Chapter 136: Chapter 126: Must Leave

Gu Ning quickly pulled her hand away and dodged to the side.

She had no use for even the best Inhibitor; it might even kill her.

"This is the best Inhibitor there is." Kloer thought Gu Ning just didn’t know what it was, so he patiently explained its effects to her.

After listening, Gu Ning silently tucked the Inhibitor he offered her into her pocket.

Kloer still wanted to inject Gu Ning, but she quickly hid behind Seth.

Seth stuck out a paw to block Kloer for her.

Kloer couldn’t catch Gu Ning, and he couldn’t very well force her. He injected Seth with the Inhibitor instead. "Fine, we’ll wait for Alex to give you yours."

Seeing Gu Ning’s strong resistance to the Inhibitor, Cyril wondered, ’Does the little Mixed Breed only listen to Alex, or does she just not want the shot?’

He observed her discreetly. She looked smaller than the average Dwarf hybrid, but her temperament was unusually stable for a Mixed Breed.

Even after Leo’s outburst, she hadn’t shown any signs of manic behavior.

"Is the old lion going to see me or not! I’ve got patrol duty today."

"If you’ve got no other business with me, then untie me already!"

Leo’s voice echoed from the hallway outside.

"Please wait here. Alex should be discussing official business with the general."

Cyril tore his gaze away from the little Mixed Breed and went to deal with the annoying dog.

Gu Ning was getting antsy.

Kloer patted the spot next to him. "Just wait a little longer. The boss probably won’t be out for a while."

Seth gave her a reassuring nudge as well.

Gu Ning had no choice but to sit on the sofa. After just a few minutes, the cold became a little unbearable.

There was no heater here. Although she was dressed warmly, the current temperature of nearly twenty degrees below zero was no joke. Her only option was to huddle close to Seth for warmth.

Seth seemed to sense that Gu Ning was cold and leaned forward slightly, allowing her to press against him more easily.

Gu Ning decided to just hug his thick foreleg, burying her icy hands in the dense, warm fur of his armpit.

Seth had a faint puppy smell. You couldn’t usually notice it, but holding him this close, Gu Ning could smell it a little.

Kloer smiled at the sight of the two little wolves being so close, but he also felt a pang of jealousy. He’d looked after Little Gu Ning plenty of times, even giving her his most treasured jar of honey, yet she’d never been this affectionate with him.

’Little ingrate.’

Kloer grumbled internally, then closed his eyes to catch up on sleep.

With Gu Ning hugging him, Seth felt strangely nervous. His body stiffened, and he didn’t dare to move, only occasionally lowering his head to peek at her.

Unconsciously, Seth’s mind drifted back to the taste he’d gotten when he licked her fingers that morning.

He was fine when he wasn’t thinking about it, but the moment he did, he felt as if the scent was faintly lingering at the tip of his nose, and his mouth began to water profusely.

DRIP...

Gu Ning heard what sounded like a drop of water land on her hat. She looked up and saw a drooling little... wolf.

Seth lowered his head, met Gu Ning’s gaze, licked his lips, and then licked her hat clean.

Gu Ning heard his whimpering and thought it sounded like he was saying, ’Sorry, Little Boss.’

’He must be hungry,’ she thought. ’It seems like he hasn’t had breakfast yet.’

Just then, Cyril entered the room with a plate of pastries. He placed them on the coffee table in front of Gu Ning. "If you’re hungry, have something to tide you over."

Gu Ning picked up a pastry and offered it to Seth’s mouth.

Seth nudged her hand, motioning for her to eat it.

Gu Ning had experience feeding little dogs; she simply stuffed the pastry into the side of his snout.

Seth tasted her fingers again.

He started actively begging Gu Ning to feed him.

And so, Cyril witnessed what was, to him, a slightly bizarre scene.

The little Mixed Breed was holding food and feeding a bestialized Beastman. If he hadn’t known their identities, he would have suspected which one of them was actually the Mixed Breed.

’A Dwarf hybrid sharing food... that’s truly a rare sight.’

’I wonder if Alex trained her well, or if this little Mixed Breed’s personality is just naturally different from others of her kind.’

The plate of pastries was quickly fed to Seth by Gu Ning. Her hand was covered in his drool, so she just wiped it back onto his fur.

Seth couldn’t resist continuing to lick her hand. He hadn’t even registered what the pastry tasted like; all his attention was on Gu Ning’s hand.

Seeing this, Cyril brought them some more food. It was still a while before lunch, and the cafeteria wasn’t open yet.

Gu Ning saw the adjutant running back and forth to get them food, yet there was still no sign of Alex. She wrote a note and handed it to him.

Cyril paused, then took the note from her:

[When can Alex come?]

This was the first time Cyril had seen a Mixed Breed communicate with him like this, and he was slightly surprised. He read the text several times. The handwriting was neat enough, but the phrasing was a bit stiff, like a beginner’s.

"He’s in a meeting right now. It should be over before lunch. I came to check on you for him," Cyril said.

"If you can’t wait, Alex is just next door. You can go see him."

He turned to the side, indicating that Gu Ning could go with him to the meeting.

Gu Ning stared at him for a moment, then stood up.

Cyril’s eyes narrowed imperceptibly. He led her toward the conference room.

Seeing Gu Ning about to leave the room with Cyril, Seth smacked a paw on the soundly sleeping Kloer.

Kloer grunted twice and flopped right back onto the sofa, fast asleep.

"..."

Seth paid him no more mind and turned to follow Gu Ning.

Kloer had bear genes. Although he didn’t have to hibernate, he still got drowsy easily in the winter. He’d been so busy and tired lately that he took every possible chance to sleep.

"Alex is inside."

Cyril stopped at the door to the conference room and spoke to the little Mixed Breed behind him.

Gu Ning walked to the edge of the door.

The door was slightly ajar, not fully closed, and the low murmur of conversation drifted out from within.

Through the crack in the door, Gu Ning could vaguely make out the figures of several Beastmen inside.

Cyril stood to the side, simply observing the little Mixed Breed’s actions, neither pushing the door for her nor urging her on.

Gu Ning didn’t go in. She pressed against the door and listened for a moment, then shot a quick glance at Cyril before turning and heading downstairs without looking back.

Cyril paused for a second, then strode after her. "Where are you going?"

Gu Ning ignored him.

Cyril couldn’t very well block her path. He pulled over a subordinate, gave a few quiet instructions, and then followed behind the little Mixed Breed to see what she was up to.

Seth also followed closely behind Gu Ning. He could smell Alex’s scent in the conference room, but since Gu Ning didn’t go in, he didn’t make a sound.

Gu Ning reached the outside of the building.

The building she was in was in Zone A. From the exit, she could see the gate to the construction site.

Gu Ning took a breath of cold air and stepped into the snow.

The snow was almost up to her hips. Despite her caution, she still stumbled into the thick snowdrift.

Seth let out a little AWOO and gently took her shoulder in his mouth, trying to drag her out of the snow.

Cyril stood at the edge of the steps. Seeing the little Mixed Breed struggling in the snow, he just assumed she wanted to come out for some fresh air.

’Dwarf hybrids are never able to sit still.’

It was nearly impossible for Gu Ning to walk in such deep snow. She struggled forward a few steps before collapsing, exhausted, into a sitting position in the snow.

Seth was still trying to drag her backward. She helplessly patted his snout away from where it was clamped on her.

Seth also thought she just wanted to come out and play, so he stopped pulling her back and nudged her gently with his big head.

Gu Ning stared at the construction site in the distance, her breath puffing out in cold clouds.

The gate was so close. Normally, it was only a two or three-minute jog away, but right now, it felt so far.

’I have to leave today. I can’t keep causing trouble for Alex here. I also need to go back and check on Cook to feel at ease.’

Gu Ning gritted her teeth and stood up, ready to press on. Just then, Seth lay down in front of her, nudging her with his head toward his back.

Gu Ning froze for a second, then smiled and ruffled Seth’s head, grabbing his fur to climb onto his back.

Seth was just about to take off and play with Gu Ning in the snow for a while when she suddenly lay flat against his back.

He gently lowered his raised paw and began to move forward slowly through the snow.

Gu Ning scooted forward, grabbed one of Seth’s ears, and whispered softly, "Seth, to the gate."
