Chapter 537: Chapter 536: Twins (Grand Finale)

"Didn’t we agree not to smoke in front of the child? And you’ve been coughing a lot lately, so cut down on the smoking for now."

Liu Gang sighed and said, "If I’m feeling troubled, I’ll go out for a walk. Don’t bother making dinner for me."

Liu Gang took his cellphone, cigarettes, lighter, and the house keys and left.

Women are naturally sensitive. Even though Liu Gang hadn’t said anything, she sensed a crisis.

She turned to look at her daughter, wanting to say something, but stopped herself.

Liu Gang, arriving downstairs, found Zhang Hao’s number in his contacts.

After hesitating, he still made the call, but no one answered.

At this time, with the phone going unanswered, Liu Gang assumed they must be happily discussing marriage and childbirth, the joyous matters.

Who would be clinging to their phone? But the reality was different.

Zhang Hao had planned to go home for dinner, but just before he got off work, another surgery came up.

He was forcefully retained by the Director of Surgery, so he missed that dinner.

When he finally got back, it was already one or two in the morning. He Qianhui reheated the dinner she had brought home, and Zhang Hao managed to eat it.

"What’s with your Director of Surgery? Knowing your leg isn’t in good condition, he still insists on keeping you for surgery. Don’t make me complain about him one of these days," He Qianhui voiced her dissatisfaction.

Zhang Hao was already accustomed to such matters.

"Today was an emergency, and you know that medical resources will be scarce for a long time."

"A doctor as excellent as me is expected to work for eight people at once. What can be done?"

"By the way, I’ve given it some thought, and after we get married, you should live with my parents."

"I’d feel at ease since they could take care of you. I’d worry about you being alone at home."

He Qianhui shook her head, rejecting Zhang Hao’s suggestion.

"Isn’t there an auntie at home? With her around, I won’t be that busy. Besides, I’m only half a month pregnant, not eight or nine months yet. There’s no need to be overly cautious."

When Zhang Hao lay down in bed, he noticed an unanswered call on his phone.

Looking at the number, Zhang Hao hesitated, but realizing how late it was,

he dismissed it as a spam call and deleted it. Before sleeping, Zhang Hao still asked He Qianhui what kind of wedding she wanted.

When He Qianhui first got together with Liu Gang, their wedding was very hasty.

Now that she was pregnant, they could afford a bit more pomp for the wedding.

"My parents said they would throw us a few dozen tables at a big hotel here. What do you think?"

"Then, in a couple of days, I will take you to buy three or five ’golds,’ or if you don’t want them, we can exchange them for gold bars to keep for yourself."

He Qianhui hadn’t expected Zhang Hao’s parents to be so sincere.

To be frank, the cost of those ’golds’ was half for craftsmanship.

The money spent on those items would be better invested in an actual gold bar to keep at home, to look at from time to time.

"I’ll skip getting involved in this matter. I am aware of the sincerity of uncle and auntie, so let’s do as they say."

With He Qianhui’s response, Zhang Haodun was completely satisfied.

"Don’t worry, by marrying me, I will surely not let you down," Zhang Hao assured her.

To wrap things up before He Qianhui’s pregnancy became obvious, Zhang Hao’s family became incredibly busy.

In less than half a month, everything was planned out.

Taking advantage of work hours, they sent out the wedding invitations. Those who wanted to come could come; those who didn’t could just send their blessings upon hearing the news.

On the day of their grand wedding, He Qianhui wore an off-the-shoulder bridal gown and always felt that her stomach seemed to bulge slightly when she looked in the mirror.

She was worried that someone might whisper during the ceremony, suspecting that she had rushed into marriage because she was pregnant.

But after asking the makeup artist several times, the artist assured her that her belly was not at all obvious.

The wedding was bustling with excitement, and He Qianhui had specially asked Feng Nuo to be her bridesmaid.

As for Zhang Hao’s groomsmen, there were his classmates, friends, and colleagues.

By the end of the day, both of them were exhausted.

According to Zhang Hao, if He Qianhui hadn’t already been pregnant, he would have enjoyed consummating the marriage properly.

However, He Qianhui had long known about his capabilities.

The two of them lay in bed staring at the ceiling, with Zhang Hao feeling that everything happening before him didn’t quite seem real.

He took out the red marriage booklet from the drawer and looked at it: "We’re really married now."

He Qianhui also looked at the photo of the two of them on the marriage certificate, which was exceptionally beautiful.

"This certificate isn’t something you buy by the roadside for twenty bucks, nine yuan for two."

Zhang Hao hissed, "What do you say to us tearing up this certificate?"

"I heard that you still need the marriage certificate when you get a divorce, so if we tear it up, we won’t be able to get divorced."

He Qianhui quickly grabbed the booklet and kept it on her side: "What are you thinking? I still need to take a photo tomorrow and brag about it on my Moments."

In the midst of their conversation, Zhang Hao’s phone rang; he picked it up to see it was still an unfamiliar number.

But no matter how he looked at it, the number seemed familiar, and he suddenly remembered it was from an evening half a month ago.

Initially, Zhang Hao didn’t want to answer, but then the call came through again. If it called once, it could be a prank call, but not necessarily if it called twice.

Upon answering, Zhang Hao heard a familiar voice: "Cousin, why is it you?"

Liu Gang coughed twice, then laughed: "I heard you got married. I didn’t expect you to really keep your promise and give Xiaohui a complete family."

"I had planned to congratulate you at the scene, but then I thought better of it and didn’t go. Though I wasn’t there in person, I still have to give the gift money."

Zhang Hao desperately said it wasn’t necessary, but he couldn’t withstand Liu Gang’s insistence.

Soon after, twenty thousand yuan was transferred to his bank account; such a generous gift made both Zhang Hao and He Qianhui feel awkward about accepting it.

However, when he tried calling back that number, he discovered the contact had been blocked again.

With no other recourse, Zhang Hao could only silently thank his cousin and remember him in his heart.

Nine months whisked by, and He Qianhui came to the hospital for a prenatal stay ahead of time, with Zhang Hao frequently visiting the obstetrics ward whenever there were no patients to see.

He was always worried his wife might suddenly go into labor and be rushed into the delivery room.

But each time he visited, there didn’t seem to be anything unusual with He Qianhui’s belly.

One night, while He Qianhui got up to use the bathroom, she suddenly realized her water had broken.

Hearing the commotion, Zhang Hao swiftly called out for a nurse, and it took just over an hour for both the mother and the babies to make their appearance.

Fortunately, He Qianhui gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, all at once.

This delighted Zhang Hao beyond measure; he had previously thought that whether they had a son or a daughter, they would have to try for another.

Now, having achieved both at once, he felt the responsibility on his shoulders even more.

Throughout the pregnancy, He Qianhui had been carefully cared for, so the delivery process did not drain too much of her energy.

At least when she came out, aside from some sweat on her face, there was no sign of poor complexion or any negative signs.

All in all, with the children born, their marriage and life could both be summed up as perfect.
