Chapter 275: Chapter: 274 Duel of mortals.[3]

Kavin swung the greatsword with every ounce of strength he could muster, the massive blade tearing through the air before crashing into the side of Masamune’s waist.

The Sword Demon reacted instantly. The flesh around the point of impact transformed into steel just before the strike landed.

A deafening metallic crash rang throughout the arena.

The edge of the greatsword bent and fractured under the resistance, chunks of metal breaking away from the blade.

However, Kavin’s eyes narrowed instead of widening in frustration. He had never expected the strike to cut deeply.

What mattered was the result. The steel-covered waist visibly dented inward from the force of the impact.

That alone proved the greatsword was capable of overwhelming the Steel Path’s defenses through sheer force.

Kavin’s grip tightened.

’I don’t have time.’

His core was already running dry.

Maintaining Future Sight alone consumed an enormous amount of mana and concentration.

Adding Mire of Time and Time’s Leap on top of that pushed his body far beyond its comfortable limits. Every second felt like holding a mountain on his shoulders.

His muscles and veins throbbed. Even his eyes felt as though molten needles were being pushed into them.

One spell was manageable...but two were exhausting...three simultaneously was madness.

He needed to end this fight now. Without hesitation, Kavin lunged forward once more while activating Future Sight.

The world shifted...a vision flashed through his mind.

In the next second, he would swing toward Masamune’s left thigh. The Sword Demon would react immediately, bringing the Honjo Masamune upward in a precise arc that would split the damaged greatsword in two.

The future vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.

Kavin acted.

The greatsword descended toward Masamune’s left thigh exactly as the vision had shown.

As expected, the Sword Demon moved.

The Honjo Masamune flashed upward, aiming to intercept the blade and destroy it completely.

However, Kavin had already prepared for that outcome.

"Mire of Time." Mana rippled outward.

"Two times slower."

The surrounding space seemed to thicken around Masamune. At the same moment, Kavin activated the second spell.

"Time’s Leap."

"Two times faster."

The difference was immediate. Masamune’s upward slash slowed.

Kavin accelerated. The damaged greatsword surged forward with explosive speed. The Honjo Masamune missed its opportunity to intercept.

A heartbeat later, the massive blade crashed into Masamune’s thigh.

Steel instantly covered the area. Yet this time, the defense wasn’t enough. The edge sank into the hardened flesh.

Only an inch...but an inch was enough.

A pained groan escaped Masamune’s mouth as blood seeped from the wound.

His body staggered backward.

For the first time since the battle began, genuine urgency appeared in his movements as he attempted to create distance.

Kavin immediately chased after him.

The moment he entered range, the greatsword swung again. The flat side of the blade smashed directly into Masamune’s other clavicle.

Steel appeared to reinforce the area. The impact still landed with terrifying force.

A heavy crack echoed through the arena as Masamune grimaced as the shock traveled through his body.

Before he could recover, however, Kavin attacked again. This time he targeted the injured thigh.

If he could cripple the leg completely, the fight would be over.

The greatsword descended.

Masamune watched it come.

And then something changed. Instead of defending the wounded thigh, the Sword Demon did nothing.

He simply waited.

The realization hit Kavin a fraction of a second later.

A trap.

The moment the greatsword committed to its path, its enormous weight would make immediate defense impossible.

Masamune had deliberately offered the thigh as bait.

The instant Kavin took it...the Sword Demon moved. The Honjo Masamune erupted forward like a streak of silver light.

The thrust was terrifying.

The blade shot toward Kavin’s throat with enough speed to kill most opponents before they even realized what had happened.

It was the perfect ambush.

Offer an opening...wait for greed to take hold. Then kill the opponent while they focused on the prize.

The sword and the greatsword raced toward their targets.

Only inches remained. A normal spellcaster would have died.

But Kavin wasn’t normal.

He had already seen it....the future had warned him. At the last possible moment, he abandoned the attack entirely.

Instead of completing the swing, he released the greatsword and stepped backward.

The Honjo Masamune pierced empty air. Masamune’s eyes widened slightly.

His perfect ambush had failed.

On the other hand, Kavin didn’t stop moving. His hands shifted into the familiar motion of a spear thrust.

At first glance, they appeared empty.

Then mana surged. A long, slender spear materialized in his grip. The weapon appeared so suddenly that Masamune barely had time to register its existence.

The spear shot forward as a wet sound echoed across the arena. The spearhead pierced straight through Masamune’s abdomen.

"What...?"

The Sword Demon looked down in disbelief. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

He hadn’t even managed to transform the impacted area into steel. Yet that wasn’t what shocked him.

What truly stunned him was something else. Throughout the entire battle, Kavin had been predicting him.

It had felt as though Kavin already knew exactly what he intended to do before he did it.

At first, Masamune had dismissed the feeling. Then he began noticing patterns.

Now he was certain.

The trap with the injured thigh had not been designed merely to wound Kavin.

It had been a test.

Masamune had deliberately sacrificed the opportunity to defend. He had deliberately exposed himself.

Then he had unleashed one of his fastest killing techniques.

A move that should have succeeded. Yet Kavin had avoided it effortlessly.

Not only that.

He had counterattacked immediately, there was only one explanation.

"So that’s how it is..."

Masamune coughed violently. Blood spilled from his lips as Kavin twisted the spear.

Pain exploded through his abdomen. His face tightened into a grimace. Yet strangely enough, a smile slowly appeared.

"So you have a spell that lets you see the future?" A low laugh escaped him.

The moment those words left his mouth, Kavin’s heart skipped a beat. For the briefest instant, panic flashed across his face.

He quickly suppressed it. His expression returned to its usual cold indifference. But the damage had already been done.

Masamune had seen enough. The Sword Demon chuckled again despite the spear lodged in his abdomen.

"You are far more troublesome than I expected." Kavin responded by twisting the spear once more.

Masamune winced in pain, yet the grin never disappeared...Instead, it widened further.

Slowly, deliberately, he reached forward and grabbed the shaft of the spear as his fingers tightened around it.

"You are treacherous."

"You know that?" Masamune’s grin became savage.

His voice echoed throughout the arena.

"Domain Manifestation."

The surrounding space distorted. The world itself seemed to shudder. Then the Sword Demon spoke the name of his domain.

"Duel of Mortals."

The moment those words left his mouth, a terrifying pressure erupted from his body and swept across the entire arena.
