Chapter 57: Pathetic existence
Rhaegar’s pov
My name is Rhaeger. I believe I’ve been given the screen before, but I wasn’t at my best at that time.
I’m the Beta of the Blue Moon Pack, and my Alpha is currently missing.
I got Intel that Alpha Noah’s energy was felt around this area. My men have searched this area three times in the past few days, but there has been nothing.
It’s been three months since he went missing, and nothing has been heard from the search party sent by the elders or my men.
How was that possible? It was as if he completely vanished. We were popular for having keen noses and able to sniff out a pin in a hay stack, and yet we could not sniff out our own Alpha.
Isn’t that pathetic?
If I had known things would’ve gotten so complicated, I would’ve taken more caution in the ’plan’.
I looked around, hoping to get leads since my men seem to be missing something. I asked around a few times, but I found my phone pathetic.
Lowering myself to talk to these low-born creatures as I searched for my Alpha seemed to be reducing my sense of self as well as my worth.
I was the Beta and the right-hand man of the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, the most powerful in our country. I shouldn’t be reduced to a search dog.
I would just ask a few more and be done for the day.
I saw a man in front of me staring at the suits on the window display. I took a look and noticed it was the latest edition suits.
I scoffed. This man could never afford it even if he worked his whole life. He was probably just dreaming about getting it for himself with his small physique.
He should stop dreaming.
I approached him and called out to get his attention.
"Excuse me," he turned, and the first thing. He scanned my face as well as my body.
Was he a pervert? He was also rude.
The first thing you do when someone walks up to you should be to look them in the eye, to show them you’re listening, but he’s sizing me up.
Pathetic existence.
"I’m looking for someone," I said, and he nodded, finally giving me the attention I deserved. "He’s tall, tanned, very handsome. He has black hair and black eyes. Have you seen him around here?"
I was expecting him to shake his head or ask for more details, but he went silent instead, as if he was thinking.
Had he seen my Alpha or not?
If he was going to answer, he should have done it already. My time was precious, and he was just wasting it thinking about it.
But wasn’t this strange? Why was it taking him so long to respond? He must’ve definitely seen my Alpha somewhere.
I looked towards the show glass.
"Ah, I think his build is exactly like that of the mannequin or maybe a little bigger." I said, and I noticed his eyes widen as if they had seen something scary.
This man... He definitely knew something.
"I don’t know, but if you have a picture, maybe I could..." He said, and I took out my phone.
He should’ve asked for this much sooner.
I brought out Alpha Noah’s picture on my screen and then turned it to him.
"Here," he took a look at it, and as I thought, his expression wasn’t simple.
He definitely knew something.
"Have you seen this man around here or anywhere at all?" I asked. Maybe this was finally a new lead to find out Alpha.
As soon as we get back, we have so much to do. We have to...
"I’m sorry," he suddenly said, interrupting my thoughts.
"What?"
"I haven’t seen him." He answered.
No, he was lying. He had definitely seen him. If not, why did he hesitate then? Why did he have these reactions and even take so long to respond?
"I haven’t seen him," he said again. "But the man in the picture is really handsome. Is he someone popular?" He asked, and I squinted my eyes suspiciously at him.
So, did he hesitate simply because he was handsome? What was that supposed to mean?
"Hm?" He asked, looking me in the eye. Something he didn’t do before.
It was as if he was trying to extract information from me.
He was suspicious.
"Yes, he’s popular," I answered, putting my phone back in my inner pocket. "That’s because he’s my boss,"
This human... Was he really not hiding anything?
But the look in his eyes was clear. It didn’t look like he was hiding anything.
Yet... I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he was hiding something.
How was he involved with Alpha Noah?
"Well, in that case. I hope you find him soon." He said. "I’m going this way, so happy finding."
"Yes,"
He walked past me, but then I got a whiff. Something pleasant. Was he a female? A marked one too?
But that’s not all, I was sure that amid that female Pheromone, I got a whiff of an Alpha Pheromone.
"Wait," I grabbed his shoulder, but then a repelling force bounced my hand off harshly.
He looked at me, confused, but I was equally confused.
He was definitely a marked female, and his Alpha must be quite the protective type. But I’ve never heard of there being any Alpha in this region.
There weren’t even any packs. Just rogues.
Did he get marked by a rogue?
"Sir?"
My men arrived, and I tore my gaze away from the man for a minute, but he managed to slip away in that single minute.
I felt anxious. That man was definitely suspicious, and he was hiding something. A female to an Alpha can’t roam around so freely without any protection.
’But I guess that force that pushed my hand away is some sort of protection.’
The one who marked him was definitely strong. Could it be...?
I looked towards the mannequin on display and squinted my eyes. Maybe. Just maybe.
I didn’t have any options, and a fake lead was better than no lead at all.
"New plan," I said to my men. "Find me information on all the rogues living in this area and..." I sniffed the air. I could no longer catch his scent, so I couldn’t follow him. "Get me the CCTV footage that leads down that direction."
