Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Should I Call the Police?
"He Chao, you’re smearing me with this stuff just because my father didn’t help you climb higher up in the company."
"He’s old, he’s no longer able to help you. You should be getting promoted through your own efforts, not by clinging to coattails."
"Even if I did push you to the top, the people behind would pull you down sooner or later."
"When we first met, you were so honest, promising to give me a better life through your own hard work."
"But we’ve only been married for two years, how could you change so much? Was it an act all along, or has your heart truly changed?"
"I’d rather believe that your heart changed than think you’ve been deceiving me."
He Chao put away his phone and put on his glasses with civilized manner.
With his glasses on, he looked like a refined scoundrel, his lips curling into a sinister smile as he looked at his wife.
"Xiao Qing, every man for himself—if heaven fails to punish, then so be it. I’ve wanted to tell you some things for a long time."
"When I first approached you, I had already planned everything. I just wanted to use your family as a stepping stone to climb up the corporate ladder."
"But it failed, your dad actually ignored me, telling me to get the general manager position on my own merit, crossing a single log bridge among thousands of soldiers."
"I married you, thinking it was a sure thing, but since your dad didn’t help me, I had no choice but to let you suffer a bit."
Zhao Qing laughed with a decisive look in her eyes, "Fine, since you want me to suffer, I’ll make it quick for you."
"I’ve always been straightforward, and now that you’ve laid all your cards on the table,"
"I don’t need to cover up those things for you anymore. You accuse me of finding men outside, what about you?"
"Every time you go on a business trip, you hire prostitutes, don’t you? Returning from a half-month trip, the first thing you do is go to the hospital for a full checkup."
"To see if you’ve contracted any dirty diseases, do you know why I haven’t let you touch me since we got married?"
"It’s because I find you disgusting, not because I’m uncomfortable or frigid."
"I know all too well how much fun you have with those loose women."
"I wanted to maintain a facade of peace, but there’s no need now, you’re nothing but an absolute scoundrel."
"If I hadn’t been protecting you with all my might, do you think you could have kept your position?"
"Or did you think the Zhao family was on its last legs? I’ve already drawn up the divorce papers and signed them long ago."
"I thought if you could realize your mistakes, I’d let you off, but now I see there’s no need for that."
"The divorce agreement is in the bottom of the third drawer of the bedside table. Sign it when you get back."
"If you don’t sign, no matter, I’ll proceed through legal channels. I have all the evidence of your affairs and domestic violence."
"Even those videos and voice recordings you just played, the so-called evidence you forged, I have it all."
"Don’t say I’m too scheming. If I were really naive and sweet, I would have died many times over."
He Chao never expected his wife, who always acted like a fragile little rabbit, to finally show her fox’s tail today.
Realizing the seriousness of the problem, He Chao hurriedly went to his wife and grabbed her shoulders.
"Wife, I’m sorry, I had no idea, I was so confused just now. Please forgive me. Let’s go home now, let’s go home right away."
Zhao Qing raised her hand and pushed He Chao away.
"He Chao, do you really think we can go back to the way things were after what just happened? Is it possible that all your actions have already been part of my plans?"
After finishing, Zhao Qing took off the ring from her ring finger and returned it to He Chao.
Then she looked at Zhang Hao, "Doctor Zhang, thank you for blocking that vase for me just now. You should quickly check if you were hurt."
Zhang Hao moved his shoulder, feeling a bit of pain. The bottom of that vase was even thicker than a beer bottle.
This smack was no less painful than being hit with a brick.
"Nurse Zhao, could you take a look and see if it’s alright to apply some safflower oil?"
Zhao Qing nodded, took the safflower oil from a colleague, and accompanied Zhang Hao into the treatment room.
He Chao also wanted to go in, but was stopped by other doctors.
"Sir, the treatment room is off-limits to non-family members, you can’t disrupt the patient’s treatment, please wait over there for a while."
He Chao looked at the few people, grinding his teeth in anger, his features nearly twisting together.
"Fine, fine, so this is how you want to play, Zhao Qing I’m telling you, I won’t sign that divorce agreement, don’t think I’ll let you divorce me. I’ll drag this out and kill you with it. You haven’t let me touch you for two years; I don’t believe you haven’t been with another man in that time."
Despite He Chao’s insults outside, Zhao Qing turned a deaf ear as Zhang Hao took off his white coat and his own shirt.
"I didn’t expect Doctor Zhao to be so well-built, have you been training specifically?"
Zhang Hao shook his head, "I hate getting tired, maybe I was just born with a good physique. Is it swollen in the back?"
Zhao Qing nodded, "It’s red but luckily, there’s no open wound."
As she spoke, Zhao Qing poured a few drops of the safflower oil into her palm.
She warmed it up with her hands before gently massaging it into the bruised area on Zhang Hao, rubbing the oil into the skin.
"Nurse Zhao’s hands are really soft," Zhang Hao couldn’t help saying.
Zhao Qing, her head down: "Nurses shouldn’t be violent. Gentle hands are also better for treating patients."
"Of course, if Doctor Zhang wants me to use more strength, I can do that too."
Before Zhang Hao could respond, Zhao Qing increased her pressure on the affected area.
A pain piercing to the bone made Zhang Hao cry out involuntarily, "Are you trying to... to kill someone?"
Zhao Qing saw Zhang Hao’s pained expression and couldn’t help but laugh.
"Thank you, if you hadn’t blocked that vase for me just now, I might be the one injured."
"But how did you know my husband and I were arguing, did you overhear someone bad-mouthing me?"
Zhang Hao shook his head repeatedly, "Not at all, but every time I saw you before, you were always smiling."
"But this time, there was a bit of worry between your brows, so I just guessed."
"The person who could bring such negative emotions to your work must be someone very close to you."
Zhao Qing felt a bit dazed upon hearing this. In fact, she was not much older than Zhang Hao; she might even be younger.
"Doctor Zhang, your observation is indeed meticulous."
After applying the oil twice, Zhang Hao felt the bruise was much less painful than before, not as sore as at the start.
"I live alone, no one to apply medicine for me, could I bother you to do it the next few days, Nurse Zhao?"
Zhao Qing readily agreed, "No problem, come find me in the gynecology clinic tomorrow and I’ll apply it for you."
Zhang Hao dressed and put his white coat back on, coming out of the treatment room.
As soon as he came out, he saw He Chao being blocked by the doctors and nurses in the open space of the corridor, about ten meters from the treatment room.
"Doctor Zhang, are you okay?" a nurse from the surgical department asked with concern.
"I’m fine, as a grown man, a few knocks won’t kill me. Has the police been called?"
The nurse ah-ed and glanced at Zhao Qing who had just come out.
Shaking her head: "We haven’t called. Qing, should we call the police?"
