Chapter 257: Chapter: 256 Terror of the ball crusher.[2]
"Ahhh... brutal."
Kavin grimaced and instinctively grabbed his lower body. A painful shiver ran through him as he stared at the arena.
That had to hurt.
No, hurt wasn’t even the correct word anymore. That kick had probably transcended pain and entered some entirely different realm of suffering.
His face twitched.
The horrifying cracking sound still echoed inside his mind.
Around the arena, countless male spectators seemed to share the same thoughts.
Many had subconsciously grabbed themselves as well, their expressions pale and traumatized. Some looked away from the unconscious Siefert entirely, as if simply looking at him caused psychological damage.
Kavin slowly turned toward Jasmine. The contrast nearly gave him emotional whiplash.
While an entire arena of men was silently mourning the destruction of Siefert’s future bloodline, Jasmine stood there completely unaffected.
She calmly inspected her fingernails as though she had merely stepped on an annoying insect while walking down a road.
Not a trace of guilt nor was there a trace of concern.
Nothing.
Meanwhile, the referee remained frozen in place.
The poor man stared at the Poison Monster, who was currently foaming at the mouth near the wall, his eyes rolled so far upward that only the whites remained visible.
The referee swallowed nervously.
For some reason, he felt incredibly grateful that he already had children. At his age, having someone to carry on the family line was important.
Watching what had happened to Siefert only strengthened that belief, who knew what might happen in the future....so it was better to be safe than sorry.
The old referee unconsciously took a few careful steps backward.
Meanwhile, Kavin finally released a breath and straightened his posture.
’Serves him right for eyeing my woman.’
The referee seemed to recover at roughly the same moment.
Clearing his throat several times, the old man forced himself to walk toward the center of the arena. His expression still looked somewhat shaken, but years of experience eventually won over his shock.
He raised his voice.
"The winner of the ranked duel..."
His gaze briefly drifted toward the unconscious Poison Monster before quickly moving away.
"...and the new Tenth Ranked Spell Caster..." A brief pause followed.
"...is Jasmine!"
The announcement echoed throughout the Grand Arena.
Silence answered him. The entire arena resembled a classroom after a teacher had suddenly announced an impossible exam.
No.
Even classrooms were probably louder than this.
Tens of thousands of spectators simply sat there staring at the unconscious Siefert.
Some wore expressions of disbelief, some wore expressions of horror.
Some looked deeply reflective, as though they had just discovered a profound truth about life.
The Poison Monster himself continued lying motionless against the wall.
Looking at him, many people couldn’t help feeling that something far more important than the match had just ended.
It seemed this was the conclusion of his manhood.
Meanwhile, Jasmine paid absolutely no attention to any of it.
She turned around and calmly walked back toward the waiting area. Her expression remained as blank as ever.
There was no excitement from winning. No pride from entering the Top Ten. No satisfaction after defeating a ranked veteran.
She looked exactly like someone who had just completed a routine morning chore before returning home.
Watching her approach, Kavin slowly shook his head.
"That’s why they say never mess with a woman."
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I don’t know who said that first, but they must’ve been a true scholar."
His eyes drifted toward the unconscious Poison Monster.
"Or someone with first-rate experience."
The more he thought about it, the wiser the saying seemed.
A chill slowly crawled up his spine.
"Damn..." Kavin swallowed. "I won’t ever look at another woman."
Knowing Jasmine, she would probably crush him first and heal him afterward just so she could repeat the process....The horrifying possibility felt entirely realistic.
By the time Jasmine stepped through the entrance, a faint smile had appeared on her face. Unfortunately, that smile didn’t comfort Kavin at all.
In fact, it somehow made things worse.
To him, it looked less like a happy smile and more like the smile of a devil who had successfully solved a minor inconvenience.
"W-well done, b-babe." His voice carried a slight tremble.
Jasmine simply nodded.
"Thanks."
She walked toward her seat and sat down casually.
A towel rested nearby.
Picking it up, she began wiping away the sweat that had accumulated during the fight.
Not that there had been much fighting.
As she moved the towel across her neck and collarbone, Kavin immediately turned his head away.
Fast...his movements were lighting fast.
He wasn’t suicidal. If Jasmine caught him staring, she might decide his eyes were unnecessary organs.
Of course, technically speaking, it was her body.
That wasn’t the issue. The issue was that neither of them currently possessed their original appearances.
The face she wore belonged to another woman. His face belonged to another man.
Because of that, they had long ago reached a rather strange agreement.
Or more accurately, Jasmine had made a declaration.
A terrifying declaration. Before they left, she had looked him directly in the eye and said:
"Before we leave, we won’t have anything like that."
Naturally, Kavin had been confused.
"But why?"
The answer had arrived immediately.
"Look at yourself."
She had pointed at him.
"Your face isn’t yours and mine isn’t mine."
Then she pointed at herself.
"So I’ll feel jealous and uncomfortable."
Kavin had opened his mouth. Unfortunately, Jasmine had already anticipated his response.
"Don’t give me that bullcrap about our souls being the same."
Her expression hadn’t changed at all.
"I don’t fucking care." Then she had delivered the final verdict. "Because soul or body, you only belong to me."
For some reason...
It actually made sense. At least enough sense that arguing with her felt genuinely dangerous. They shared the same soul, but not the same appearance... right?
And that whole "same soul" argument? He had heard that excuse plenty of times in his previous life. Every cheating bastard seemed to have a variation of it.
"Believe me, my soul only loves you."
Or something equally ridiculous.
Those people slept around with anyone who crossed their path, then expected that line to magically erase everything. If they weren’t whores or dogs humping anything that moved, what were they?
Then there was his own belief. Both the real Julius and the Julius inside this novel shared one stubborn trait—they looked down on people who kept changing partners as if relationships were disposable. So how in the world had he ended up agreeing to this?
He had completely lost his mind.
Just because of that.
A faint pang of shame crept into his chest. Ever since that day, he had gone out of his way not to even glance at any exposed skin.
Not that she gave him the chance.
The moment his eyes wandered somewhere they shouldn’t, she would beat him up without a second thought. Fortunately, avoiding getting beaten turned out to be a surprisingly effective source of self-discipline.
"Haah..."
Kavin released a long sigh and pushed those thoughts away.
His attention returned to the arena. The silence had finally disappeared. Now the audience had erupted into endless discussions.
Some insisted Jasmine had cheated somehow. Others immediately argued back that there was no such thing as fairness in a duel.
A fight was about survival.
If an opponent exposed a weakness, then exploiting it was simply common sense.
Meanwhile, a completely different group of spectators had become obsessed with another topic.
Money.
Specifically, how much money the mysterious lunatic who placed a million taels on Jasmine winning within three seconds had just earned.
Many faces looked jealous enough to kill.
Others looked physically ill. Several gamblers appeared moments away from tears.
Kavin smiled happily.
Three hundred million taels, a beautiful number....a truly beautiful number.
After staring at the arena for a while, he walked over and sat beside Jasmine. Part of him wanted to rest his head on her lap.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. Not right now....not until they returned to their original appearances.
Not until he was Julius and she was Rosalina again. With another sigh, he abandoned the idea and remained seated quietly.
The silence between them lasted only a few moments before Jasmine spoke.
"Have you prepared for your opponent?"
Kavin slowly looked toward the arena. The excitement of his victory, the gambling payout, and Jasmine’s match gradually settled.
Now it was his turn.
And his opponent was the Mountain Crushing Twin Fists.
A Light Path spell caster who, surprisingly, was extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat. Most spell casters preferred maintaining distance and overwhelming their opponents with techniques, but this particular lunatic seemed to enjoy punching people almost as much as casting spells.
Not that Kavin cared.
The fight should be easy enough. Once he used one of his trump cards, defeating the man within three seconds shouldn’t be difficult.
After all, spell casters at the Void Core Stage who hadn’t passed a Heavenly Trial weren’t much of a threat.
At least not compared to people like him and Jasmine.
They possessed inheritances.
Real inheritances.
The kind passed down through generations by monsters who had once stood at the peak of the world. Compared to that, ordinary geniuses were still ordinary.
A grin slowly appeared on Kavin’s face.
’It’s really fun being rich.’
Just thinking about the three hundred million taels he had already won improved his mood considerably.
At that moment, the referee’s voice echoed throughout the Grand Arena.
The crowd immediately quieted.
"Now then!"
The old referee raised his voice.
"After nineteen months and nineteen days, someone has finally challenged the Mountain Crushing Twin Fists!"
The announcement instantly drew the attention of every spectator. Many people straightened in their seats. Then the referee pointed toward Kavin’s entrance.
"And that challenger is..."
A brief pause followed.
"...Kavin!"
