Chapter 531: Chapter 528: Wife, You’re Here
"You’re so young; you should be able to understand what’s going on."
Zhang Hao wasn’t clueless about what was going on; he knew that marrying a wife these days was not like the old times when bringing a daughter-in-law home meant working her to the bone.
But he had never imagined that his parents could be so liberal.
To think they even took the time to educate him not to treat the wife he brought home like a servant.
Just the thought of this concern made Zhang Hao feel his parents were being incredibly unfair to him.
Hadn’t the two people who brought him into this world any clue about what kind of person their son was?
With such doubts in mind, Zhang Hao asked a question.
"Dad, Mom, am I really your biological child, or is Xiaohui the one? Aren’t you afraid she will boss me around?"
When Zhang Hao voiced this doubt, his parents acted as if they hadn’t heard a word.
Especially when he saw his dad picking up a slice of beef from the plate and saying the beef they bought this time was of good quality and they should buy it there again next time.
Seeing his parents so clearly dodging the topic, Zhang Hao could only look at He Qianhui with a sense of grievance.
"Look at this, you haven’t even joined the family yet, and my parents are already biased towards you. Once you actually marry me, where can I even go to make my case?"
To this, He Qianhui’s response was odd, "I don’t know about that, but judging from the current situation..."
"Uncle and Auntie seem to be favoring me. However, I do have a solution."
"As long as you always treat me well in the future, I believe Uncle and Auntie won’t be too hard on you."
After finishing lunch, the two prepared to head home when, at the last minute,
He Qianhui received a big plastic bag from Auntie, filled to the brim with peaches.
"Knowing you like these peaches, I bought a lot. Take them home and enjoy at your leisure."
Feeling the weight of the bag of peaches, Qianhui was moved beyond words.
"Auntie, you’re so good to me."
"Still calling me Auntie, huh? Shouldn’t you start changing that soon?"
Zhang Hao, hearing his mom say this, also looked at He Qianhui with a teasing smile.
"Alright, Mom, we’re heading off now. If there’s nothing else, we’ll come by again in a few days."
Then his mom said, "Don’t bother, in a couple of days, your father and I are going out for a trip. We won’t have time to cook for you two. If you want to visit, wait until we get back."
His parents were going on a trip, and he, their son, was just finding out about this major event.
He really was a tad slow on the uptake.
"Such big news, and you’re telling me now? Why not wait until after you’ve left to inform me?" Zhang Hao asked.
Zhang Hao’s mother chuckled and hurried them to get going.
The temperature outside had risen again recently, and if they stayed outdoors too long, they could very well suffer from heatstroke.
When the two arrived home, Qianhui carefully stored the peaches, and Zhang Hao wasn’t even allowed to eat one – she firmly refused him.
"If you want to eat, I can go and buy some for you now, but you’re not to touch the ones Auntie gave me."
"Why not? It’s just a peach. Don’t tell me I don’t even have the right to eat one now," Zhang Hao complained.
Qianhui, not wanting to bother with him, took out other fruits from the fridge, washed some, and gave them to him to eat.
Zhang Hao felt a touch of sorrow.
In a blink, Monday had arrived, and before he could even finish his lunch, the hospital leaders had already come to pick him up for work.
He Qianhui was still somewhat reluctant, but since she had to go to her company as well, there really wasn’t any way to negotiate a balance, and in the end, she could only make the hospital leaders assure her repeatedly.
That absolutely no accidents would occur during Zhang Hao’s work shift, and if they did, the hospital would take full responsibility.
Of course, the hospital leaders wanted there to be no accidents during work hours.
But sometimes things don’t go as people wish, and accidents are not something humans can control.
All they could do was to try their best to ensure that accidents didn’t happen.
After being busy all afternoon, with only one patient left, Zhang Hao also breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as he was preparing to see the last patient, Xia Xin came over.
As soon as she approached, Zhang Hao’s heart tightened.
"Why is it you again?" he asked.
Xia Xin raised her voice, "Why can’t it be me? I spent a good amount of money today to buy one of your appointment slots from a scalper."
"And to my surprise, I found myself last in line. I’ve wasted a whole day of work. Has your leg healed properly since the cast was removed?"
Xia Xin acted as if she was already familiar with him, trying to roll up Zhang Hao’s trouser leg as she approached.
Zhang Hao drew his leg back, "Are you here for a consultation, or are you here for something else? If you’re here for a consultation, then sit properly; otherwise, go back where you came from."
Xia Xin slammed the table, "Who do you think you’re yelling at? Believe it or not, I’ll go and complain about you in a minute for your poor attitude towards patients."
Just her presence was enough to make Zhang Hao’s head hurt, and her way of speaking was somewhat intolerable.
Zhang Hao, feeling helpless, patiently asked, "Madam Xia, what exactly is wrong with you?"
Seeing Zhang Hao change his attitude, Xia Xin let out a chuckle, "That’s better, isn’t it? Really, people who work in hospitals..."
"Whether they are nurses or heads of departments, they are all scared of complaints. It seems filing a complaint really is the only way to change your attitudes."
"I’m not actually here to see the doctor, just came to check on you. Didn’t I get checked already a while back?"
"I’ve been drinking the medication from the adjusted prescription lately, and I feel refreshed and lively."
"Do you think I should give you a banner of gratitude and stand in the department boasting, ’Where’s Director Zhang Hao?’, so the whole hospital knows about you?"
For other doctors, Xia Xin’s behavior might have been seen as something positive.
But for Zhang Hao, who didn’t care for such ephemeral things, the banner didn’t hold much appeal to him.
"There’s no need for a banner of gratitude, you’d be better off resting at home. Since you’re the last patient today, it also means I can finish up early," said Zhang Hao.
At hearing this, Xia Xin immediately became unhappy, "What do you mean you can finish work early? Don’t I deserve a bit more of your time?"
As soon as she said this, someone suddenly appeared at the door of the department.
Zhang Hao greeted her warmly upon seeing her, and Xia Xin, thinking it was someone of importance, turned around only to discover a woman had arrived.
Her intuition told her that this woman must have a significant connection with Zhang Hao.
"Wife, you’re here," he said.
He Qianhui was worried that Zhang Hao would be swamped with work all afternoon, so after finishing up what she had to do, she immediately rushed to the hospital.
And there she found him chatting with a female patient.
"Yes, I’ve come to pick you up and take you home. How was it this afternoon, were you busy?" she asked.
