Chapter 535: Chapter 534: Pregnant
The messages in the work group chat refreshed quickly, and Zhang Hao scrolled down to find that the earliest message was around seven o’clock.
As for what the message was, Zhang Hao hadn’t made it out before a new message popped up.
"What’s the matter? They better not be asking you to go back and work overtime," He Qianhui asked worriedly.
Zhang Hao patted his still recovering leg and said with a laugh, "In my current state, how can I work overtime? Do you think I’m Superman or something?"
He Qianhui couldn’t help but laugh, but as she laughed, she suddenly felt nauseous.
Zhang Hao was glued to his phone and didn’t notice He Qianhui’s discomfort.
But the nausea intensified, and worried she might vomit on the table, she quickly got up and ran to the bathroom.
When Zhang Hao realized what was happening, he thought something was seriously wrong.
As He Qianhui didn’t return, Zhang Hao began to worry.
So, he decided to check on her and upon pushing open the bathroom door, he saw He Qianhui hugging the toilet, retching.
Realizing something was not right, Zhang Hao rushed to pat her back.
"What’s wrong? Did you eat something bad today?"
He Qianhui furrowed her brow, trying to say something, but the wave of nausea hit again, and she had to cling to the toilet to continue vomiting.
Seeing her struggle, Zhang Hao hopped up to look for some medicine.
He dumped out everything in the medicine box, but couldn’t find anything to relieve the vomiting.
"Xiaohui, maybe we should go to the hospital. You can’t keep throwing up like this," Zhang Hao said while getting up to grab his wallet at the door, only to hear He Qianhui’s voice from behind him.
"No need, I think I know what’s going on. Go to the drawer on the left side of the bed in the bedroom and get something for me."
Standing at the door, Zhang Hao was still puzzled, but he followed He Qianhui’s instructions and went to the bedroom.
When Zhang Hao opened the drawer, what caught his eye was a box of pregnancy tests.
At the sight of the pregnancy tests, Zhang Hao’s mind went blank, unsure of what to say.
He mechanically went to the bedroom door and handed the whole box of pregnancy tests to He Qianhui.
By then, He Qianhui no longer felt nauseous, but a faint smile remained on her face.
Zhang Hao didn’t know how he made it through the next few minutes; he was unaware of any sounds or changes happening around him.
It wasn’t until He Qianhui walked out of the bathroom that Zhang Hao numbly looked up at her.
"What’s the result?" stammered Zhang Hao.
"See for yourself, you’re the doctor," she replied.
Zhang Hao took the pregnancy test from her, his hands visibly trembling.
There were two obvious lines on the pregnancy test.
"Why are there two lines?" Zhang Hao asked.
He Qianhui, hearing his question, almost wanted to curse him, but she held back.
Pointing to the two lines, she said, "You’re a doctor. You should know what two lines mean for a pregnancy test."
Looking down at the pregnancy test in his hand, Zhang Hao suddenly shouted excitedly.
"I’m going to be a dad?"
He Qianhui slightly tidied her hair and said with a serene expression, "The last time I went to the City Hospital, I just wanted to give myself a comprehensive check-up."
"I was thinking, why is it that after being with you for such a long time, there’s still no sign of movement in my belly, and it was the same when I was with Gang."
"I suspected that there wasn’t anything wrong with my body back then, but so much time has passed, and the state of one’s health can change imperceptibly."
"Just in case my body is no longer suitable for pregnancy now, I couldn’t let you down, preventing you from becoming a dad."
"But, the final result was quite good, I just have a bit of mild malnutrition, and my uterus and ovaries are all fine."
"Then I ran into an old classmate, and that made me push this matter to the back of my mind."
"But during those days on the business trip, I consistently showed signs of retching, at first I thought I had eaten something bad."
Standing to talk was a bit tiring, so He Qianhui came over to sit beside Zhang Hao and continued speaking.
"It wasn’t until after I returned that I discovered my period was several days late, but I had never considered the possibility of pregnancy."
"Today after work, Feng Nuo grabbed my hand, looked at me very seriously, and asked if I was pregnant."
"If it weren’t for her reminding me, I might really never have thought about it, so I asked you to get a pregnancy test for me to try just now."
Zhang Hao forced himself to calm down immediately, otherwise he might become overwhelmed with joy and burst into tears.
Although the result shown by the pregnancy test was clear enough to prove that He Qianhui was already in a state of pregnancy.
But to be on the safe side, Zhang Hao took out another one from the box of pregnancy tests!
Test it one more time.
He Qianhui, not at all annoyed, poked Zhang Hao’s forehead and said, "It’s only because it’s your child that I’m not too lazy to go through all this trouble, just wait."
The few minutes spent going in and out of the bathroom felt like an eternity to Zhang Hao at that moment.
When He Qianhui appeared again holding a new pregnancy test, Zhang Hao briskly ran up to her.
He took the pregnancy test from her hand, and although the second line was still faint, it was now discernible.
"When did you start feeling nauseous and wanting to vomit?"
"During the business trip, but at that time I could suppress the nausea by eating something sour."
"But for some reason, tonight I just felt the urge to vomit; it’s only been about a week or so."
But Zhang Hao, being a doctor, felt that He Qianhui might have been pregnant even before that time.
It just wasn’t obvious then, "Tomorrow, ah, go to the hospital for a test, see how long you’ve been pregnant, and then I’ll discuss with mom and dad about our marriage. We can’t put it off any longer."
"If we delay it, and your belly gets bigger, you won’t be able to fit into a nice wedding dress. Don’t you always want to wear an off-the-shoulder gown?"
Suddenly, He Qianhui felt as if everything was spiraling beyond her control. Having a child indeed was something to be happy about.
But it seemed to her that everything was moving too fast all of a sudden.
"Let’s wait until tomorrow’s checkup results come out, confirm that I’m really carrying the Old Zhang family’s seed, and then we’ll tell your aunt and uncle the good news," He Qianhui said.
Now that He Qianhui was carrying his child, Zhang Hao also regretted that his leg hadn’t healed sooner.
In this way, he could take care of her wholeheartedly, twenty-four hours a day.
Fortunately, the housekeeper they had hired before had decided to stay and take care of things at home long-term.
"Now that you’re pregnant, you must be extra careful with what you eat and drink."
While talking, Zhang Hao reached out and touched He Qianhui’s wrist, feeling her pulse, sensing the differences there.
He could be one hundred percent certain of her pregnancy even without going to the hospital for a checkup.
