Chapter 498: Chapter 495: Can’t Find Anyone Else
He Qianhui managed a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, "You shouldn’t talk about others. Are you any better than them?"
Zhang Hao snorted, "What do you mean I’m no better than anyone else? At least I’m a manager now, and my monthly salary is more than enough to provide for you."
"But if he wanted to take care of you, he’d be working from dawn to dusk every day. He wouldn’t be able to enjoy lovey-dovey time with you like I do."
"Unless you’d like the idea of looking after the children and taking care of the in-laws by yourself in the future, without anyone to help you."
Considering this, He Qianhui thought carefully and felt that what Zhang Hao said made sense.
If she really did have children in the future and her husband wouldn’t lend a helping hand, life would be very difficult indeed.
With this in mind, He Qianhui still decided to sincerely cooperate with Zhang Hao.
That way, they would both be able to divide the work evenly and take good care of their children.
"Alright, I’ll forgive you for what you said just now," she conceded.
Seeing that He Qianhui had forgiven him, Zhang Hao started acting up again.
"Actually, if I had tried a bit harder back then, maybe I could have become a top student," he mused.
"Perhaps by now, I’d be earning an annual salary of a million and wouldn’t know how many beautiful women would be fawning over me."
Upon hearing this, the anger that He Qianhui had just quelled flared up again.
"Are you itching for a beating today? Is that it?" He Qianhui asked.
No sooner had she finished speaking than Zhang Hao hurriedly waved his hands, "I was just saying it off the cuff, don’t take it seriously. Can’t you take a joke? Think of it as me just teasing you, won’t you?"
He Qianhui looked at him sternly, "I don’t like that kind of joke. You better not make it again. As for tonight’s dinner, you’ll just have plain rice."
"The sweet and sour pork ribs and the steamed fish, I made them but the flavor wasn’t good, I’ve already thrown them away. Go take a shower now, and don’t let the rice get cold before you eat."
He Qianhui turned and walked away as Zhang Hao hurriedly washed off the shower gel from his body.
When he came out, he hadn’t even wrapped the bath towel properly around himself, his gaze immediately fixed on the dining table.
Seeing the tempting dishes on the table, he walked over and said, "You lied to me, saying it was all thrown away when you actually cooked so well. That’s naughty."
Just as Zhang Hao was about to taste a dish, He Qianhui quickly picked up the plate before he could.
"What tasting? Your dinner tonight is just this bowl of white rice. If it’s not enough, then you’ll have to figure out your own food by ordering takeout or cooking," she said.
He Qianhui placed the two dishes in front of herself and began to eat, completely disregarding whether Zhang Hao lived or died.
Zhang Hao looked aggrieved, "I mean, who am I doing all this for? Rushing around every day, and when I come home, I can’t even have a decent meal."
"It’s better off doing shifts at the hospital and eating in the cafeteria. Although the cafeteria food isn’t as delicious, it’s certainly better than plain rice," he complained.
Under normal circumstances, He Qianhui would certainly have felt that he was greatly wronged, but not today.
She felt that his predicament was entirely of his own making.
Therefore, He Qianhui didn’t show any sympathy or pity for him.
In the blink of an eye, the plate of sweet and sour pork ribs was almost empty and Zhang Hao hurried to fight her for a bite.
"Take it easy! You’re going to eat all of that big plate of sweet and sour ribs," he protested.
He Qianhui continued to pick ribs into her bowl, unfazed, as the plate dwindled to the last two or three pieces.
Zhang Hao grabbed the plate and pulled it in front of himself.
"These two pieces, give them to me, and the pork rib soup too. Who knew that after a hard day, all I could come home to is a bowl of rice soaked in soup."
He Qianhui couldn’t help but respond when she saw how pitiful he looked,"Who made you keep bringing up someone you shouldn’t in front of me? This is your punishment. If you have a problem with it, go to the police uncle."
Zhang Hao, seeing that she was feigning anger, quickly placated her,"How could such a trivial matter trouble the police uncle? Can’t we resolve it ourselves?"
He Qianhui didn’t look at him and, after finishing her own meal, cleaned up the bowls and chopsticks.
Zhang Hao followed her to the kitchen and discovered, to his surprise, that besides what was on the dining table, some pork ribs had been left in the kitchen.
Seeing the glistening red pork ribs, Zhang Hao chuckled,"I knew you wouldn’t let me starve. My wife is the best."
However, the next second He Qianhui picked up the extra plate of sweet and sour pork ribs.
"Wait, these ribs aren’t for you. They’re for my lunch at work tomorrow. Haven’t I told you already?"
"Your dinner tonight consists of only this bowl of white rice. Beyond this bowl, all you have left is boiled water."
Zhang Hao didn’t want to settle for plain rice, especially since he had already laid eyes on that plate of sweet and sour pork ribs.
There was no way he could let that dish go elsewhere.
"I’ll make you four-joy meatballs tomorrow morning to ensure you have a hearty lunch," he promised.
He Qianhui was skeptical, but in that moment, Zhang Hao finally succeeded in snatching the plate of sweet and sour pork ribs from her hands.
While He Qianhui was showering, Zhang Hao hurriedly filled his stomach.
The dinner was indeed appetizing that night; Zhang Hao ate three bowls of rice and still felt it wasn’t enough.
If it weren’t for the fact that he was ultimately too full, he would have gone for more.
Just then, He Qianhui came out from her bath, and the sight of her, particularly the slight blush on her cheeks, suddenly gave Zhang Hao another idea. He took the initiative and embraced He Qianhui.
He Qianhui struggled, repulsed,"Get away, don’t touch me."
Seeing her resist, Zhang Hao shamelessly retorted,"Why can’t I touch you? You are my wife after all."
"If you weren’t my wife, I wouldn’t be with you even if you begged me."
Hearing this, He Qianhui frowned,"So, you’re saying I should be grateful that you deem me your wife?"
Zhang Hao chuckled,"No need to go that far."
Before he could finish speaking, Zhang Hao swept He Qianhui off her feet and headed straight to the bedroom, where they became passionately entwined.
Half an hour later, Zhang Hao came out of the room to get a bottle of water. The cold water slid down his throat,
like a rainstorm dousing the fierce flames on Flame Mountain.
Back in the bedroom, He Qianhui was already sitting up.
"Oh right, I ran into a classmate today, and I might have to be her bridesmaid in a few days. Do you want to come along for the fun?" she asked.
Zhang Hao, hearing that He Qianhui was going to be a bridesmaid, quickly objected,"No way, how can you be a bridesmaid?"
"Don’t you know that the more times you’re a bridesmaid, the less likely you are to get married yourself?"
He Qianhui turned to look at him with a look of astonishment,"Are you saying you won’t marry me? Just because I was someone’s bridesmaid, you won’t marry me?"
Facing her confusion, Zhang Hao naturally denied it,"That’s not the case. Does your friend have no other friends? Can’t she find someone else?"
