Chapter 310: A Contract in the Dark

A Contract in the Dark

There happened to be a public restroom nearby, and the two rushed in to wash themselves thoroughly with a hose.

The freezing stream of water blasted over their clothes and skin.

Steffan stood beneath the hose first, gritting his teeth as he scrubbed the stains from his body. The water quickly turned muddy, washing away dirt, blood, and the disgusting filth that had clung to him throughout the sewer escape.

White Ghost wasn’t much better.

He desperately rinsed his hair again and again, muttering under his breath.

"I swear... if I ever see another sewer in my life, I’m walking the other way."

Steffan didn’t answer.

His face remained gloomy.

The bullet wound in his shoulder still throbbed, and every movement tugged painfully at the knife wound on his backside.

Tonight had been nothing but humiliation.

He silently vowed to make someone pay.

Just then, two young men came to use the restroom.

The pair chatted casually as they walked inside.

"Did you see the football match earlier?"

"Yeah, unbelievable finish—"

Their voices suddenly stopped.

The smell lingering in the restroom made both wrinkle their noses.

Seeing the two reeking individuals.

The young men cast disdainful glances at them.

One pinched his nose.

"What the hell..."

The other frowned.

"Did you two fall into a sewer or something?"

Those words became the final spark.

Filled with pent-up anger, Steffan rushed forward and punched each of them.

Bang!

Bang!

The punches landed almost simultaneously.

Neither young man had time to react.

Their eyes rolled back as they collapsed unconscious onto the wet floor.

White Ghost stared for a second.

"...Boss."

"What?"

"I think you hit them a little too hard."

Steffan snorted.

"They’ll wake up."

"Eventually."

Without wasting another second, the two dragged the unconscious men into an empty stall.

After knocking them out, he and White Ghost quickly stripped the young men of their clothes and changed into them.

Fortunately, the sizes were close enough.

Steffan exchanged his filthy clothes for a clean black hoodie and jeans.

White Ghost changed into a gray jacket and dark pants.

They also rinsed their faces repeatedly until they no longer looked like they had crawled out of a sewer.

Steffan glanced into the cracked restroom mirror.

Although the wounds remained hidden beneath the clothes, at least they no longer looked like fugitives covered in sewage.

White Ghost searched their old clothes.

A few seconds later, his face stiffened.

"...Boss."

Steffan looked over.

"What now?"

"Our phones..."

Steffan immediately checked his pockets.

Nothing.

He suddenly remembered.

During the chase through the Ashbourne mansion and the alleyways, both of their phones had fallen somewhere along the way.

Whether they had broken or been picked up no longer mattered.

White Ghost sighed.

"No wonder we couldn’t find them."

"Forget it."

Steffan’s expression remained cold.

"They’re gone."

"Boss, what do we do now?"

With the plan in shambles, White Ghost asked in confusion.

Everything had gone wrong.

Their allies had turned into enemies.

They had been chased across half the city.

They had hidden inside a sewer.

Now they didn’t even have phones.

Steffan lowered his eyes for several seconds before speaking.

"Let’s head to an internet cafe first. I need to contact the Queen and have her take care of that Julian D’Aurelius."

Steffan gritted his teeth.

Every failure traced back to one person.

Julian D’Aurelius.

Ever since that young man had appeared, nothing had gone according to plan.

He realized that the root of all this chaos was that Julian D’Aurelius pulling strings behind the scenes.

That guy was powerful and not easy to deal with.

His strength...

His intelligence...

Even his luck seemed abnormal.

But no matter, he’d have the Queen, ranked second on the assassin list, take action!

A cold smile finally appeared on Steffan’s face.

No matter how talented Julian was...

A professional assassin was an entirely different threat.

The Queen wasn’t part of the Obsidian Wing organization, but her strength was undeniably formidable.

She belonged to another mysterious underground force known throughout the dark world simply as the Dark Web.

Within that hidden network, contracts worth millions changed hands every day.

The Queen was one of its greatest legends.

And her mission success rate was one hundred percent!

Many Gold Realm experts had perished at her hands!

No one knew her real identity.

No one knew her age.

No one even knew whether "Queen" was a title or a name.

The only thing the underground world agreed upon was simple.

If the Queen accepted a contract...

The target almost never survived.

Steffan and White Ghost quietly left the public restroom through the back entrance.

Keeping their heads lowered, they avoided crowded streets before eventually finding a small twenty-four-hour internet cafe tucked between two aging buildings.

The glowing sign buzzed softly in the night.

Most customers inside were immersed in online games.

No one paid attention to the two exhausted newcomers.

Steffan paid cash for a computer.

After sitting down, he quickly entered a series of encrypted addresses that ordinary browsers couldn’t access.

Several security verification windows appeared one after another.

Password.

Verification code.

Identity key.

Encrypted authentication.

Only after completing every step did a dark webpage finally appear.

At the center of the screen...

A silver crown floated against a black background.

Below it were countless assassination contracts from around the world.

Steffan ignored them all.

He selected a private communication channel.

After waiting nearly a minute...

A single line appeared.

Queen: State your business.

Steffan’s eyes narrowed.

His fingers quickly typed.

Target: Julian D’Aurelius.

Highest priority.

He attached the available information before waiting for a reply.

The screen returned to silence.

White Ghost remained standing behind him.

Neither spoke.

The internet cafe buzzed quietly around them, completely unaware that an assassination request had just been submitted.
