Chapter 467: Chapter 464: Watching the Bustle

The remaining customers are probably long-haul truck drivers, spending some money to buy meat and eating it as a meal on the road.

Anyway, it could not be the locals coming here to buy so much.

"Why don’t we buy some to take home, too?"

"Three plates of meat still aren’t enough for you, huh? If you’re not satisfied with the two plates just served, then let’s buy some to take home."

He Qianhui nodded again and again, both of them were really people with eyes bigger than their stomachs.

When something is delicious, they wish they could eat it endlessly, yet they cannot eat much.

After just a small amount, their bellies were full, and their taste buds became tired of the food.

Often, much of what they bought was wasted. Wasting money wasn’t a big deal, as it could be earned back, but wasting food was shameful.

The landlady came over with freshly cut meat and added a complimentary plate of sausage.

"It’s rare to have guests in the restaurant, so here’s an extra plate of sausage for you. If you need anything else, just call me."

After speaking, the landlady returned to the embrace of her man to continue watching their TV drama.

The couple’s movements were intimately coordinated, not minding in the least that there were other customers in the shop.

The two of them ate slowly, hardly making a dent in the bowl of rice.

But the plates of meat in front of them were picked clean, even the small pot of sausages gifted by the landlady was wiped out.

He Qianhui patted her belly, feeling as if she were two months pregnant.

When it was time to pay, the landlady simply sat in her man’s lap, with his hand continuously caressing her thigh.

But after all, they were husband and wife, so no level of intimacy was excessive.

"That’ll be three plates of meat, one plate of vegetables, and two bowls of rice. Since you’re guests from afar, I’ll charge you 300 in total."

At this price, He Qianhui was stunned.

"How much is a portion of meat, landlady?"

"Meat, eighty-eight a portion. That plate’s got a good half pound," said the landlady.

"And the vegetables?" Qianhui asked.

"The vegetables are thirty, rice is five yuan per bowl. Without any drinks, that comes to three hundred and four."

"I’ve already rounded down for you, what’s there not to be happy about?" the landlady said.

It was unexpected to get fleeced on their very first day here, but the meat was indeed delicious.

Outside of home, anything that can be settled with money is no issue at all, and besides, Zhang Hao had already anticipated such a situation.

He paid up readily. They had intended to buy a few pounds to take home, but hearing this price, Qianhui immediately backed out.

Had it not been for their hunger, the meat might not have been as tasty as it seemed. Suddenly, the landlady didn’t seem so friendly anymore.

Exiting the tin shack, they retraced their steps on the road they came.

Perhaps because the meal they had just eaten didn’t sit well, Qianhui didn’t take in any of the scenery along the way.

By the time they got back to the hotel, the front desk had changed personnel; Zhang Hao and He Qianhui went straight into the elevator.

Upon reaching their floor, they counted the room numbers as they walked.

Two doors short of their destination, they heard a commotion coming from across the hall.

"Get out, just get out! We’ve come all this way and you’re still thinking of hiring a prostitute. Let me tell you, we are breaking up right now!"

"I couldn’t control your messy private life before, but now that you’re with me, you have to do as I say in every respect."

Before the words were fully out, a man was thrust out of a room, still holding his shoes.

Seeing his wretched state, Zhang Hao quickly hugged He Qianhui close and walked along the wall to avoid being involved.

"Fine, let’s break up. You think you’re so great? Ever since I’ve been with you, my work hasn’t gone smoothly and my life’s been a mess. Just don’t regret it after we split up."

The man spat out his harsh words, and without missing a beat, the woman threw a pillow straight at him.

"Get lost. Don’t threaten me with that crap. How is your job trouble my problem? It’s your own lack of ability."

"If it weren’t for my dad promoting you, would you be where you are today? It’s all because you said the wrong thing in front of the big shots, messed up the work."

"And it was my dad who had to clean up your mess for you. This time, it’s for your sake, to change your mood and help you face life and work anew."

"I only brought you out for a change of scene. I can’t believe I arrived just two days late, and here you are chasing after chicks. Do you really think I’m loveblind?"

If it weren’t for fear of causing trouble, He Qianhui and Zhang Hao really wanted to witness the whole scene from start to finish.

They were curious about how the man would resolve the situation, but their room was just diagonally opposite.

As soon as they opened the door, they scurried inside and immediately pressed their ears against it after closing it behind them.

Fortunately, the door wasn’t very soundproof.

Zhang Hao also looked through the peephole, straining his eyes to see outside.

The man, locked out by the woman, scrambled to put on his shoes, kicked the door a couple of times in frustration, and then stormed off.

"This woman seems to be someone significant, and the man... too impulsive, if you ask me. It’s like he gambled out of desperation, or couldn’t hold back any longer. After all, living off someone is never easy," Zhang Hao said.

He Qianhui took Zhang Hao’s hand and went back into their room.

"You seem to know a lot about this. Have you done something like this before?" she asked.

Zhang Hao gave her an indescribable look.

"I’ve got good teeth, I can handle hard food just fine. Soft food, that’s for when I’m old and have lost all my teeth," he said.

The two were about to sit down and rest since they had just walked nearly ten thousand steps to and from dinner.

They felt like they had digested pretty much everything they ate on their way back.

Just as they were relaxing, they heard a knock at the door. Zhang Hao stood up to open it, thinking it might be hotel staff.

But as he opened the door, he was surprised to see the man who had just been scorned by a woman outside.

The man, out of breath, said to Zhang Hao, "Brother, can I borrow your phone to make a call?"

"Give me the number, and I’ll call for you. Is it for that lady just now?" Zhang Hao asked.

The man glanced back at the room, nodded, and after he gave the number, Zhang Hao dialed it right away.

In a few minutes, the door opened, and the woman looked at the man standing there and then at Zhang Hao still on the phone.

"Weren’t you full of pride? Why did you come back? Even asking a stranger to call me. It seems I’ve overestimated you. Get in here," she said.

After thanking Zhang Hao several times for his help, the man made a stylish turn and followed the woman back into their room.

Zhang Hao observed all of this, while He Qianhui hadn’t followed suit and stayed inside.

After closing the door, Zhang Hao, pointing towards it, commented, "That guy really knows how to bend and stretch, just like a spring."

Once the door was closed again, no one knew what might happen inside the room. Even if they were curious, they couldn’t just knock and ask if the two were fighting.

After a brief rest, He Qianhui began to study the itinerary for the next day. No matter how energized they were, they would have to spend the night in the hotel.

Only by planning the route well for the next day’s outing could they hope to get the most out of it.

Zhang Hao turned on the TV, which was showing some dull programs.

The only thing that seemed interesting was an old TV series, which Zhang Hao had watched over and over again with his parents, memorizing the lines.

Although there was nothing good on, at least the room wasn’t so quiet with the TV on.

"How’s the planning for tomorrow’s trip coming along?" Zhang Hao abruptly asked.

He Qianhui, selecting options on her tablet, then moved over and leaned against him.

"Take a look and see if this works out. Let’s start with the furthest place, and the weather is going to be good for the next couple of days. I heard some scenes can only truly be appreciated when the weather is nice," she said.
