Chapter 2: A New Threat
Evan throwed punches on every half dead that came close to him, sending their heads flying.
Sweat was dropping from his forehead and he was breathing heavily.
He did not hesitate killing the half deads like he did previously.
Previously, the half deads were attacking him individually however, this time they came in a horde.
’Wait,didn’t these creatures lack intelligence or perhaps someone is controlling them.’
’No,I guess I am overthinking to be honest.’
Evan seeing the horde of the half deads ran in a zig-zag style eliminating the half deads one by one.
But one of the half deads grabbed him by his feet and bit on it.Evan quickly pulled his leg but did not worry as he had now experienced that a little bite did not do much damage.

Said the system to Evan, as it had previously.
Evan punched until he finally killed every single half dead,and as soon as he did, the system appeared again.
He had used all of his strength while killing these half deads,now he did not even had the strength to stand up and walk.

’Oh my God I feel myself getting even more stronger.’, Evan said to himself.

As soon as he reached level 2 a new section opened in the system that said ’SKILLS’.
He willed In his mind and the skills section opened

’Well the level I am on is enough to save humanity, to be honest.’
However, he soon felt a strong disturbing aura coming from his back side, he looked and saw a half dead.
But this was not like normal ones, it had long white hairs, one Scarlet and one white eye. And it did not make the usual sounds of half deads, rather it was observing Evan.

’Do not tell me this guy is even stronger.’, Evan said making a disturbing face.
The ground beneath Evan’s feet was soaked with blood, making every step he took unstable.
His breathing grew heavier, every time he breathed it felt like someone was putting knives in his lungs that were both sharp and heavy.
Yet he refused to slow down. His arms felt like old heavy axes that had no use, but he forced them to move, otherwise the consequences would not be so pleasant.
Every second stretched endlessly, and the fear of death lingered at the edge of his mind.
Evan’s eyes,which clearly showed anger and tiredness, locked onto the Captain Half Dead.
’So this is the guy who was controlling those half deads.’
’Seems interesting.’
For a moment, neither of them moved, the captain of the half deads was observing him while, Evan was trying to regain his stamina.
The air between them grew heavier each second.
Unlike the mindless creatures from before, this one did not rush forward. It simply stood there, staring at him,studying him, as if it had intelligence to some extent.
The creature tilted its head slightly, its mismatched eyes, one scarlet, one pale white, glinting under the moonlight that granted the half deads more power.
The captain of the half deads took a step forward slowly.
Evan instinctively stepped back.
His body was already exhausted from the previous fight. His arms felt heavy, his legs unstable. Even though the system had healed his wounds, the fatigue remained.
’Damn it, it firstly made me loose my stamina so he could fight me easily I think.’
The Half Dead Captain suddenly disappeared as if he had vanished into thin air.
’He is too fast!’, Evan said to himself
Before he could react, a fist slammed into his stomach, sending him flying backward.
’Ugh!’
Evan crashed into the ground, rolling several meters before stopping. He spitted blood out of his mouth.
Meanwhile,Pain exploded through his body.

He coughed, struggling to get up.
’What the hell was that.’
The Captain stood where Evan had been a second ago, its arm still slightly extended. Its expression remained blank, but its eyes they were still focused.
Evan clenched his teeth and forced himself up.
’If I get hit like that again I would be worse than dead meat.’
The Captain of the Half Deads moved again.
This time, Evan was ready.
He twisted his body at the last second, barely dodging the incoming strike. The ground beneath him cracked from the force.
’This strength is too much, it is even stronger than me in terms of physical strength’
Evan countered immediately, throwing a punch toward its head,hoping it would do some damage.
The Captain leaned slightly to the side and dodged like it was nothing.
Evan’s fist cut through empty air.
’It dodged?!’
Before he could react, a kick slammed into his right side.
Evan was sent flying again, crashing hard onto the ground, spitting blood again.

’Damn it!’
He forced himself up again, breathing heavily.
This wasn’t like before, when he defeated those Half Deads easily.
It was not even close, it was beyond comparison.
The previous Half Deads were predictable, they were slow and easy to defeat.
This one was fighting, thinking and learning.
Evan could feel that the captain of the Half Deads did not have intelligence like humans, it was not even close to humans but even this much intelligence could cause many deaths.
Evan wiped the blood from his mouth and steadied himself.
’Calm down, observe it, think what he is doing.’
The Captain walked toward him again, step by step.
Showing no wasted movement.
Evan narrowed his eyes.
’It’s waiting for me to attack.’
He thought of a plan in his mind, he rushed forward to attack the captain.
The Captain reacted instantly, throwing a punch toward him.
But this time, Evan didn’t dodge.
Instead, he stepped into the attack.
The punch grazed his shoulder, and Evan’s fist connected.
The Captain’s head snapped to the side as Evan’s punch landed cleanly.
’One!’
Evan didn’t stop with just one. He followed up with another punch, and another.
But the Captain recovered quickly. It grabbed Evan’s arm mid-strike. Evan’s eyes widened in terror and disbelief.
’Crap’
The Captain pulled him in and slammed its knee into his stomach.
’Ugh!’
Evan gasped as the air left his lungs.
Then, the captain threw him to the ground again.

Evan lay there for a moment, staring at the sky.
’This is bad’
He pushed himself up slowly, his body was screaming in pain now.
The Captain stood a few meters away, watching him.
’Hehehe... you’re enjoying this, aren’t you?’
It did not respond like Evan expected.
Evan clenched his fists.
’Punch it 20 times.’
’That’s the quest.’
’No need to think too high,just hit it.’
’I don’t need to overpower it.’
’I just need to land hits.’
The Captain moved again, Evan rushed forward as well.
This time, instead of aiming for heavy blows, he focused on speed.

He immediately stepped back, dodging the counterattack.
Another quick strike,
’Three!’
The Captain’s movements grew slightly sharper.
As if it were adapting to Evan’s movements.
’It is learning.’
Evan’s heartbeat quickened.
This wasn’t just a fight ,it was a race.
Whoever adapted faster would win.
Evan circled around it, looking for openings.
The Captain lunged, Evan ducked and delivered another hit to its ribs.
’Four!’
A claw grazed his arm.
[ HP: 10 / 30 ]
Pain shot through him.
But he didn’t stop and delivered another punch.
’Five!’
The Captain suddenly grabbed his collar and slammed him into the ground.
The ground fractured beneath him.

Evan coughed, blood spilling from his mouth.
His vision blurred for a second.
’This is insane’
The Captain raised its hand in attempt to finish him.
Evan’s eyes sharpened.
’Not yet!’,said Evan grinting his teeth
He rolled to the side just in time.
The strike hit the ground instead, creating a small crater.
Evan forced himself up again.
His legs trembled,his breathing was uneven,but his eye were burning.
’Six’
He smiled faintly.
’This is getting fun’
The Captain paused for a fraction of a second. Then it attacked again faster than before.
Evan dodged barely, and countered.
’Seven!’
’Eight!’
’Nine!’
Each hit brought him closer while each mistake brought him closer to death.

Evan staggered back.
’Just a little more...’
The Captain’s aura still felt overwhelming and blood thirsty
It rushed him with an even more increased speed.
’It’s getting serious now’, said Evan to himself.
