Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Home
"Sir, where do you want to go?" Victor asked.
After some hesitation, Rex replied, "let's go home, you should know where I live, right?"
"Of course, Sir, as qualified bodyguards it's only natural that we have all of our employer's information and William had already briefed us all about you on our way here."
Oh, Rex raised his eyebrows with a hint of admiration, he was just saying this casually, he hadn't expected him to be so meticulous.
It seems like it's the right decision to leave him in charge, and he can live comfortably as a hands-off shopkeeper.
As a company rewarded by the system he didn't have to worry about loyalty, as their loyalty was guaranteed by the system, otherwise he wouldn't be able to entrust his life to them.
Ha has full trust on system because even if system wanted to harm, it doesn't need to do in such a roundabout way. Systems has thousands of ways let him die without even knowing. As he couldn't possibly resist, heck even the whole world can't resist.
Knowing how advanced the system is, it must have been product of some advance civilization or gods. Who knows.
But He doesn't have to fear or anything as according to all the data this system is basically under his control and without him it can't influence the world. And it's completely bound to him.
So, he doesn't have to worry about systems uprising or plotting his death.
As the car started and gradually sped on the road, he couldn't help admiring the beauty of this city of angels.
Sun was shining high in the sky, air thick and heavy due to humidity, the occasional cool Pacific breeze with a salty smell offered a fleeting respite, like a gentle caress against the skin.
Distant glass buildings look like mirrors hung in the air, shimmering due to sunlight.
Palm trees sway languidly casting long shadows on the sidewalks. And the Azure sky was looking particularly clear.
As the car drove, constant roar of traffic, voices of people talking and thumping bass of distant clubs impacted the ears, representing the perfect tapestry of urban life.
Billboards loomed overhead. Constantly reminded about the next big Netflix show, a blockbuster movie about to release, an influencer's tequila brand, famous celebrities promoting big brands.
On the sidewalks, tourists in shorts and floral shirts snapping selfies against street art murals, Influencers doing photoshoots on the streets, oblivious to the heat.
The fragrant blooms of jasmine and honeysuckle fill the nose with the occasional smell of street foods like tacos from the food vendors.
At red light, you can see various cars mingling together from most common cars like Toyota to red Ferraris, beastlike convertibles, latest Rolls-Royce with tinted windows hiding whoever sat inside, and of course handsome old man in beach shirts wearing stylish glasses with beauties in bikinis in vintage car.
Beyond the symphony of urban noises, one can see hazy green Hollywood Hills that seem to be stretching to eternity with mansions lining up like the domain of God overlooking the city of mortals.
And HOLLYWOOD sign stood high in the mountains constantly reminding that dreams and bodies are always for sale here. Hollywood, a veritable holy place for practitioners in the entertainment industry.
Thinking about this, he couldn't help sighing with complex emotion on his face, the emotions even he didn't know.

But soon his thoughts were interrupted as the car reached the gated community, with huge gates, high walls and strict security separating it from the hustle and bustle of the cityscape.
But seeing the bodyguards and armored Lincoln, the security guard let them pass without stopping.
Bel-Air, an affluent residential neighborhood nestled in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains on the westside of Los Angeles, provides hilly terrain that offer stunning view and a sense of seclusion.
Through winding roads and lush greenery, they soon reached their destination,
"1420 Bellagio Terrace, Bel-Air, CA 90077"
The house of his previous self where he lived with his parents.
Before Victor could open the door, he got out of the car and ordered them to go away.
Hearing this they just looked at each other with bitterness and backed away without saying anything.
Seeing a two-story house with classic Californian architectural style, he couldn't help breathing heavily, memories of his parents surged like a tide, and he remembered all the happy, sad, exciting, depressing all kinds of times they spent together in this house.
Unknowingly tears started flowing from his eyes and became blurry.
Despite constantly reminding himself that it was just the memories of his previous self, not his own, he couldn't shake off these strong emotions as if they had been engraved in his soul.
After reminiscing for a long time, he finally composed himself again and suppressed those emotions along with memories in the depth of his soul again.
Opening the wrought iron gates with keys he got from under a rock, a large driveway welcomed him, with ample space to park 2 to 3 cars and a lush green lawn, rustling of leaves and chirping birds entered his ears.
After enjoying the peace and tranquility for a while, he looked towards the house.
It had a beige brick facade with a traditional pitched roof, giving it a warm and homely vibe.
Large well-maintained gardens, with various plants and flowers like jasmine, rose and honeysuckle filled the air with refreshing scent and freshness.
As he unlocked the door, the sound seemed to echo in the empty house, and a wave of cold stale air washed over him.
As he stepped inside, the silence seemed to weigh on him as he felt a physical ache in his chest.
Only after constantly reminding himself that these memories aren't his, that he somehow returned to normal.
Even though he was already familiar with every nook and cranny, it was a different feeling seeing all of this with your own eyes.
A large foyer leads to a spacious living room with a cozy fireplace.
The interior of the house is spacious and light-filled, with large windows allowing natural light to flood in.
It has 4 bedrooms with attached washrooms, a large dining hall, a library, an audio-visual room where they used to watch movies together and a wine cellar where his father stored his favorite wines.
Passing through the empty living room without any sign of life, he couldn't help sigh.
His eyes stayed in the room of his parents for a moment and couldn't help losing focus, imagining they were still inside and would come out any second and question him where he had spent the night.
Shaking his head fiercely, he removed those thoughts from his mind.
And climbed the stairs leading to his room on the 2nd floor.
It was a warm yellow room with posters of various known and unknown bands and movies that he had carefully collected, a comfortable single bed, a purple worn-out bean bag and a guitar in the corner.
Sunshine streaming in from a large window facing the back garden, illuminating the cluttered desk with various books and a gaming computer.
There was still some dirt on the desk as he hadn't been to the house for a while.
He had been avoiding coming here as every piece and place reminded of the painful memories he wanted to forget.
He took a deep breath and calmed down all the thoughts swirling inside his head.
And lay down directly on the bed, even though the bed wasn't dirty, it wasn't clean either, but he couldn't care less about that right now.
He curled up on the bed and couldn't help lost in the memories again, memories of his past life as an orphan, being ostracized and bullied for not having parents, the days he slept starving, the days when he was sick but with no one to care, shivering in the cold winters, and sweltering in the hot summer.
And his present life, happy memories of being raised with love and care, without ever starving, with parents to take care when he fell ill and protect when he was bullied.
Memories of both past and present contrasting and seemingly trying to overwhelm each other.
Just as he was about to lose himself in the memories, He seemed to hear system's voice.

Just then Rex's body suddenly stiffened as if his soul had been taken away.
And he suddenly appeared in a snow-white place, the whiteness seemed to be stretched infinitely in all directions, and the silence was absolute. He was aware of himself, but the weight of the memories still pressed on his consciousness, leaving him disoriented.
Just then, a soft, golden glow flickered before him. From the formless void, a figure emergedāhe appeared, that's right it was the previous owner of his body.
They stared at each other for a while, he didn't know what to say and the other party also kept silent.
Rex's breath caught in his throat. "Whoā? Are you me?" he asked, his voice trembling.
The other Rex nodded; his expression unreadable. "Yes, and no. I am the past that you now inherit.
Hearing this Rex was stunned and didn't know how to respond.
"You don't have to worry, it's not the real me, it's just the amalgamation of my memories."
Let's have a heartfelt conversation to understand and to move forward."
Hearing this, Rex just nodded, and they both started sharing their life experiences from the start as if they were old friends reminiscing about the past.
Just like that, they seemed to talk for what felt like a very long time and also extremely short.
As their conversations ended, he seemed to hear a ding!
Hearing this the other side also smiled and got up,
"It seems like time is up, I had a very pleasant time, but it seems like I gotta go for good now."
Rex also stood up and couldn't help feeling complicated. He asked the question he wanted to ask for a long time,
"But are you really dead?"
