Chapter 41: Crestellan Empire

The Carrion Household was located in the North side of the Crestellan Empire. Its fief was owned and controlled by Marquis Robert, who was responsible for fending off invaders on the North.

Of course, that duty was currently overseen by Chloe, who had done a perfect job so far.

Had it not been for Chloe, the Marquis wouldn’t have been free enough to remain in the household and attend Royal Court once every month.

Knock Knock!

"Who is it?" Ray asked and canceled Lancelot’s summon. The Necromancer skill was indeed broken. They could be summoned and unsummoned at will.

The best part was?

It didn’t cost him mana to sustain them. Other necromancers had the weakness of losing their summons once their mana ran dry, but not for him.

About time he gets something broken and does not get nerfed.

[It’s a reward for you in passing the prologue safe and sound!]

’Yeah yeah, thank you for the mercy system.’ He didn’t plan on arguing with them this time.

The threat of ending his own life should only work once. Even if he wanted to attempt to threaten in a similar fashion, it cannot be used until a very long time.

With Lancelot’s summon canceled, Ray permitted Belva to enter.

"What is it this time?" He asked in a somewhat annoyed tone.

His previous action of thrashing Jake had spread within the household.

Needless to say, the truth was revealed, and everyone was speechless.

Although Ray didn’t lie about the story, he sure knew how to twist the story somewhat and omitted some of the key details.

Michelle was also left fuming when she had whacked her son heavily from the incident. She didn’t complain to the Lord about Ray’s conduct though.

Instead, she was lamenting at herself for having so little trust in her son, Jake.

But then again, Jake’s record wasn’t exactly clean.

They did learn one thing from this incident. Ray was a shrewd bastard who knew his way around in speech.

Even the Lord praised him for being eloquent.

Of course, there was still a reprimand and that was to not pull such a prank on Jake again.

"For your conduct, the Lord has said you qualified to enter the Crestellan Academy." Belva said.

"I refuse!" Ray instantly replied.

Academy?

What a sick joke was that?

In his old world, he studied hard, only to end up being a crippled. All the knowledge he learned in school amounted to nothing. It wasn’t even helpful to the actual real world appliances.

And now that he was brought forth to a novel world, they want him to study at an academy again?

Get out!

"It is not a suggestion, Young Master Ray." Belva clarified. "The Lord said if you don’t attend, you would lose the protection."

"..."

Without needing her to spell it aloud, the protection naturally referred to his status.

Currently, nobody dared to touch him or even harm him because of the Marquis’s authority.

However, the moment Robert retracted his authority and gave a green light, his life would probably be over in a matter of seconds.

Even with Belva on his side and Lancelot, they could only stall a little bit before his inevitable end.

’That old bastard is really forcing me to go to the academy.’ Ray was beyond frustrated.

As a former avid fan of the novel, the Crestellan Academy was like the golden age and a major foundation, especially for the protagonist William.

It was there where his strength was acknowledged and received many allies.

After all, the students who were going to attend this academy’s semester were all monsters in their respective zones.

Of course, there were villainous types too.

Strong villains—people who could literally bring ruin to the world he lived in.

The worst part of it all?

These academy professors were mere decorations in all arcs that required them to literally help fight!!!

’Fuck, if I attend, I’d just become a cannon fodder.’ Ray refused to be dragged into the main storyline no matter what.

And no, it wasn’t him trying to avoid changing the storyline, but him trying to avoid dealing with their ’student life problem’ that escalated into boss battles each time.

"This is your admission letter." Belva ignored his usual complaining behavior and placed the letter on the table.

"By the way, Young Master Jake and Skyler, alongside Young Miss Jeanette and Skylar will also attend the academy later on. It’s just that they’ll be in the second year while you’re in the first year."

The Crestellan Academy had a total of six semesters.

The first 4 years were about learning the fundamentals and finding your desired path. The remaining 2 years were practical where students would actually be deployed to actual missions under instructors.

Of course, that was just a brief summary. Throughout each semester, there would always be a major arc, followed by a big battle.

Why was that?

It was so that the main protagonist could improve and have his plot armor thickened.

’I want to quit.’ Ray was determined to quit.

...

Two days later

"Have a safe journey, Master!" Skyler called out and waved his hand.

In the meantime, Ray lay like a dead corpse inside the carriage en route to the Crestellan Empire.

"Do you know how many would die for an opportunity to attend the Crestellan Academy?" Belva twitched her lips.

"Give it to them then." Ray rolled his eyes and glanced at her.

"Are you sure you’re going to be fine accompanying me to the academy? I could have Father assign me a new maid or servant instead." He then asked in a low but subtle tone.

Belva’s tragic background originated precisely at the Crestellan Academy.

"Those nobles who treated me as such had long graduated." Belva smiled melancholy. Nevertheless, there contained traces of gratitude to Ray, who was clearly concerned about her mentality.

The others wouldn’t have even bothered with someone like her.

’A maid status was only a bit better than the slaves being sold publicly on the street.’ She thought to herself.
