As soon as she opened the door, Xu Shuyun was met with an unsettling sight. Her daughter was straddling Ye Fei’s lap. Normally, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but she had just realized how mature Ye Fei had become in that regard. Seeing her daughter in such a position made her uneasy.

Just then, Ye Jing said something that made Xu Shuyun even more uncomfortable. Feeling something hard pressing against her bottom, Ye Jing asked, "Brother, what do you have in your pocket? It’s poking me." She reached down to grab it.

Both Ye Fei and Xu Shuyun were shocked. To prevent Ye Jing from discovering the truth, Ye Fei instinctively hugged her tightly, pulling her arms and body close to him. But this only made their contact even more intimate. Ye Jing’s short skirt had ridden up to her waist from her earlier wriggling, leaving her essentially in just her panties on Ye Fei’s lap. Ye Fei’s "problem" seemed to have a mind of its own and was now pressing right against the most delicate part of the girl. As he hugged her tighter, Ye Jing felt a sensation she had never experienced before.

Though only fourteen, Ye Jing, like many kids her age, had matured early. Some even started engaging in such activities at eleven or twelve. Feeling Ye Fei’s pressure, she immediately noticed something. The mix of discomfort and pleasure made her frown and say, "Brother, that hurts even more. Ah, it’s such a strange feeling..."

Hearing her daughter’s words and recalling Ye Fei’s earlier mischief, Xu Shuyun assumed he had done it on purpose. She strode over and sat on the sofa in front of them, glaring at Ye Fei.

Ye Fei was also extremely uncomfortable. He hadn’t expected to be unintentionally tempted by both the stunning mother and daughter, and now Xu Shuyun was misunderstanding him. He gave Xu Shuyun an apologetic look, then released Ye Jing and helped her off his lap.

But Ye Jing wasn’t about to let Ye Fei off the hook. She was intrigued by his hardness. With no other choice, Ye Fei reached into his pocket—actually accessing his storage space—and handed her a pair of nunchucks, explaining, "It’s this. You know I’m not in great health, so I carry some exercise equipment with me to work out whenever I can." He glanced at Xu Shuyun, his eyes full of innocence.

Xu Shuyun rolled her eyes at Ye Fei but didn’t respond. She knew he hadn’t done it on purpose, but she couldn’t help feeling annoyed. The thought that he could get aroused in front of her fourteen-year-old daughter was unacceptable. As soon as this thought crossed her mind, Xu Shuyun’s face turned red. Wasn’t she implying that it was okay for him to tease her?

Fortunately, Ye Jing didn’t understand what was going on. Seeing the nunchucks, she quickly lost interest, tossed them back to Ye Fei, and tried to climb onto his lap again.

But Ye Fei, still burning with desire and wary of another mishap, quickly stopped her and changed the subject. "Where’s Uncle? Isn’t he home?"

At the mention of Ye Lingtian, Xu Shuyun’s feigned anger dissolved into a look of sorrow. She glanced at the study and forced a smile. "He drank too much at noon and is still sleeping."

Ye Jing, already upset that Ye Fei had stopped her from cuddling, pouted and said, "Are you here to see me and Mom, or my dad?"

Ye Fei was taken aback. "Of course I’m here to see all of you. Is there a problem with that?"

Unable to hide her feelings, Ye Jing huffed, "Dad is so mean now. I don’t like him anymore, and you’re not allowed to like him either!"

Ye Fei frowned. He remembered how Ye Jing used to love clinging to Ye Lingtian, always complaining that he was too busy to spend time with her. What had changed?

Ye Fei, puzzled, glanced at Xu Shuyun and asked, "Auntie, did something happen?"

Seeing that her daughter had spoken up, Xu Shuyun no longer concealed her emotions. She let out a soft sigh but didn’t answer Ye Fei. Instead, she turned to look at the study, her vacant gaze making Ye Fei feel a pang of sympathy.

Before Ye Fei could press further, a commotion came from the study. A rather rude voice shouted, "Who’s yelling out there? Don’t you know it’s impolite to disturb someone’s sleep?"

Rude—that was the word. Previously, Ye Fei would have thought of this voice as hearty, but now it just came across as crude.

Following the voice, a disheveled man with pale skin and tousled hair emerged, dressed in pajamas. Ye Fei’s eyes widened in surprise.

Was this his once-spirited uncle?

Though the face was familiar, the man now looked more like a street vagrant than the Ye Lingtian he remembered.

Spotting Ye Fei, Ye Lingtian forced a smile and said, "Oh, it’s Ye Fei. It’s been a while since you last visited. Stay for dinner today. Let your aunt cook something nice for you. Hmm, no, I need to go back to sleep." He yawned and turned to head back into the study, never once looking at his wife or daughter.

"Uncle, wait a minute. I need to talk to you about something," Ye Fei quickly stopped Ye Lingtian. Despite his current disappointment, Ye Lingtian was still his beloved uncle who had doted on him since childhood. Ye Fei wanted to seek his opinion on the matter of Ye Yu.

Ye Lingtian furrowed his brows impatiently but held his ground, sitting on the sofa farthest from the three of them. "What is it? Make it quick."

"It’s about Brother Yu," Ye Fei decided to get straight to the point, knowing from Ye Lingtian’s expression that he had no patience for a long story.

"Little Yu?" A rare smile appeared on Ye Lingtian’s face. "He’s been doing a great job. He’s handled a lot of things for me over the past two years. I’ve already decided to hand over the Ye family to him."

Ye Fei was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Ye Lingtian to have already considered stepping down. He wanted to dissuade his uncle from this idea, but Ye Jing was faster.

"No way, Dad! You can’t give the Ye family to Ye Yu!" Xu Shuyun’s face also showed anxiety, but she didn’t know whom to turn to for help. In the end, she looked to Ye Fei.

Hearing his daughter contradict him, Ye Lingtian was displeased. He sternly said, "Enough. What would you know, child?"

Ye Jing wanted to say more, but Ye Fei quietly stopped her. Taking a deep breath, Ye Fei said seriously, "Uncle, I also think Brother Yu isn’t ready to manage the Ye family yet."

"You think so too?" Ye Lingtian was momentarily stunned, then he smiled faintly, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "Ye Fei, I know what you’re thinking. Yes, the Ye family was supposed to be yours, but you’re just not cut out for it. You know what our family is all about. With your health, you can’t handle these responsibilities. But don’t worry, Little Yu will take good care of you."

Ye Lingtian’s words ignited a flash of anger in Ye Fei, but he suppressed it. Looking into Ye Lingtian’s eyes, he said calmly, "Uncle, you’re right. I’m not the right person for this, and I’ve never wanted to take over the Ye family. But Brother Yu isn’t suitable. First, you’re still young; there’s no rush to step down. Second, do you know? Brother Yu’s reputation isn’t great these days. Under his leadership, the Lingyun Association has done a lot of unpopular things. People in Wang Hai City no longer respect our family; they’re afraid of us. If this continues, our family might be ruined."

Recalling the taxi driver’s reaction when he arrived, Ye Fei became more and more agitated, almost shouting.

But Ye Lingtian still didn’t take it seriously. He laughed loudly and said, "So what? Don’t forget what we do. Isn’t it normal for people to be afraid of us? And with the power our Ye family has now, who dares to say anything? I think Little Yu is doing the right thing. Sometimes, you just need to establish your authority."

Ye Fei couldn’t believe Ye Lingtian had changed so much. If he kept pushing, Ye Lingtian would probably defend Ye Yu even more. So he nodded and said, "Uncle, you’re right. I was overthinking it."

Seeing that Ye Fei had been persuaded, Ye Lingtian felt very pleased. He patted Ye Fei on the shoulder, laughed loudly, and went back to his study.

After Ye Lingtian went inside, the living room fell into silence. None of the three spoke until they heard Ye Lingtian’s snoring from inside. Then Ye Fei looked at Xu Shuyun and asked, "Auntie, what happened to Uncle? He wasn’t like this before."

Xu Shuyun sighed and said, "I don’t know either. Over a year ago, his temper started getting more and more irritable. He wouldn’t listen to anyone’s advice, but he trusted Ye Yu a lot. And..." She blushed slightly as she continued, "And it seems like he’s lost interest in me too. He moved into the study by himself." Even she couldn’t explain why she was telling Ye Fei this.

"But didn’t you two seem fine during the New Year?" Since their families lived far apart and had little interaction, the last time Ye Fei had seen Ye Lingtian was during the New Year. He was puzzled because Ye Lingtian hadn’t acted like this back then.

"He was forcing himself to be nice. It was the New Year, after all. No one wants to ruin the holiday. He’s like this all the time otherwise."

"And sometimes he even hits Mom," Ye Jing added indignantly from the side.

"What?" Ye Fei was completely shocked. He never imagined that Ye Lingtian would lay a hand on Xu Shuyun. Given their deep love and the fact that any man would cherish a beauty like Xu Shuyun, Ye Fei felt a surge of sympathy for her. He got up, sat beside her, put his arm around her shoulders, and said softly, "Auntie, you’ve been through so much."

Feeling Ye Fei’s warm embrace, Xu Shuyun couldn’t help but think about all the grievances she had endured over the past year. She could no longer hold back her tears and buried her head in Ye Fei’s chest, crying softly. Seeing her mother cry, Ye Jing also started to cry.

Ye Fei didn’t know how to comfort them, so he just held them both and gently patted their backs.
