Chapter 299: Spilling Blood and Secrets

Percival the Second watched with a cold, uncaring glare as his son manifested a truly beautiful suit of pure golden armour out of thin air. However, he could not help but scoff at the three points that sprouted from the helmet’s forehead, as if they were trying to resemble a child’s drawing of a star.

A crown would be much more suitable for a true Monarch, but what could be expected of a boy who proudly called himself Prince instead of declaring himself King.

As the two armoured warriors charged forwards, meeting each other in the middle with a handshake of sharpened steel, Percival got his own handshake as he felt a small, cold blade pressing into his side.

He scoffed again, shaking his head in disappointment, and did not bother to turn around. He knew who the knife belonged to anyways.

"I see the Attano’s still have not changed. Traitorous rats to your bones, to go against the laws of the truce here and now.

Still, I would have expected more from you. You should really know that my assistant here would be able to interrupt any foolhardy attack, even by a rat like yourself, before that paltry blade could pierce my skin."

"That’s where I would have to disagree," The man sitting behind Percival said, with a cold and menacing scowl as he twisted the knife back and forth, as if imagining it being twisted in his guts.

"She might be able to stop me from killing you, but I could definitely get at least three good stabs in, maybe even a twist, before she notices and can make a move. It is my techniques that you used to teach her, after all.

But luckily for your suit, I am not here for fun. We are here to discuss business, and the only traitor is you, Monarch" He spat the last word, as if its presence on his tongue disgusted him.

The Attano Patriarch flicked his wrist, making the dagger in his grasp disappear like a magicians card trick, before moving forwards to the seat in front of him so that he was sitting shoulder to shoulder with the Monarch Patriarch.

He was a scruffy looking gentleman of European descent, with medium, salt and pepper coloured hair that framed a naturally handsome face that was showing a few signs of age. However each wrinkle or grey hair just added to his ruggedly charming looks.

However despite these good looks, he was easily able to mask his entire presence, so that it was nearly impossible to tell that he was there, even if you were looking at him.

"Traitor?" Percival spat, whipping his head towards the man casually lounging next to him.

"How did you manage to pull such a ridiculous thing from that pea-sized mind of yours?"

The Attano glanced dismissively as Percival, before looking out at young Percy’s display. It was rather impressive, watching him fighting in that lovely armour as his sword, which had also turned golden, easily carved through the floor and the reinforcements beneath it.

"Do you think that we are gullible enough to think this is a coincidence? That the company that favours your son gains access to our secrets, secrets we have kept as such for millennia, and that he also just so happened to use that companies new product to advance to such an impressive level?"

Percival grit his teeth and narrowed his eyes as he turned back to his sons performance, before a playful smirk danced across his usually miserable face.

"So, you admit that he is impressive, do you?"

The Attano leader shook his head and let out a disappointed sigh, as he simply rose to his feet and pushed past Percival.

"You are a fool." Percival quickly said, his serious expression returning as he caused the Attano to pause in his steps.

"You are a fool if you think that I would be so simple as to make it so blatantly obvious, that even a child could figure out such connections. You have known me long enough to know, that is not my style.

You and I both know exactly who is responsible for this. But I have a feeling that you don’t know how we figured out our secrets either, am I wrong?"

The Attano glanced over his shoulder, scowling deeply, before letting out an irritated grumble before walking off. He did not try to duck out of people’s eye-line, nor even bothered to be careful as he moved past them.

Even with the man lingering in their direct eye-line, none of the individuals present seemed to care, or even notice, that their view of the fight was being blocked. Nor did they notice when their legs were bumped as he pushed past.

If it was not for his careless attitude that caused many of these bumps, one might have assumed that he was a ghost.

Percival watched the man leave, keeping his senses open and on the highest alert, as they had been since the very moment he landed in this city. Not one single millisecond could he spare for a moment of relaxation.

Not with these people around. He cast his gaze over the crowd, meeting eyes with the Zhao woman. She raised her head, keeping eye contact with him for a few seconds, before they both looked away at the same time, neither one wanting to show a moment of weakness in front of the other.

Percival was so high strung, that he barely cared that Percy came to a draw with the Enforcer he was fighting, although it was hardly a fair fight, since they had not been going for the kill and had to hold themselves back.

Still, it was a performance that did not sully his great name, so at least the boy was useful for something.

He spared him a glance, the best form of congratulations that the whelp deserved, before listening to the next prepared speech by Noel McGuinness.

These ’Enforcers’ did not interest Percival in the slightest. They were simple mercenaries and thugs pumped up on an inferior product created from stolen techniques. They were nothing compared to the strength of his own men, and he knew that whether his useless son won or not.

However, regardless of his secrets, Percival was a business man at heart. So the next discussion, which involved how they would keep control over the public, interested him greatly. If they were going to steal their techniques, then they could at least profit off of the thieves before they killed them.

That was the sole thing that the four families could agree on.
