Chapter 312: Settling in and Setting out
Vestra was the next to arrive on the island, flying down in a sleek, one passenger transportation pod, which was like a person sized bullet flying through the air and was the equivalent of renting a helicopter instead of a car in the old world.
That was certainly surprising coming from the girl who flew here on public airways, or at least they had assumed she was flying public.
Vestra had never made mention of any kind of wealth, new or old. But it felt rude to question her about it, especially since they were just meeting. It didn’t fail to make them incredibly curious, however.
Vestra, real name Elise, looked extraordinarily like her character. To the degree that the only thing that was different about her, was her hair. It was snow white, cut to just below her shoulders, rather than the curling smoke of her in game character.
But that was basically it. Same adorable face and petite stature. Even her light grey eyes were the same. It was actually a little enviable how close she looked.
Ren also looked the same as Revenant, although with the sunken eyes and waxy, pure white skin, that was less desirable. It was also due to him unlocking his source and developing into his in-game race, which had helped mold his appearance into that of the walking dead.
This walking corpse was the last to arrive, riding on his undead Dragon that thankfully did not stink nearly as much as it did when it was fresh.
"You know, you could have been just a little more subtle about your abilities. Couldn’t have rode in on a pod or gotten your own Brick?" Valerie chastised him with a shake of the head when he walked in the room. She glanced out the window, looking over the colossal undead beast that was standing guard outside whilst they all sat in the lounge. A room that was only called that because it had an old couch sitting in it.
"You get to bring your pet, why can’t I have one of mine?" He said with a smarmy smirk, gesturing to Shadow Demon in the form of a cat that was sitting on top of one of the many moving boxes.
"Anyways, It will be useful for tomorrow. It might be the first one, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy. We are at our weakest, and it isn’t gonna give us a second chance if we mess it up. So if you want to live, don’t complain." He shot her a glare, however Valerie just shook her head and laughed.
"Yeah, Yeah. You just like showing off that you have a dragon." She chuckled.
He glared at her, before raising his eyebrows and shrugging slightly with a smirk,
"Well... If you’ve got a dragon, why wouldn’t you show it off? Nothing wrong with that, is there?"
Valerie laughed, she couldn’t argue with that, whilst Lucy pouted slightly as she missed her little baby Gaia.
"So... tomorrow. Is it really that soon?" Jason asked with a solemn expression, bringing the room down slightly.
Even Ren looked serious, as he nodded softly.
"That’s right. It’s not a lot of time, I know. But if we leave it too long, it will grow stronger and more people will die. The next month is going to be filled with hardship. So think of this as your very last chance to leave, because we can’t have any doubters on the battlefield." Ren declared sternly, casting a withering glare over those gathered around him.
He waited for anyone to raise their hands or to leave. However no one moved a muscle, and instead simply returned the glare.
"You think we would be here if we weren’t ready for this?" Elise asked, her leg bouncing with barely contained nervousness.
"I mean sure, It’s scary. But this is what we need to do. We all understand that. So don’t count us out just because we haven’t seen what you’ve seen future boy."
A rare smile tugged at Ren’s lips as he listened to Elise. Two smiles in one day, it really was getting close to the end.
"Well then, Sounds like you’re all prepared. But it doesn’t help to be even more prepared." Ren said with yet another smile, which was starting to get a little creepy now, as he pulled a back out from his back pocket and tossed it onto the cloth covered table.
Its contents spilled out on impact, covering the table in a dozen glistening Source Remnants.
"You aren’t the only one who can bring stuff from the other world, fang-face." He said with a smug glance towards Valerie, who chuckled.
"Weren’t you paying attention? I already brought some back and sent them to everyone. There is no way that everyone is going to be able to absorb all of those by tomorrow." Valerie shot back, plucking up one of the crystals and examining it.
It would be a shame for them to go to waste, but even if she ate them all she wasn’t sure if that would boost her up to the next level. It would give her more to work with, but just eating them without proper progress would be even more of a waste.
"Who says that they need to absorb them the slow way? We might not be able to eat them like you," Ren explained, slapping the back of Valerie’s hand, causing her to drop the gem back onto the table and rub her hand with a pout.
"Plant boy over there is gonna help me turn them into some special potions, aren’t you?"
Trivian perked up, a surprised look on his face as he pointed to himself,
"M-me? Oh well... I guess, If you know the recipe, I could help."
"Great! Off we go then, no time to lose!" Ren shouted with a clap of his hands, before grabbing Trivian by the scruff of his collar and dragging him out of his chair.
