Chapter 54: You’re the one who always says not to waste money unnecessarily

"What’s wrong?" Noah asked, and I snapped out of my thoughts, looked up at him, and found him staring.

He had his nose mask hanging on one of his ears, blocking the rest of the people in the restaurant from seeing the full side view of his face.

He also wore his face cap, just in case.

"You’re playing with the food," Noah pointed out and I looked at my plate.

I decided to have pasta and got Noah steak, and yet, he was almost done, but I was still stabbing my fork into my pasta and selecting out the diced proteins.

"Is something bothering you?" He asked once more and I sighed.

I was the one who said we should come out for dinner and yet I was letting other thoughts ruin the moment.

"I’m sorry," I apologized.

"Is the food not to your liking?" He asked and I smiled awkwardly.

Look at him being so caring and attentive.

"I haven’t even taken a bite of it yet." I said and laughed nervously. "But I’m sure it’s good."

"Then, do you not feel well?"

"I do." I answered. "I mean, I should, but I suddenly lost my appetite." I looked away. "Sorry, I’m ruining the night."

"It’s okay," Noah said and placed down his cutleries. I watched him reach out for the napkin and started cleaning his hands.

"What are you doing? You’re not done yet." I said but he drank his wine in a rather polished way and said,

"If you don’t have the appetite, I don’t see why we need to stay any longer." Was he for real? "Let’s go. We’ll find something that soothes your palate as we walk down the road."

So, he was just going to leave his half-eaten steak because I didn’t feel like eating? Could this man be any more of a romantic?

If not that he was a man with nothing, no memories of his life before the attack, and no money, he would’ve definitely been the perfect man to date. A classy man who wouldn’t hesitate to spend a lot of his lover.

If only he were a normal person, though.

As if is, his status and identity would’ve definitely put us in an impossible relationship. After all, there was no way a person like me could ever make connections with someone like him.

So that’s why, even if it’s a selfish thought, I’m glad that he has no memories. And I wish... For a little longer... His memories do not return.

I wish it was just the two of us like this, with no problems and no complicated background to separate us.

"It’s alright, Noah." I said. "You’re the one who always says not to waste money unnecessarily so let’s eat up and talk about the disturbing stuff later."

"So, there is indeed something that is weighing on your mind." He said and I nodded, pursing my lips as I felt it was something rather insignificant.

How would I suddenly bring up the topic of my body changing into something rather unfamiliar?

If I asked him, would he even know about it? He had amnesia, after all. But not entirely, as he was still well aware of most facts like how he was an Alpha, how an Alpha reacts to a mark and a female, and, of course, the heat.

"I’ll eat first," I said and finally took a fork full of pasta and shoved it in my mouth. It was delicious.

Noah watched me as I ate and after making sure I was indeed eating and not putting up an act, he also continued eating his steak.

When we were done eating, he put his nose mask back up and we made our way out.

"Noah," I called and he glanced to his side where I was walking. "Can I... Hold your arm?"

It’s not like we’re dating, but I wanted to get that feeling at least once. We strolled through those streets before, and he even carried me on his back, but this time, it was different.

I knew we weren’t a couple or anything special, but I also knew our time together was limited. He would eventually get his memories back whether I liked it or not. So, we could only do so much while we were together.

"Are you sure you’re feeling okay?" He asked but I shrugged my shoulders.

"I should be asking you that. Is this a marked female thing?" I asked, brushing my cheek with the bottom of my palm. "You’re always right beside me but for some reason, I feel like I’m missing you. It’s so strange, don’t you think?"

Noah stared at me and then closed his eyes, giving in.

"Your feelings are deeply attached to me now," he said. "It’s like a chain binding you to me. I’m sorry," he apologized like it was his fault, but spread his arms regardless and hugged me.

I only asked to hold his arm so why the hug?

"I should show you more care so you don’t feel lonely," he said and my heart began to race. "I’ve been neglectful even though I knew you might end up feeling this way."

Wait, what did this mean? I didn’t understand.

He made it sound like he was obligated to be nice and show me lots of care.

"I’m the reason you’re feeling this way so I’ll make sure to take responsibility," he said and brushed his hands over the back of my neck. "Does this make you feel less insecure?"

I don’t know. I don’t know because my heart was thumping so hard that I felt it was going to explode right out of my rib cage.

I raised my arms and wrapped them around him. I hugged him back and sunk my body into his.

"Yeah," I answered. "This makes me feel much better."

Being a female was harder than I thought. Having insecurities and feeling lonely even when the person I was attached to was right next to me. If Noah was planning to show me more care then he should start by giving me what I want.

"Then, shall we get going?" I asked, raising my head to look at him. "You’ll give me what I want, right?"

Noah knew what that simple ’want’ was and he shut his eyes, nodding and he said,

"Alright. I’ll hold you tonight."

His words made my heart flutter. He really was such a romantic.
