Chapter 87: Chapter 86: The Future Son-in-law
Returning to his own room, Doctor Liu had already gone to bed, so Zhang Hao tiptoed to the bathroom.
After a quick shower and changing into clean clothes, he lay down and tried to catch some sleep.
The next morning, a series of urgent rings woke Zhang Hao up.
Thinking it was his alarm going off, he picked up the phone only to find that the caller was Gu Yue.
Once connected, Gu Yue invited Zhang Hao to have breakfast downstairs, even calling Doctor Liu too.
But as Zhang Hao got out of bed, he saw Doctor Liu was still sleeping, so he decided not to wake him up.
He dressed well by himself and went out.
There was a breakfast restaurant right next to the hotel, with a wide variety of choices, so he ordered a bit of everything and filled a large table.
"To think, after expending so much energy last night, you’re still able to get up so early this morning, it’s truly admirable," said Zhang Hao.
Gu Xing was sipping soy milk with her head bowed, while Gu Yue was eating a bowl of wontons drizzled with chili oil.
"It’s precisely because I expended so much energy last night that I need to eat well this morning."
"Otherwise, how would I get through today’s busy work? There’s also something I forgot to mention to you, Doctor Zhang."
Zhang Hao smiled and said, "Don’t always call me Doctor Zhang, just Zhang Hao is fine."
Gu Yue smiled slightly, a calm smile that was completely different from the one she wore the night before.
"Today my father is coming, Doctor Zhang, you should put in a good performance. With him around, it might help increase the fame of the hospital where you work."
Zhang Hao, breaking open a meat bun, said, "So, is this the result of my own abilities, or is it a favor for what happened last night, from the two of you sisters?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Xing swallowed the gulp of soy milk she had in her mouth.
She said with a smile, "Your medical skills are your ability, and last night was also your ability, so overall, you’ve achieved all this through your own strength."
"After this exchange competition is over, the leaders at your hospital will surely reward you."
Whether he received a reward or not didn’t really matter to Zhang Hao, but as long as the hospital he worked for gained more recognition.
His treatment at the hospital would accordingly rise with the tide.
Moreover, if he could use this opportunity to gain the appreciation of some big shots.
It would help his career prospects.
After finishing breakfast, Zhang Hao brought back a portion for Doctor Liu.
The Gu sisters had finished their meal and went to the convention center to get busy.
Zhang Hao and Doctor Liu didn’t need to be there so early; arriving at the scene before ten o’clock was fine.
Hearing that major leaders from the city and province would be there today, Zhang Hao felt somewhat nervous.
Having come from a humble background, he had never experienced such a grand event.
He also hoped that today’s exchange meeting would go smoothly, without any unexpected disturbances.
As he was packing his things, someone knocked on the door. Opening it, he saw the hotel front desk.
"Are you Mr. Zhang Hao?"
"Yes, that’s me. What’s the matter?"
"A Mr. Lin is looking for you, saying he has something very important to discuss with you."
Mr. Lin...
Zhang Hao immediately thought of who it could be, and told the hotel front desk, "I’m not able to go there, I left my car keys at the front desk last night for safekeeping."
Lin Zhen waited in the hotel lobby, not seeing Zhang Hao come out no matter what.
But he only knew that Zhang Hao was staying here, without knowing the exact floor or room number.
From time to time, he glanced at the two elevators, wondering if the hotel had a low occupancy rate.
The elevator doors didn’t open for a long time, and it was only with great difficulty that he saw the floors change on the small screen.
The familiar sound of the elevator doors opening was heard, and Lin Zhen quickly walked over, only to discover that it was the receptionist who came out.
"Mr. Lin, good day. Mr. Zhang is momentarily unavailable to see you. He said your car keys are at the front desk. May I ask what brand your car is?"
Lin Zhen, of course, knew that Zhang Hao couldn’t possibly have lost his car.
But he wasn’t in a hurry to retrieve his car now; he wanted to have a face-to-face with Zhang Hao.
Last night, he stole his car, causing him to walk such a long distance before hailing a taxi.
Such a miserable incident could happen to him— all thanks to Zhang Hao.
That’s why he wanted to meet the man and leave him a few harsh words.
But Zhang Hao actually refused to see him!
"If he won’t see me, then I’ll wait here. I don’t believe he won’t come out. Your hotel doesn’t have a back door, right?"
The hotel receptionist shook her head, but the reality was Zhang Hao had left through the back kitchen.
Doctor Liu was still puzzled; with the main entrance available, why would he use the back door?
Zhang Hao gave a vague excuse, saying there was trouble at the front door and he used the back door to avoid wasting time.
Doctor Liu didn’t possess such a strong curiosity; since Zhang Hao mentioned there was trouble at the front, so be it.
The important thing was not to let it interfere with their main event.
They arrived at the exchange competition center before the appointed time.
As soon as Zhang Hao entered, he was stopped by the staff on site and arranged to a fixed position to wait.
Doctor Liu was quite curious and, while others hadn’t noticed their area, nudged Zhang Hao.
"Doctor Zhang, what’s going on here?"
Zhang Hao shook his head slightly; he didn’t know either, guessing it might have something to do with the Gu sisters.
Sure enough, after waiting for a few minutes, he saw Gu Xing’s figure.
Gu Xing bounced over excitedly: "Zhang Hao, why did you only come now? My sister and I have been waiting for you for a long time."
Zhang Hao quickly glanced at the time: "The conference starts at ten o’clock. It’s only nine forty now, twenty minutes to spare, I’m not late."
Gu Xing rolled her eyes at him but didn’t have any other complaints. Pulling Zhang Hao and calling for Doctor Liu, they headed towards the most crowded part of the room.
Gu Yue stood beside her father, Gu Shengsen, a businessman whose field of work had little to do with the medical community.
However, he was dedicated to supporting medical development, which is why he had a high reputation in the medical world.
"Sister, Doctor Zhang has arrived."
Upon seeing this, Gu Yue immediately went over to Zhang Hao and said: "Doctor Zhang, this is my father."
"That day at the airport, you acted with composure and saved my life. My entire family owes you our thanks."
Gu Shengsen looked at Zhang Hao with admiration in his eyes.
"So it was you who saved my daughter?"
Zhang Hao didn’t dare take too much credit: "It was merely a small effort. If it were any other doctor, they wouldn’t have just stood by either. I was simply fulfilling a doctor’s duty."
Gu Shengsen was very satisfied with this humble response.
The people gathered around Gu Shengsen included CEOs of small and medium-sized companies as well as titans of the industry.
Zhang Hao was the least conspicuous among them.
Yet it was he who had saved Gu Shengsen’s precious daughter, making it impossible to overlook his presence.
Saving Gu Yue’s life was tantamount to saving the Gu Family’s life.
Those who knew the Gu Family were aware of how much Gu Shengsen valued his elder daughter.
Despite still being in his prime, he had transferred a significant portion of his business to his daughter’s name.
Already, many on site had assumed Zhang Hao to be the Gu Family’s future son-in-law!
