Chapter 493: Chapter 490 It’s gotten worse

She had thought her body wasn’t as seriously affected as it had been that day, especially since she had been waking up in the mornings these past few days.

Even though the coughing was still violent, she hadn’t seen a single trace of blood, and she thought it was a sign of her body’s resistance strengthening, that she was slowly recovering.

So with this thought in mind, she came to the hospital to have Zhang Hao check her condition in person, to ease her own mind.

Through a couple of days of reflection, she had come to understand a truth: health is the capital of revolution; one shouldn’t neglect their well-being for the sake of making money.

Otherwise, all the money earned would be spent on treating one’s health, without enjoying a single penny of it.

If spending a little money could cure her, that would still be considered lucky, but she feared that the money would be spent and her health still ruined.

Then all her efforts would be in vain.

The outcome was unexpected—having returned to the hospital after just a few days for a check-up, the results turned out to be even more serious than before.

Xia Xin immediately panicked; without the cover of makeup, the emotional changes on her face were clearly visible.

Zhang Hao did not deceive her, "I’ll prescribe a few tests for you. Go get them done and come back to me once the results are out."

He prescribed several tests and handed the slips to Xia Xin, who hesitated for a long time before standing up with the slips showing her neat handwriting.

"Okay, I’ll go do the tests now. But you must wait for me in your office. Don’t be gone when I come back after the tests," she said.

Zhang Hao looked up at her and said, "You can rest assured about that. Even if you can’t find me, you can look for me in Internal Medicine."

At that moment, Xia Xin was somewhat angry. She had only written a few words with lipstick in the car.

She hadn’t taken a screwdriver to scratch and carve into the car; why keep harping on about it?

"You really are petty, but I have to get the tests done now. I can’t waste my time here with you," she retorted.

Xia Xin, carrying her bag and a few slips, left the department, and at that moment, the other two doctors curiously came over.

"Mr. Zhang, who is that girl? Is there something unusual between you two?" one doctor asked.

Zhang Hao raised his hand and lightly tapped the two doctors on the head.

"Focus on your work, stop gossiping," he scolded.

Another doctor deliberately put on a serious demeanor, "Let me remind you, Mr. Zhang, you have a girlfriend."

"In other words, your girlfriend is your fiancée, and you can’t do anything that would be unfair to her. We are all watching you," he warned.

Zhang Hao shook his head helplessly, indicating that there was nothing between him and that woman.

In matters between men and women, no amount of explanation would suffice; it would all be futile in the end.

Fortunately, another patient came for a consultation, interrupting the conversation.

Just as he had resolved that patient’s issue, the Director of Surgery came to ask for Zhang Hao’s assistance.

Zhang Hao knew there was no good news when he came over and didn’t even think of an excuse.

He was already getting up, ready to follow him out.

The Director of Surgery was surprised to see Zhang Hao reacting so quickly this time.

"Wow, why are you so eager this time? I haven’t even said what it’s about yet," he remarked.

"What else could it be when you come by? Let’s hurry, what kind of surgery is it this time?" Zhang Hao replied.

The Director of Surgery was straightforward, "It’s a car accident injury. I have three surgeries today and simply can’t handle them all."

"You need to be careful when stitching this one up. I heard the woman is a model."

"Where are the main injuries?" asked Zhang Hao.

"On the arm and leg," the Director of Surgery answered.

Before entering the operating room, a thorough disinfection is mandatory to prevent any pathogens from being brought in.

When Zhang Hao saw the accident victim, he was taken aback.

It was hard to imagine what kind of accident could have caused such severe injuries.

In such a severe car accident, to still be fortunate enough to survive, it could only be said to be incredibly lucky.

The Director of Surgery had already told him how the surgery should be done?

If anything unexpected occurred, he could adapt accordingly.

But Zhang Hao did not particularly like to improvise on the operating table.

Following the treatment plan given by the Director of Surgery, Zhang Hao proceeded step by step.

The first few steps went smoothly until they got to dealing with the blood vessels, which was somewhat less than satisfactory.

The wound surface was uneven, and the patient had not been brought in promptly enough. Some of the smaller vessels had already necrosed and could not be reattached.

It seemed it was time to adapt on the fly again, but luckily, Zhang Hao had assisted with surgeries in the department quite a few times.

Even when improvising, he managed to remain unfazed.

As long as the blood vessels that had been connected were not affecting normal blood supply,

it would not be a big issue if those small vessels were left unattached.

When suturing the injured area, Zhang Hao also kept in mind the words of the Director of Surgery.

He aligned and flattened the wound as much as possible, which would help in healing and make the scar less noticeable.

After finishing the surgery, Zhang Hao suddenly felt a wave of fatigue.

It seemed like a long time since he had performed such a surgery.

Indeed, his decision to open a traditional Chinese medicine department had been a wise one.

If he had stayed in surgery, just the operations alone would have kept him incredibly busy.

When he returned to his own department, he found that Xia Xin had already come back at some point.

Upon seeing Zhang Hao, Xia Xin immediately went up to him.

"Where have you been? I’ve been waiting here for you for so long, I was about to call you," she said.

"I went to do a surgical examination, has the result come out?" he asked.

"It has come out, take a look. I think my health is not bad, it’s not as terrible as you might think," Xia Xin said.

Zhang Hao had not yet looked at the examination results.

But he did not understand why Xia Xin would say such a thing,

"It seems you’ve had quite a few exams before, so you do have a certain understanding of your health. Otherwise, how would you know that this examination’s results aren’t too bad," he remarked.

After sighing for a while, Xia Xin returned to Zhang Hao’s desk and sat down in the chair next to it.

"Haven’t you heard the saying, ’A lengthy illness turns the patient into a doctor’?"

Zhang Hao was skeptical. Even if it were true that a lengthy illness turns a patient into a doctor, it would also mean that Xia Xin’s health had reached a point where it was untreatable.

However, looking at the current situation, her health still seemed fairly good. At the very least, she could still come in to consult about an illness herself.

If it had come to the point where she was powerless to seek treatment, she probably would have been critically ill long ago.

Looking at the examination report she handed over, Zhang Hao immediately turned on the computer without saying a word.

And his silence, in turn, elicited worry from Xia Xin, who thought her health was passable.

For one, she hadn’t been coughing much these past few days, and there were no serious annotations on the report.

If there had really been anything seriously wrong with her health, the doctor responsible for the examination would have informed her.

But that doctor not only did not say anything but also told her with a smile that her condition was good.

This response made Xia Xin a bit puzzled.

So now, she was very eager to know what kind of answer Zhang Hao would give her?
