her memories were beginning to return. Not fully, though—the results aren’t conclusive yet."

Ayaka let out a sigh of relief and turned back to me.

"Is that true, my sweet little Kairi? Mama’s been so worried~"

That expression...

No doubt about it. She definitely is Kairi’s mom. That cheeky grin, that over-the-top brightness... albeit not something you’d usually see from her.

I tried to respond in Kairi’s usual sharp tone:

"Wow. Suddenly I’m loved now that I almost died? Where were you all this time?"

"Oh, baby, don’t be like that~ Come here, let Mama hug you again~"

"Wait, no—!"

Too late.

The face of death loomed before me. Or... more accurately, two massive mounds of fate slammed into my face with brutal force, silencing me instantly.

"Mmmph!"

I let out a muffled cry, gasping for air.

I thought I would have never experienced this for the second time.

But oh well, once again... after the same thing already happened during the afterglow, I was on the verge of suffocation.

After all of commotions, is this... how I die?

I thought to myself, lamenting my fate. Or rather...

...lamenting the soft, smothering doom pressed so firmly against my face.
