Chapter 149: Chapter 137: Then Give Me My Things Back

Ming Ze said, "Why don’t we stop here? We can have W hand over the Mimic Mixed Species, and once Zone 19 opens the passage, we’ll take our person and head back."

Mingxi shook his head. ’If only it were that easy.’

"We have to complete the mission, and we have to bring our person back."

Mingxi quickly made his decision. He walked up to Leighton and said, "We can help you with this, but when it’s over, I want to use the police department’s highest level of authority."

Leighton raised an eyebrow. "I’ll use my authority to help you complete your mission, but it’s limited to the mission."

Mingxi said, "We also need to check someone’s identity."

Leighton thought for a moment. "Just one person?"

Mingxi said, "Just one person."

Leighton: "Deal. Little Black, tell them the mission details."

Little Black sent them the files on Kuinan and some of his subordinates.

After reviewing the files, the group devised a battle plan and prepared to head to the residential area across the street.

"Wait, someone’s coming."

Leighton raised a hand to stop Mingxi and the others, pulling them to hide behind a snowmobile. He peeked out, looking diagonally across the street.

A snowmobile stopped outside the residential area, and several figures got out one after another.

Little Black looked at the information from his terminal’s scanner and said, "It’s Kuinan’s men. Feng Xiao, Wind Blade, and..."

"Those two are his right-hand men. They need to be killed, too." Leighton squinted, his eyes fixed on the red figure that jumped down after them. "Well, there’s a familiar face."

Little Black said, "Barto. An Atavistic Mixed Breed. He’s had dealings with Kuinan in the past."

"Mingxi, isn’t that..." Belial stared at the fox-like figure, exchanging an uncertain look with Mingxi. "Is that him?"

Mingxi’s brow furrowed slightly. "Yes."

"How did he end up here?" Belial whispered. "Could it be..."

Mingxi cut him off with a look and turned to ask Leighton, "Is that fox working with Kuinan?"

Leighton frowned as well. He hadn’t had the manpower to keep an eye on that young Mixed Breed for the past few days. ’This fox had better not have gotten too involved with her.’

He tapped open his terminal, intending to contact Alex directly, but there was no signal. He had no choice but to give up.

Ming Ze asked, "Is he on the kill list, too?"

Leighton said, "Not for now. Let’s go. We’ll follow them."

...

Barto followed Feng Xiao and his men into the residential area. They wove between several buildings, making their way to the one at the very center of the complex.

Once inside the building, the Bird Clan Orcs didn’t head up. Instead, they led him downstairs.

After two flights of stairs, they pushed open a large door, and a deafening roar of noise surged out like a bursting dam.

Barto looked out and saw the basement had been converted into a fighting pit and a casino. A dozen or so Beast Fighting Cages each held a pair of Beastmen, Mixed Breeds, or even Mutant Species.

The roars of beasts and the cheers of the spectating Beastmen outside the cages blended into a tidal wave of sound. The stench of blood, mixed with all kinds of bestial scents, made his stomach churn.

Barto followed them past the rows of Beast Fighting Cages, slipping a hand into his pocket to briefly tighten his grip on the small box within.

"Boss, we brought him."

Feng Xiao and Wind Blade stopped before a Beast Fighting Cage and stepped aside, revealing Barto.

CLANG...

The sound of violently rattling chains rang out.

Barto looked up to see a Beastman with one shattered wing fighting a chained Mutant Species. Upon seeing Barto, the Beastman leaped down from the side of the cage, plunged the sharp blade in his hand into the Mutant Species’s chest, and pulled out a thumb-sized Crystal Stone that glowed with a faint blue light.

"Garbage."

Kuinan crushed the Crystal Stone, stepped out of the cage, and sat down in a chair. He took the wine a subordinate handed him, using it to wash the blood from his hands. His single remaining right eye stared coldly at Barto.

Barto remained silent for a moment before pulling the item from his pocket and tossing it to him. "The goods you wanted."

Kuinan caught it, opened the box for a glance, and then snapped it shut.

"You have your goods. Can I go now?" Barto asked.

Kuinan laughed. After a moment, he said to Feng Xiao, "Throw him in there. Pick some trash to go in and play with him."

The color drained from Barto’s face. He turned to run, but Feng Xiao grabbed him and pinned him to the ground.

"Don’t want to go in?" Kuinan said. "That’s fine, too."

Kuinan squatted in front of him. "Then give me back what’s mine."

Barto: "What are you talking about?"

The sharp blade in Kuinan’s hand lifted Barto’s chin. "Little fox, you stole something of mine that’s worth a fortune. You’ve made quite a bit of money from it, haven’t you?"

Barto bared his fangs. "I don’t know what you’re talking about!"

Kuinan tapped open his terminal and played a video for him. "Pretty clever. Instead of selling her, you decided to have her film videos."

Barto stared at the figure in the video who was wearing a mask, revealing a pair of bright eyes... a female? His eyes widened in an instant.
