Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Old Friends
The old employees of the hospital all knew that Zhao Qing came from an incredibly wealthy family.
If it weren’t for the fact that she had been married, suitors would have literally flattened the threshold of her home with marriage proposals.
Now that Zhao Qing had started pursuing a divorce lawsuit, every male colleague, one after the other, had begun to spruce themselves up.
Just like male peacocks in a zoo, constantly showing off their feathers to the peahens.
With Zhao Qing’s background, it was destined that she wouldn’t notice anyone too ordinary.
Therefore, the male colleagues in the hospital’s departments who had any self-awareness didn’t join the commotion.
But no one expected that Zhang Hao, who had only arrived a few days ago, had managed to win her favor first through an act of heroism.
The male doctors from various departments were envious, especially after hearing that he had slept with Zhao Qing, they were even more resentful!
This led to Zhang Hao inexplicably becoming the enemy of the male staff at the hospital!
However, the female doctors and nurses felt the opposite about Zhang Hao, claiming it was all due to his manliness when asked why!
That day after work, Zhang Hao, as usual, packed up his things, ready to head home early.
But before he could even leave the hospital office, an acquaintance showed up!
Lin Wan!
Seeing Lin Wan here felt somewhat unreal to Zhang Hao, as the city hospital was in the city center.
The hospital he was currently working at was on the eastern side of the city; the two places weren’t too far apart, but they weren’t close either.
"Lin Wan, it really is you!"
Lin Wan smiled faintly. In fact, she had wanted to visit Zhang Hao for a long time but never found the chance.
Fortunately, she had a day off today. After hurriedly finishing her competitive tasks, she rushed here, worrying on the way.
She was concerned that she might arrive too late and miss him after he had finished work.
Luckily, her timing was perfect, catching Zhang Hao just as he was about to leave, and an idea slowly started to germinate in her heart.
"It’s a good thing I’m just finishing work, or you would have missed me," said Zhang Hao with a smile.
Lin Wan approached him with eyes full of longing.
"How could you leave without saying a word to me? Even if you were in a hurry at the time, you could’ve at least sent a message on WeChat."
Zhang Hao scratched his head and laughed, "I haven’t fully adapted to the work here yet, so I haven’t had the energy. How about I make it up to you by taking you out to dinner tonight?"
Back when he was at school, Zhang Hao had agreed with the saying that there were no emotional ties between colleagues, let alone friendships.
After leaving the city hospital, Zhang Hao thought that the chances of him running into Lin Wan or Xiao Ru again were probably not that great.
And to reach out would just be to disturb their work and lives. If by any chance he was perceived as pestering them, even jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t cleanse his reputation.
Now that Lin Wan had taken the initiative to come to him, the significance was different—it meant at least she hadn’t turned around and forgotten about him.
"Alright, then today I will make sure you treat me to a big meal," she demanded.
The two of them left the office and ran into Zhao Qing, who was also preparing to leave work.
Zhang Hao didn’t mind and even enthusiastically introduced the two women to each other.
Lin Wan extended her hand proactively, and Zhao Qing gave a symbolic handshake before excusing herself to leave early and get her things in order.
Upon entering the elevator and standing next to Zhang Hao, Lin Wan suddenly sighed softly.
Hearing this sigh, Zhang Hao was puzzled and asked,
"What’s the matter, all the sighs? Could it be that Dr. Xu is having ideas about you again?"
At that, Lin Wan immediately shook her head, "Of course not, I’m sighing because wherever you go, there are always beautiful female colleagues around."
"That Zhao Qing just now, she must like you, right?" she mused.
Zhang Hao turned sharply, "What are you talking about? We’re just regular colleagues."
Lin Wan looked down and laughed, "You still don’t understand women. Only a woman really understands another woman’s heart."
"Didn’t you notice? The instant Nurse Zhao shook hands with me, her eyes were filled with a fierce expression."
"They probably already think of me as your girlfriend or fiancée."
Zhang Hao was a bit ambiguous about this matter.
"No way, Zhao Qing is currently going through a divorce, and won’t want to start dating again anytime soon."
"Ah? She was married?" Lin Wan was surprised.
Zhang Hao nodded repeatedly and briefly explained the events that had taken place in the hospital over the past few days.
Lin Wan was like someone who had just heard some juicy gossip, both shocked and curious.
It was hard to believe that in such a small hospital, such significant events could occur.
"What about you? You’ve been hanging around me a lot; has no one given you a hard time in the department?" Zhang Hao also showed concern.
Lin Wan shook her head; she had also joined the city hospital based on her own abilities.
With strong capabilities, she wasn’t afraid of leadership threats or pressure; after all, these days, a gold-medal nurse is even rarer than a doctor.
Nobody had anything to say about her work or personal life.
Besides, their relationship wasn’t made public; only a select few were aware of it.
And when it came to affairs of adults, it was all consensual.
Driving the car, Zhang Hao let Lin Wan choose the place to eat, and they eventually picked a barbecue restaurant.
Upon entering, they were drawn in by the noise of the place; from the outside, the restaurant didn’t look very impressive, but once they stepped in, they discovered that business was booming.
At least, as far as the eye could see, there wasn’t a single empty table.
They finally found an available table, which had not yet been cleared of the previous customer’s mess.
While the waiter was cleaning up, Zhang Hao handed the menu to Lin Wan.
Lin Wan talked about having a feast, but when it came time to order, she still kept within her means.
In the end, the bill only came to three or five hundred yuan.
"Why did you suddenly come to find me today? Just to have me treat you to this meal?" Zhang Hao asked.
"Of course not, I wouldn’t come all this way to see you just for that; I have other things on my mind."
Zhang Hao looked at Lin Wan suspiciously, feeling that she was a bit different today.
It seemed like she’d put on makeup, with eyeliner flicking up at the corners of her eyes like the sting of a scorpion.
The lashes were distinct, fluttering like butterfly wings with every blink.
And then there were... pale blue pupils, which together looked quite attractive.
The jewelry she wore didn’t seem like something put together in a rush after work but rather the result of careful dressing.
"What’s the matter? Surely Lin Zhen isn’t asking me to come back," Zhang Hao said with a smile.
Lin Wan shook her head: "Of course, that’s impossible now. The director’s son has already made you into a negative example for the hospital."
"Just yesterday, there was a meeting about not being arrogant like you, lacking a concept of leadership."
Zhang Hao snorted in disdain but couldn’t really do anything about it.
"I’m not working tomorrow, so I was thinking you could keep me company," Lin Wan finally revealed her purpose.
The moment those words "keep me company" escaped her lips, Zhang Hao knew why Lin Wan had come to find him.
He leaned back, a smile appearing on his face.
Lin Wan offered an oyster to Zhang Hao: "Eat it; it’s good for you."
Besides oysters, there were also kidney pieces and grilled leeks.
Zhang Hao did not hold back and gobbled them all down.
Useful or not, at least they would have a psychological effect.
But Zhang Hao knew he didn’t need these things.
