Chapter 137: The Grefos’ Mad Game
John Moscow stood up so violently his leather armchair screeched against the floor, the sound cutting through the stunned silence like a serrated blade. His face was a mask of disbelief as he stared at the older Alpha.
"What the hell do you think you are doing, Guron?!" John roared, his fists clenching at his sides. "Are you out of your mind?! Have you lost your goddamn senses, old man?! Have you suddenly forgotten just how important this marriage alliance is to your own company?! We are talking about the undisputed future of Gammar Tech! You don’t just stand there and throw away a multi-billion credit merger because of a whim!"
Guron didn’t even blink. He stood with his hands loosely clasped behind his back, his posture radiating the unshakeable composure of a man who had ruled the corporate districts for decades. His eyes were perfectly flat, reflecting absolutely none of John’s explosive fury.
"Of course I have not forgotten the corporate implications, John," Guron replied, his voice a low, smooth baritone that seemed to absorb the frantic energy of the room. "I know exactly what the numbers look like. I just thought about it long and hard. My son has been stalling this arrangement for three years for a very simple reason: he does not love Joanne. He has spent every single day of this engagement trying to see if he could somehow force his heart to fall in love with your daughter, but he simply has not. And I am no longer willing to wait for the impossible."
"Love?!" John let out a harsh, barking laugh that dripped with condescension. He took a step forward, his chest heaving as he pointed a trembling finger at Guron’s chest. "This arrangement had absolutely nothing to do with love, you old fool! It was based entirely on business! It was a transaction to consolidate our power! Since when did the ruthless Grefo family start crying about love?!"
John swung his arm around, his wild gaze sweeping across the lounge until it landed on Damian Boren, who was still standing protectively beside Jannah in the corner.
"Look at what your family has become, Guron!" John spat, his voice laced with disgust. "The Grefo name has changed so drastically that you even allow a filthy Mafia’s son into your private residence! You are harboring the underbelly of this city under your roof! And here you are, ready to break a monumental, ironclad deal that could elevate your entire corporate lineage, all for some pathetic emotional nonsense?!"
Guron’s eyes narrowed into slits, his voice dropping. "There is absolutely no need to permanently sacrifice my son’s lifetime happiness for the sake of a single company, John. A corporation can be rebuilt, expanded, and fortified through alternative means. My son’s lineage cannot."
John stared at him, his mouth slightly open as he shook his head in disbelief. This was the exact same man who had sought the Moscow family out three years ago, the one who had practically engineered the contract to bind their families together. Hearing him break it down so casually felt like a betrayal of the highest order. "I don’t believe a single word coming out of your mouth," John whispered fiercely. "The very man who begged for this alliance is now tearing it apart with his own hands."
Dyesebel Moscow stepped forward, her expensive diamond bracelets clinking sharply as she injected her own venom into the confrontation. "Don’t you people care about Joanne’s feelings at all?!" she shrieked, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, protective maternal rage. "My daughter has fallen for Dorrent! She has dedicated three years of her youth to being his perfect, loyal fiancée! She loves him!"
Dorrent slowly shifted his weight on the sofa, his gaze lifting to meet Dyesebel’s frantic eyes. His voice was completely devoid of warmth. "I am truly sorry about that, Mrs. Moscow. But I cannot change the biology of my heart. I cannot force myself to be a better man to her when there is absolutely nothing inside me that beats for her."
John’s chest heaved as he looked between Guron and Dorrent, his mind desperately searching for the hidden trap, the real motivation behind this sudden, suicidal corporate move.
"What is so important that the two of you decided to execute this madness behind our backs?!" John demanded, his voice echoing off the ceiling. "Or... is it truly for the sake of that pathetic housemaid, just like Joanne has been screaming?!"
John snapped his head around, his lethal glare locking onto Jannah’s small form. "Tell me the truth, Guron! Has your precious S-tier son by any chance fallen for a common servant from the gutters?!"
A suffocating silence descended upon the room. Joanne held her breath, her eyes burning into her father’s back, desperately waiting for the denial that would restore her sanity. Damian’s grip on Jannah’s shoulder tightened slightly, his instincts instantly flaring as he sensed the trap closing in.
Guron took a slow step forward, his gaze drifting over to Jannah before returning to lock dead onto John Moscow’s face.
"Yes," Guron delivered ruthlessly, the words dropping like a massive, shattering anvil into the center of the lounge. "And she is already pregnant with Dorrent’s child."
Boom.
The revelation felt like a physical shockwave, ripping the remaining air out of the room.
Jannah’s breath caught in her throat. Her dark eyes widened to the size of saucers, her body freezing as the world seemed to tilt beneath her feet. Pregnant?! the word roared in her mind, a frantic, screaming denial echoing through her skull. No... no, that’s impossible! I can’t be pregnant! She clutched her casted arm to her chest, her heart hammering so against her ribs.
Every single pair of eyes in the room converged on her small, terrified figure.
Joanne Moscow looked at Jannah with a sudden hatred so deep and venomous it looked almost demonic. Her face twisted into a mask of humiliation. Her mind was a frantic, chaotic storm of horrific confusion. How?! Joanne thought, her nails digging into her palms. How could Dorrent have managed to impregnate this dirty gutter rat in only a few months of her staying here?! For three long years, Dorrent has never made love to me with his cock! He has never fully laid with me, only ever using his pathetic fingers and his tongue to touch my body ! No... no, it can’t be true! He couldn’t have given her what he denied me!
Damian Boren stood frozen beside Jannah, his eyes widening in surprise before narrowing into slits. He looked down at the shock painted all over Jannah’s pale face. As her personal doctor, the man who had examined her system and monitored her health for days, he knew with certainty that she was not pregnant. His mind raced, his eyes shifting back to Guron’s stoic face. What kind of sick, twisted games are the Grefos playing right now? Damian thought, his jaw locking tight. They are using her as a shield to break a corporate contract.
Jannah’s mind was spinning out of control. She wanted to scream, to open her mouth and tell everyone that it was a disgusting lie. She knew exactly what the Grefos were doing. They had fabricated this entire, horrific pregnancy story right on the spot just to permanently alienate Joanne’s parents, to force the Moscow family to walk out of the estate and accept the annulment. But the suffocating weight of Guron’s dominant authority kept her vocal cords paralyzed.
The moment the devastating words processed in Dyesebel’s mind, her pride shattered into a million pieces. She let out a disgusted hiss, her face turning white with revulsion. She snatched her designer handbag from the side table, stepping forward and grabbing Joanne’s hand with a crushing grip.
"Let’s leave this confused family this instant, Joanne!" Dyesebel screamed, her voice shaking with fury as she began to forcefully drag her daughter toward the exit. "Come with me right now! I am done with this crazy, pathetic family! They are absolute degenerates!"
John Moscow stood frozen for a single, agonizing second, his eyes burning holes into Guron’s face, before he let out a snarl. He turned on his heel, his footsteps pounding against the floor as he followed his wife toward the grand doors. "This alliance is over!" John roared over his shoulder. "Gammar Tech will burn for this insult, Guron! We are done!"
"Wait! John, Dyesebel, please stop!" Himelda Grefo cried out, her elegant facade completely fracturing as she took a desperate step forward, her hands reaching out into the empty air to try and stop the furious retreat. She looked like she was about to faint from the catastrophic weight of the broken merger. "Please, let’s just sit down and talk about this! Don’t leave like this!"
But the Moscows didn’t listen to a single shred of her pleading. They continued to march out of the lounge.
Joanne was being dragged forcefully by her mother’s tight grip, her shoes clicking against the floor as she struggled against the momentum, her eyes locked dead onto Jannah’s frozen face until the very last second.
"Mother, please listen to me! Stop!" Joanne shrieked desperately, her voice echoing back into the lounge with panic as the doors began to close. "It’s not true! I know it’s not true! That filthy housemaid is not pregnant!"
