Chapter 50: Chapter 50 Pretending Not to Hear the Bell That’s Being Stolen

Wan Rou smiled and nodded, then called the housemaid to make a cup of green tea for Zhang Hao.

Zhao Jun was sizing up Zhang Hao the whole time, scrutinizing his speech, behavior, and the changes in his expression to determine whether Zhang Hao was a good or bad person.

Zhao Qing took a whole half an hour to change her clothes. By the time she came back down,

she was wearing a beige silk slip dress with lace trimming on the jacket.

Zhao Qing let down her hair, which was pinned up, and the irregular curls further accentuated her feminine charm.

"Dad, don’t be so stern. You’re going to scare Doctor Zhang," she said.

Reminded by his daughter, Zhao Jun then put on a more amiable expression.

"Exactly, you see Doctor Zhang has been stiff since he arrived, he doesn’t seem to be relaxing at all," Wan Rou said.

Zhang Hao was inwardly sweating, wondering if this was the imposing aura of a big shot.

Regardless, he knew he needed to find the right opportunity to leave this place.

Just when he was planning to continue the conversation, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Zhao Qing got up to answer the door, and when she opened it, there stood He Chao holding a big bouquet of flowers,

"Xiao Qing, these are your favorite roses. I ran around the whole city to finally find so many. Do you like them?"

There must have been a hundred blossoms in that large bouquet.

The living room was so spacious and the door so far away, yet sitting on the sofa, Zhang Hao could already smell the fragrance of the roses.

Any girl would be happy to see flowers.

But the expression on Zhao Qing’s face at that moment was quite intriguing, a mix of indifference and slight disgust.

"When I liked you, roses were my favorite, but now I prefer chrysanthemums," she said.

"Yellow, white, just waiting to place a few on your grave when the time comes."

Such words would certainly infuriate anyone else who heard them.

But today, He Chao had done so many baffling things.

Therefore, he had no right to be angry.

After all the effort he had put in to finally cuddle up to power,

he was living a prosperous life after marriage but harbored ulterior motives.

Indeed, he had shot himself in the foot.

However, seeing Zhang Hao was also there,

He Chao’s facial expression was a sight to behold; his mouth twitched twice before he hurriedly put on a smile.

"Xiao Qing, let’s not get a divorce. I still like you. Just think of me as having been confused. Those videos are actually produced by a buddy of mine," he said.

"You know I have quite a few needs in that department, but you always fail to meet them, so I thought of this bad idea."

"I just made a mistake for a moment, but my intentions are genuinely good, as long as you can forgive me."

"From now on, I’ll behave myself and won’t have any contact with other women outside."

To prove his sincerity, He Chao even took out his phone and handed it over to Zhao Qing.

"From this moment on, you can check my phone 24 hours a day, just input your fingerprint into it."

Zhao Qing didn’t take it, crossing her arms in front of her chest: "He Chao, why must you? During the day, you called me so many times disrupting my work."

"And now at night, are you planning to disturb my rest with my parents?" she asked.

He Chao licked his lips, unsure of what to say next to convey his true feelings.

But no matter what, he couldn’t accept that Zhang Hao was also there.

"The two of us haven’t divorced yet, and I won’t sign the divorce agreement. Are you in such a hurry to bring another man home?" he asked.

Zhao Qing glanced at Zhang Hao, who was sitting in the living room.

She smiled and said, "Doctor Zhang is my lifesaver, I brought him home to express my gratitude, what’s wrong with that?"

"Do I need to ask your opinion on everything I do? My parents are still here, it’s not your place to manage my life."

That sentence directly choked back the latter half of He Chao’s retort.

"He Chao, I already know about all the things you’ve done to my daughter."

"Tomorrow, a termination letter will be on your desk. I won’t make things difficult for you; I’ll use the most proper way to kick you out of the company."

As soon as He Chao heard his father-in-law speak like this, he immediately panicked. If he were to leave the Zhao Family’s company,

then all his misdeeds would surely be exposed, and finding another decent job would be harder than reaching the heavens.

Unless he left the city to seek opportunities elsewhere, but he lacked the ability to do so.

"Dad, please don’t do this, I truly realize my mistake. Just give me one more chance, surely... surely the word ’divorce’ doesn’t sound pleasant, does it?"

Zhao Jun was unmoved, "I would rather have my daughter leave a bad person like you than to let her suffer for the sake of face. I call this cutting the losses in time."

He Chao had never expected Zhao Jun to be so cold, especially since they were still a loving couple just yesterday, and today they had turned against each other.

This change was too abrupt.

Zhao Jun came before He Chao, and as an elder, he still possessed a sense of authority.

Add to that, he was also He Chao’s immediate superior, his dual authority forced He Chao to meet his gaze.

"Let all this farce stop here, He Chao. You better watch yourself."

Under Zhao Jun’s coercion, He Chao finally left.

But as he did, he left behind a harsh warning, "Zhao Qing, no one in this world loves you more than I do. You’ll regret this."

Zhang Hao witnessed all of this and thought about quickly forgetting it, yet Zhao Qing went straight back to her room.

Zhao Qing’s mother, Wan Rou, approached Zhang Hao, "It’s getting late, we should all rest."

"If Doctor Zhang doesn’t mind, you could stay here tonight. Driving home so late is too dangerous."

Zhang Hao was going to say it wasn’t dangerous, as he would get home quickly by car, but Zhao Qing suddenly returned.

"Doctor Zhang, you drank today, and even though it was just a small sip, it could be problematic if you encountered the police on the way back."

In truth, that sip wasn’t something Zhang Hao had intended to drink.

It was spicy during the meal, and he mistook alcohol for his drink.

Fortunately, it was just a small sip, nothing serious.

Since that was the case, Zhang Hao also found it hard to decline the offer, "Then I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I didn’t bring anything with me this time."

"Auntie, the next time I come, I definitely won’t come empty-handed."

Wan Rou merely smiled and didn’t say anything. As she left, Zhao Qing gave her mother a look, that expressive glance was a bit curious.

The guest room was ready, and Zhang Hao lay alone in bed.

Just as he was about to fall asleep, someone knocked on the door.

Zhang Hao had no choice but to get up and open it, expecting it to be the Zhao Family’s maid, but instead, he found Zhao Qing standing there.

"Doctor Zhang, are you comfortable in the room? If you need anything else, please feel free to tell me."

Zhang Hao felt there was nothing wrong with the guest room, and since he was only staying for a night, a little discomfort was no big deal.

"It’s quite comfortable, thank you for the hospitality of your uncle and aunt."

As he spoke, his gaze rested on Zhao Qing’s face and then drifted downwards, noticing something distinctive beneath the ivory-colored nightgown.

It seemed that Zhao Qing was also ready to go to bed and had taken off the clothes that constricted her body and mind.

He thought the silk nightgown was loose enough to disguise it, but apparently, it was wishful thinking.
