Chapter 37: Why, isn’t this Micheal?

I suddenly felt embarrassed. I brushed my hair forward to cover my face and averted my eyes.

"Well, sorry. I was lost in thoughts for a moment," I said and stole a glance at him to see if he was still looking at me and he was.

His dark eyes peered into mine silently, as if waiting for a response.

I gulped.

"Do you... Need anything?" I asked and he straightened his back.

"We’re at the Mart," he said and I looked around. What? Already? "Where’s the list?"

I took out the list from my pocket, handed it to him, and watched him walk away to start picking out the things on the list. I gulped and then zipped up my hoodie completely till it covered most of my face.

I flushed.

This was so embarrassing. This had to be the most embarrassed I’d been in a while. Seriously, how did I not notice we had walked all the way?

Was I that deep in my thoughts?

And Noah... If he didn’t have that nose mask on, I might’ve mistaken that he was about to kiss me, coming on to me so closely.

I breathed softly. What was wrong with me?

Was I getting sexually frustrated? Was that why I kept having these obscene thoughts and obsessing over him?

I quickly shook it out of my head and decided to advance forward.

But I found Noah standing in one position and it looked like his eyes were on the television hanging above his head.

Was he interested in the news?

I got closer and checked the television but it was just some old boring news.

"Whatcha looking at?" I asked but Noah looked away and said,

"It’s nothing."

I watched him leave and wondered what had gotten into him all of a sudden.

"Hey, wait up."

If I had stayed there for a second more, I might’ve seen the person who had appeared on the screen, as well as the name written boldly underneath, but I missed it.

"We should get a minty toothpaste this time around," I suggested as we looked over the list of toiletries we needed and then I heard a familiar voice,

"Why, isn’t this Micheal?" I paused for a minute, a slight gasp escaping my lips but I soon frowned and exhaled, pretending I didn’t hear anything.

"So, minty and refreshing, right?" I asked Noah as I picked up the toothpaste which got on the nerves of the man who called out to me from behind.

His tone was laced with mockery, so why should I entertain him by sparing a glance at him?

Noah did not know who it was but seeing I had ignored him, he decided it was none of our business and nodded.

"I think we should get two just in case," he said and picked up another toothpaste.

"Yeah," I laughed. "We should get two for everything. That way, we don’t need to come out to buy toiletries often."

"Heh," the voice scorned. "So, this must be your new lover." He said. "Is that why you don’t want to spare me a glance? You’re being so rude for someone who threw the first punch,"

I closed my eyes, sighed, and turned around, but I wasn’t turning to him. We were done picking the toiletries and needed to go towards the racks that had the rest of our list.

"Should we get some snacks too?" I asked Noah and this caused the man’s veins to pop up his head and his arms.

"How dare you ignore me?"

He stormed towards me and reached out to grab my arm but I slapped his hand away.

"What do you want, Zane?" I asked, my eyes narrowed in disgust. "Can’t you be a normal person and just walk past if you see something that doesn’t concern you?"

Zane, the man who had broken up with me because he was ’tired’ of screwing an old man like me, scoffed as he brushed his bruised hand.

"You’ve changed, huh? Why? Did you figure out your boring self wouldn’t be able to hold down the likes of any man so you decided to change your look?"

I had no idea what that bastard was talking about and I honestly didn’t want to know.

It was such a bad omen to run into a bastard like him on a happy day like this.

"Think whatever you want, so long it makes you happy," I said and grabbed Noah’s arm. "Come, let’s go. We shouldn’t waste any more time on irrelevant molecules."

Noah allowed me to pull him away but then Zane grabbed him from behind.

I thought Noah had stopped, but when I looked back, I saw Zane grabbing onto Noah’s arm, and Noah was not happy about this.

"Hey, you can’t tell me you have fun screwing that old foggie, right?" He asked and I got mad.

"Zane, don’t cross the line." I yelled at him, dragging attention to us.

"What do you mean? Are you scared that I’ll get him to spill out his real thoughts?" He asked, snickering as if he was in the right lane. "He’s probably only with you so he can mooch off you."

"And what does that have to do with you?" Noah asked. "So, what? Are you mad that I took your place?"

Zane was a bit surprised. He did not expect Noah to admit it so easily. Haa, he didn’t know anything about Noah so he didn’t have the right to say all that about him.

Though it was true that he was mooching off me, but that was because I allowed it.

"It seems to me like you’re jealous," Noah said and then glanced at his hand on him. "But it’s too late for you now," he flung his hand off. "Be a good flee and go someplace else. We don’t need you here unless you want to get squashed."

Zane’s face went red in rage and I stifled a laugh. Wow, Noah was so harsh with his words. I liked it. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Noah turned to me and said,

"Let’s go."

We were walking away when Zane yelled,

"You think you’re hot stuff, huh?" We decided to ignore him but what he said next shocked me to my bones. "Just wait till Mark knows about this,"

I paused. Wait, what did he say?

I quickly turned around but he was gone. Oh my! Oh no! Why did he have to bring you, Mark? What did Mark have to do with any of this?

I staggered a bit but Noah held me and asked,

"Are you okay?" I grabbed his clothes and clenched tightly.

No, I wasn’t okay. I was far from okay.
