Chapter 249: Chapter: 248 Saddened parents.[2]

"You have a lot of nerve, kid. Entering the lion’s den and intimidating its people."

The deep voice echoed throughout the underground hall like distant thunder.

Every word carried immense weight, and combined with the crushing pressure pouring from the speaker, it felt as though an invisible mountain had descended onto Kavin and Jasmine’s shoulders.

"Huh? Aren’t you going to answer?"

The pressure intensified. Kavin felt his muscles tense involuntarily as the weight pressed down on him from all directions making breathing became difficult.

Even drawing in air felt like forcing it through a narrow crack. Beside him, Jasmine’s face was growing paler by the second.

Their bodies trembled under the overwhelming pressure.

Neither of them spoke a single word. Instead, they bit down hard on the tips of their tongues.

The sharp pain spread through their mouths, followed by the metallic taste of blood.

The sudden burst of pain helped clear their minds and forced their trembling bodies to calm down.

Right now, fear was the last thing they wanted to display. Submission was even less acceptable.

Both of them understood exactly what was happening. The pressure wasn’t meant to kill them. It was intimidation, a test!

A stronger spellcaster was measuring them or rather, measuring their will.

Trying to see whether they would lower their heads when faced with someone stronger.

Unfortunately, he had chosen two of the worst possible people for such a test.

Kavin and Jasmine possessed many flaws....humility was not one of them.

Arrogance, however, was.

They had plenty of it.

Biting back the countless curses threatening to leave her mouth, Jasmine slowly turned toward the source of the voice. Kavin followed her movement without hesitation.

The moment they turned around, the pressure increased yet again.

The source of it finally entered their vision.

A man....a very large man to be more precise.

Kavin’s eyes widened slightly.

Despite standing close to seven feet tall, he still found himself straining his neck upward to properly look at the man’s face.

The figure before him resembled a walking fortress.

Massive muscles stretched beneath his clothes, making it seem as though his body had been carved from stone rather than flesh.

His skin carried a dark brown tone, weathered by countless years. A thick beard covered much of his lower face while long dark hair hung loosely around his forehead.

His ears were noticeably longer than those of ordinary Zlycons, hinting at how formidable his lineage must have been.

The man looked less like a manager and more like a monster that had wandered out of a battlefield.

Seeing him instantly reminded Kavin of Gulk, the strongest Revenger, from the comic books Rosel loved reading.

The comparison almost made him laugh.

However, he didn’t laugh.

A broad grin stretched across the giant’s face. Unlike his pressure, however, the smile carried no friendliness whatsoever.

"Well, kid?" the giant asked. His deep voice rolled through the hall like a drumbeat.

"You were asking for me, weren’t you?"

Kavin gritted his teeth.

The pressure continued pressing down on him relentlessly, but he refused to lower his gaze.

Beside him, Jasmine remained equally stubborn. Both of them stared directly into the giant’s eyes.

The giant stared back. Neither side showed any intention of backing down.

The atmosphere grew increasingly tense.

Killing intent slowly gathered between the three figures.

Neither Kavin nor Jasmine possessed the strength to match the giant before them, but their eyes contained not the slightest trace of fear.

Instead, they looked as though they wanted to tear him apart.

The giant seemed to appreciate that.

His grin widened. For several long moments, nobody moved.

The staring contest continued until a helpless sigh suddenly echoed from somewhere behind the giant.

"Haa..."

The soft voice instantly drew Kavin’s attention. Not because it was loud.

But because it sounded or rather read familiar. The manner of speaking, the tone.

Even the casual way she addressed the giant.

"Uncle Magnus, what are you even doing?"

Kavin immediately shifted his gaze past the giant. The moment he saw the owner of the voice, recognition flashed across his eyes.

A young woman stood there with a slight frown on her beautiful face.

She was absurdly beautiful.

Even Jasmine, who was attractive enough to draw attention anywhere she went, seemed slightly inferior in terms of pure appearance.

Her beauty was on the same level as Rosalina’s.

Long snow-white hair flowed gracefully down her back like silk. Her sun-kissed skin complemented her delicate features perfectly, giving her an almost unreal appearance.

Combined with her doll-like face and elegant bearing, she looked less like a spell caster and more like a fairy who had wandered into the mortal world.

A white robe draped around her slender figure while a crimson sash was tied neatly around her waist.

The contrast between white and red only made her stand out further. Kavin recognized her immediately.

Salena Sunborn. One of the ten heirs of the Sun Family.

A rare individual who had left a strong impression on him while reading the novel.

Crypian had attempted to approach her numerous times in the original story. Like many of the brain dead women around him, she possessed status, resources, and influence.

Unfortunately for him, Salena seemed to genuinely dislike him.

No matter what methods he tried, she remained cold and distant.

At the time, Kavin had found the situation extremely satisfying.

Since he already disliked the protagonist, anyone capable of rejecting Crypian automatically gained several points in his eyes.

In fact, one of the reasons he had come to this arena was because of her.

Forming an alliance with a Sun Family heir sounded infinitely more profitable than making enemies.

Resources, money, connections, all of those sounded wonderful.

"Uncle Magnus, at least ask them nicely," Salena said while rubbing her forehead. "Why are you being so rude?"

Her gentle voice snapped Kavin out of his thoughts. He immediately shifted his attention back toward Magnus.

The giant merely snorted.

Kavin straightened his back. The crushing pressure continued weighing down on him, but his expression remained as arrogant as ever.

He looked around the hall before speaking.

"My wife and I are here to challenge the arena." His voice carried clearly across the silent hall.

A moment later, a smirk filled with undisguised disdain appeared on his face.

His gaze swept across the surrounding participants.

Then he spoke the words that instantly caused countless expressions to darken.

"But there is barely anyone here who can match us."

The hall became even quieter than before.

If silence had a sound, it would have been this.

"Hmph!"

Magnus snorted coldly. His expression darkened with obvious dissatisfaction as he looked down at the two youngsters before him.

"You two are strong for your age, I’ll give you that, kid. But standing in my arena and insulting my people right in front of me? Have you thought about the consequences of that?"

His voice was grim and heavy, carrying not even the slightest hint of humor.

Kavin’s smirk only widened.

"You do realize there’s a slight difference between an insult and the truth?"

He let out a loud snort before pointing directly toward the two spellcasters who had been dueling in the arena moments ago.

"You call them spellcasters? Hmph! They’re nothing but trash."

Several spectators immediately glared at him.

Some of the fighters clenched their fists.

Even those who had remained silent until now felt irritation rising within them.

"Mind your tongue, boy."

Magnus’ eyes narrowed dangerously.

"I can snap that neck of yours before you even realize what’s happened."

The threat lingered heavily in the air as he continued speaking.

"Do you think everyone is born the same? Those people climbed to where they are through their own strength. Through their own effort. Don’t show disrespect to their hard work."

"Oh, please."

Kavin interrupted him without the slightest hesitation.

"If you call those measly achievements hard work, then I’m sorry, but you should get your eyes checked."

Before Magnus could respond, Kavin suddenly pointed toward Jasmine as though he were presenting the greatest treasure in the world.

"Here."

A proud grin spread across his face.

"That’s my wife, Jasmine."

Jasmine immediately lifted her chin.

Her hands settled confidently on her hips as she stood there looking immensely proud of herself, as though Kavin’s praise was nothing more than an obvious fact.

Kavin nodded approvingly before continuing.

"She can use every weapon in the arsenal. Swords, spears, daggers, axes, bows, staffs....just name it."

The confidence in his voice was absolute.

This time, however, Magnus actually showed interest. One of his brows rose slightly.

"Oh?"

His gaze shifted toward Jasmine. "She knows how to use every weapon?"

"Hmph!" Kavin folded his arms. "You haven’t seen my wifey fight."

The pride in his voice was so excessive that several people around them nearly rolled their eyes.

"If you want, let’s give it a try." Kavin pointed between himself and Jasmine before pointing at Magnus.

"Me and my wife versus you." A confident grin appeared on his face.

"And if we win, we’ll be directly placed at the fourth and fifth ranks."

His eyes gleamed with challenge.

"So, how does that sound?"
