Chapter 166: Chapter 154: This Is the Scent the Little Female Likes

The West Wall, Zone D.

Lightning flashed in the clouds, tearing through the gray sky.

The electromagnetic field generated by the swarms of Mutant Species caused another power outage across all of Zone 19.

The military quickly changed its plan. Several small squads took trapping devices to disperse the Mutant Species, while firepower was concentrated in three areas. They would use a Mimic Mixed Species to lure the King Seed here. If the devices meant for the King Seed proved ineffective, they would have to resort to a human-wave attack.

The Beastman soldiers silently looked up at the Mutant Species flying overhead. They held weapons specifically designed to counter them, ready to shoot down any that approached Zone D on sight.

They had to temporarily clear this area and wait for the Mimic Mixed Species to ensnare the King Seed.

But why wasn’t the West District’s Mimic Mixed Species here yet?

The number of Mutant Species was growing. Their swarm effect would amplify the electromagnetic interference, and soon, their insulation devices would fail.

Alex stood on the edge of the rooftop, staring intently toward the east wall, focusing as he awaited the King Seed’s appearance.

For some reason, a flicker of anxiety rose within him, and the image of the little female surfaced in his mind.

’How is she doing right now? With Cook and Barto gone, is she too worried to sleep?’

’Jite and the others probably haven’t found those two Mixed Breeds yet. I have to deal with this King Seed before I can go take care of those gangsters in Zone 19.’

Alex raised his wrist to look at his offline terminal, then lowered his arm with a grim expression.

"Boss!"

Hearing Kloer’s voice, Alex turned his head in surprise.

Kloer vaulted over the edge of the inner wall’s platform. Immediately after, a familiar, petite figure leaped up behind him, landing with nimble grace.

Seeing her, Alex froze. He was about to roar at Kloer, but before the words could escape, he sharply sensed something was wrong. His eyes locked onto the little female cowering close to Kloer’s side.

"Boss, Little Gu Ning was making a fuss about wanting to see you."

Kloer knew he was in for a scolding for bringing Gu Ning to see Alex at a time like this, but since he’d already brought her, he could at least ask the boss whether Little Gu Ning was really a Mimic Mixed Species.

"Who told you to bring her here!"

Alex barked at Kloer, simultaneously giving the Beastman soldier beside him a meaningful look.

The soldier understood instantly, quietly passing the message to the other soldiers one by one.

Kloer was frozen in place by the icy tone in Alex’s voice. He said anxiously, "Boss, I have something to ask you. Something important."

Alex said coldly, "I’ve been too busy to keep an eye on you all lately, so you’ve started acting recklessly, even ignoring my direct orders."

Kloer: "Boss, I..."

"Get back."

Alex cut Kloer off.

Several Beastman soldiers stepped forward and pushed Kloer away.

Alex strode over to Gu Ning, placed a hand on her shoulder, and softened his tone. "It’s so dangerous here. Didn’t I tell you to wait for me to come back?"

Gu Ning’s dark eyes stared at Alex as she smiled. "Missed you."

Hearing "Gu Ning" speak, Kloer’s eyes widened. "It... It can— MPH!"

Two soldiers on either side of Kloer clamped their hands over his mouth.

"Miss me?" Alex smiled back, his gaze as gentle as water, betraying nothing.

"Gu Ning" nodded, took a step forward, and opened her arms to embrace Alex. The mouth hidden under her mask stretched into a slight grin, revealing a half-row of sharp, bone-white teeth, desperate to devour his flesh and blood.

’This was the scent the little female liked.’

’By becoming this wolf, she won’t resist it anymore. It can have more contact with her.’

At the thought of the little female, its mouth couldn’t stop watering.

Alex made a show of bending down to hug her, but the moment she was about to touch him, he violently grabbed its neck and slammed it to the ground.

The force was so immense, it seemed he would smash it to pieces.

Everyone heard the sharp CRACK of breaking bones, followed by a beast-like shriek from the Mixed Breed in his grasp.

Kloer was completely dumbfounded by the sight.

"Boss! It’s all my fault! Don’t blame Little Gu Ning."

Watching "Little Gu Ning" struggle painfully in Alex’s grip, Kloer shoved aside the soldiers restraining him and rushed forward to protect Gu Ning, completely forgetting why he had come in the first place.

Several Beastman soldiers rushed forward and pinned Kloer down.

Alex ignored Kloer, his hand tight around the Mimic Mixed Species’ neck as he slammed it into the ground again, and again, and again.

The sight sent a chill through Kloer’s heart. ’Little Gu Ning is so small. How could she possibly survive a beating like that?’

He let out a furious roar and threw off the soldiers pinning him down. "Alex! Let Little Gu Ning go!"

"Kloer, are you stupid? That’s a Mimic Mixed Species!"

Seeing that they were about to fail in restraining Kloer, one of the soldiers couldn’t help but shout.

Kloer froze. "What?"

"A Mim... Mimic Mixed Species?"

Kloer stared in disbelief at the little Mixed Breed being slammed into the ground by Alex. His heart grew even colder, and he stood stunned in place as if he had suffered a massive blow.

"Alex, the King Seed is heading this way!" a Beastman soldier warned him.

"What did you do to her?!" Alex ignored the warning. He hauled the Mimic Mixed Species up by its neck, his voice laced with a slight tremor amidst his uncontrollable rage.

Seeing its identity was exposed, 1366’s eyes instantly became slitted pupils, and its body began to expand rapidly.

"Alex!" a high-ranking officer stepped forward. "1366 still has a mission to carry out."

As he spoke, he shook a small, hollow sphere he was holding at 1366.

smelled the scent emanating from the sphere, and its rapidly expanding body froze. It sensed the killing intent rolling off Alex, and after a fleeting moment of contemplation, it reverted to its previous form.

Remembering the important mission, Alex calmed himself down. He took a deep breath and said to the officer, "Make it change its appearance."

The officer had just agreed when an angry shout rang out. "Alex, let it go!"

Alex and the others looked toward the voice to see Vine, the leader of the Wolf Team, rushing toward them with several of his subordinates.

Vine shoved Kloer, who was standing in the way, aside and roared at Alex, "Give us back Cook!"

Alex said slowly, "How do you know Cook?"

As he spoke, he looked at Kloer.

Kloer looked from Alex to Vine, then scratched his head and said, "Just now, when I brought Little... uh, Cook to find you, we ran into Vine. He insisted that Cook belonged to their wolf pack."

A thought seemed to strike Alex. He tossed 1366 to Vine and said, "You take command here."

With that, he sprinted off toward a location somewhere ahead.

"Boss!" Kloer glanced at the little Mixed Breed in Vine’s hands, hesitated for a moment, then ran after Alex. "Why didn’t you tell me Little Gu Ning was actually..."

Alex grabbed Kloer by the collar and slammed him against a corner cluttered with junk. "Who told you *she* was a Mimic Mixed Species?!"
