Chapter 79: Eavesdropping
Michael woke up a few minutes after Noah had walked into the bathroom and touched the bed, but he did not feel anyone there.
His eyes shot open in fear, and he took a good look. Noah wasn’t there.
"Noah?" It made him feel startled, but then he started hearing voices from the bathroom.
"I’ve heard you." It was Noah’s voice. Phew, he hadn’t disappeared in the middle of the night, and that hadn’t been a dream either.
Yesterday was real.
Michael got down from the bed. He was butt naked, but he made his way to the bathroom, hoping to surprise Noah when he heard Noah’s voice again.
"Are you sure?" He sounded rather annoyed but in a hushed tone as if he didn’t want anyone to hear his conversation.
Who could Noah be talking to? He didn’t know anyone since he lost his memories. There was no contact on his phone either.
It made Michael skeptical. Had he met someone and exchanged numbers with them while they were living together? But even then, how close would they be for that person to call so early in the morning?
"I understand, so I’ll --" Noah paused, feeling Michael’s presence closer than before. He could sense him right outside the bathroom door. Was he eavesdropping? "I’ll let Michael know right away, so just give him time to have breakfast at least." He said and then cut the call.
The one on the other side of the phone was the scar-faced man named Sebastian.
He heard the last part of his Alpha’s words and wondered if the conversation had been switched because Michael had walked in on him.
It was so sudden that he got so confused.
"My master is walking on a tight rope." He said as he kept his phone in his pocket and turned to the taxi car he had driven the previous night. "Now, shall I change cars?"
Noah had two phones in his hands. One was his and the other was Michael’s phone, which he had used to answer Pedro’s call.
He was smart enough to know when to change the tone of his voice and make it seem like he was talking to someone in regards of Michael once he had been caught.
He hadn’t been hiding himself for this long with just sheer luck, after all.
He walked towards the door and then opened it, only for Michael’s face to fall on his chest.
"Ouch," he raised his head and rubbed his nose, looking at Noah, who pretended to be surprised.
But how could he? He had the sense of an animal.
"Did you want to use the bathroom?" Noah asked, and Michael blinked twice.
He was already looking for an excuse after he had been caught, so this works fine.
"Yes, yes. I need to use the bathroom." He said, and Noah decided to give him some space.
Michael walked past him but then got his ass spanked.
"Ouch, what was that for?" Michael asked, his face in distress as he held his ass and Noah said,
"It’s your punishment for eavesdropping." He said over a laugh, which took Michael by surprise.
"So, you... You knew?"
"I have the sense of an animal." Noah said, crouching his back so he could lean his face to Michael’s. "Literally."
Michael pouted. Even so, he didn’t need to spank his bare ass. It was weird.
"Then, I won’t hide it. Who were you talking to in the bathroom that you kept your voice so hushed?" He demanded but looked too cute as he sulked to even pass on a serious look.
Noah laughed.
"Jealous?"
"What?! No!" Michael exclaimed right away. "There’s no way I’d be jealous of someone I don’t even know. And I know you wouldn’t have that kind of relationship with someone else. Besides, your tone didn’t exactly sound like that either." He rolled his eyes away in shame.
He did suspect it a bit, but he just couldn’t see how it was possible when they were always together.
"I just want to know if you made a friend or something."
"And if I did?" Noah pressed on. He was having fun teasing Michael.
Michael pressed his lips together, twisted them, and said,
"I won’t allow it. I’m not jealous, but I won’t have you have a friend either. As you said, anyone and everyone could be a suspect, so we could only trust each other." He said so seriously that it made Noah pause for a minute.
If this wasn’t jealousy, then what was?
Noah laughed once more and then stretched his phone towards him.
"Why don’t you find out yourself?" He asked, and Michael said that it was his phone. Who did he call with this?
He saw the last number there belonged to Pedro.
"I didn’t make any new friends and I’m definitely not seeing anyone behind my mate’s back, so you can be at ease," he said, kissing the top of his head.
"Ah, so it was Pedro." Michael said in realization, and Noah nodded. "What did he say?"
"In summary, he needs you to come to the bank soon so you don’t have to wait in line." Noah explained just as Pedro had said when he called. "But I want you to have breakfast first, so I told him not to rush you."
Michael had mixed feelings. He had suspected him for nothing.
He was only talking to Pedro on his behalf, and he kept his tone hushed so he wouldn’t wake him up.
He probably sounded annoyed because he didn’t like others telling him what to do.
"It’s alright," Michael said, caressing his face. "After today, it’ll all fall into place, just like before." He smiled and pecked Noah on the lips. "Now, let me hurry and get this over with. I’ll leave right away."
"Why? Won’t you at least eat breakfast?"
"No, I... I just can’t wait to finish up over here." Michael said and smiled. "I want to go home with you as soon as possible."
He was impatient, and so was Noah. Noah understood this, so he did not try to persuade him any further.
"Alright. I’ll wait here for you and help you pack your things. As soon as you get back, we’ll go home."
