Chapter 507: Chapter 504: Horse Kills Chicken
Upon hearing her mother say this, Feng Nuo couldn’t help but blush, "Mom, I’m having dinner with a colleague, let’s talk about this when I get home tonight."
But Feng Nuo’s mother was not pleased, "What do you mean talk about it when you get back? Do you know how many people are scrambling for such a good man?"
"Mom, I’ve been talking your ear off, and they’ve only just agreed to meet. Send over the photos quick, so many people have been worrying themselves sick over your lifelong happiness."
Feng Nuo didn’t want He Qianhui to witness this embarrassment, so she hastily hung up the phone.
Seeing her hang up, He Qianhui chuckled, "Better send a selfie quick, or else Auntie will definitely call again later."
Feng Nuo held her forehead, "My mom really knows how to bring up the most inconvenient topics."
"Like, back when I was dating someone, she kept instilling in me to find someone from an ordinary family."
"Now that I’ve broken up with him, she suddenly thinks her daughter is hot property."
"She looks down on those working-class guys; but after all, I had an amicable breakup with him. I really don’t know why she’d think this situation is something to be proud of."
"When I was with him, I kept telling him that I was just a girl from an ordinary family."
"Being with me meant having to face immense pressure, but it wasn’t until after we broke up that my mom believed he really was a company-owning boss."
"Then she suddenly felt her daughter was worth a lot, and even at one point asked me to call him and suggest getting back together."
"But how could I possibly make that kind of call? Since then, my mom began to have unrealistic dreams."
"She even says her daughter deserves someone better. If this isn’t hindsight, I don’t know what is."
"Now she knows he’s a catch and wants me to win him back, but why would he wait for me?"
He Qianhui didn’t feel it was her place to comment on the matter, "Although I can’t stop your mother’s thoughts, I always believe in one principle: one’s love life is in their own hands, beyond anyone else’s control."
"In this day and age, whether they’re good men or bad, they all have their purpose. It’s hard to find a three-legged toad, but men with two legs are a dime a dozen."
With He Qianhui’s comfort, Feng Nuo finally felt a bit better.
Still, she listened to her mother and sent over a photo; otherwise, their dinner might continue to be interrupted.
Zhang Hao was eating takeout alone at home and didn’t want to bother He Qianhui.
As time neared, he mustered the courage to call He Qianhui to ask when she would be back and whether he should drive to pick her up.
To save some cab fare, He Qianhui decided to have Zhang Hao pick her up and take her home.
She then asked Feng Nuo what her plan for getting home was.
Feng Nuo rubbed her hands together and said, "Xiaohui, why don’t I just hitch a ride with you?"
After waiting in the restaurant for twenty minutes, Zhang Hao arrived by car.
As he walked in, He Qianhui waved at him to greet him, and so did Feng Nuo.
"Doctor Zhang, long time no see. Can I hitch a ride back with you today?"
Zhang Hao didn’t mind; he wasn’t concerned about the little extra gas money.
"Wow, you two are having such a grand meal. Do you know what I had for dinner?"
Seeing the situation, He Qianhui quickly packed all the meat on the grill onto one plate.
"Well, why don’t you have a few bites of this? We haven’t touched it. We’ve been chatting here for a good while," said He Qianhui.
Looking at the grilled meat, it would be a waste not to eat it, so Zhang Hao just sat down and didn’t bother with the dipping sauce.
He simply took what He Qianhui hadn’t eaten. Feng Nuo watched all of this from across the table.
"Wow, Doctor Zhang, you really are deeply in love with Xiaohui."
Zhang Hao looked puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"What else could it mean, look at you actually eating what Xiaohui left over, do you have the same taste as her?" Feng Nuo explained.
"Anyway, it’s just a little bit of meat, I’m too lazy to get some new stuff, just a few bites will do," Zhang Hao said.
He Qianhui didn’t say anything and quickly poured him a glass of juice.
"Today, since Feng Nuo is treating, I didn’t feel right calling you out, but this barbecue place is really good, we can come here together another day."
Feng Nuo propped her chin with one hand and looked at the two of them, "Why do I suddenly feel like I’m the third wheel here."
"Xiaohui, can’t you find another barbecue place? This is our secret base, you can’t let Doctor Zhang come here."
Zhang Hao didn’t expect that Feng Nuo would mind such a trivial matter; he swallowed all the meat in his mouth and took a big gulp of his drink.
"We’ll find another place, we won’t compete with you," Zhang Hao said.
Feng Nuo chuckled, and the table was nearly cleared, then Zhang Hao urged the two of them to hurry up and go.
He Qianhui sat in the passenger seat, just fastened her seatbelt, and Feng Nuo’s mouth started chattering again.
"Oh my, look, my mom has even recommended his WeChat to me, do you think I should add him or not?"
Zhang Hao glanced at the rearview mirror, puzzled, and looked at He Qianhui, "Add who? A matchmaker?"
He Qianhui shook her head, smiling, "It’s a match that Feng Nuo’s mom set up for her, online dating, and the guy’s a big boss too."
These key words penetrated Zhang Hao’s ears, and he couldn’t help but caution her.
"Be careful not to get scammed. How many big bosses are there nowadays? And a big boss never has a shortage of women around him."
Feng Nuo let out an exasperated sound, "Doctor Zhang, can you not rain on my parade? This is a match my mom set up, how could it be fake?"
"Anyway, I’m not taking it seriously, just going to chat and see if anything comes of it."
Thinking this way seemed to make sense, and Feng Nuo quickly added the other party as a friend.
But even after the friend request was sent and she got out of the car, the friend request wasn’t accepted yet.
I don’t know if it’s because too many people were trying to add him.
"Xiaohui, Doctor Zhang, drive safely and send me a message when you get home."
"You head back early too, see you tomorrow."
On the way home, He Qianhui leaned back in the seat.
"I haven’t been shopping for so long, walking around with her today, my legs feel a little stiff, and my heels are really sore."
Zhang Hao smiled, "Let’s get some hot water ready when we get back for you to soak your feet. Do you want me, the Gold Medal Masseur, to give you a full-body massage?"
He Qianhui giggled and said, "Of course, I just don’t know if it’s expensive or not."
"Not expensive at all, the massage is on the house," Zhang Hao said.
The smile on He Qianhui’s face grew even brighter.
When the two of them got home, Zhang Hao was busy going back and forth, bringing a basin of hot water into the bedroom.
He Qianhui quickly put her feet in the basin, "The water’s a bit too hot."
"Just wait a bit, actually, this water temperature is just right. Do you want me to take your pulse?" Zhang Hao said.
He Qianhui shook her head, "I’m not sick, why take my pulse?"
Meanwhile, Zhang Hao began massaging her shoulders to help her relax.
