Chapter 447: Chapter 444 Speaking in Sleep
"Is it possible that you left it at the company and didn’t bring it back? Why don’t I go to your office to pick it up for you later?"
He Qianhui shook her head quickly; she hadn’t drunk any alcohol yesterday.
"I’m sure I brought it back. The only possibility is that I threw it somewhere and forgot about it. Could you go look for it in the car?"
Zhang Hao didn’t hesitate, and immediately changed his shoes to go downstairs.
As soon as he opened the car door, he saw the black handbag. Zhang Hao immediately sent He Qianhui a message to reassure her, letting her know that he had found the bag.
But the moment he picked it up, Zhang Hao felt the weight of the bag.
He couldn’t help but wonder what could be inside, was it a piece of iron?
Carrying the bag back, he saw that He Qianhui hadn’t eaten yet.
Zhang Hao couldn’t help but urge her, "What kind of important matter could make you lose your appetite?"
"Today’s meals are all on me; you just rest at home."
He Qianhui knew that some things weren’t urgent at that very minute.
"Alright, I got it, but why would the hospital just give you a promotion and a raise for no reason? Did you make another significant contribution to the hospital?"
Zhang Hao shook his head repeatedly, "Not at all, what capabilities do I have to contribute that much to the hospital?"
"Originally, the hospital had chosen two people for promotion, one was me, and the other was the Director of Surgery."
"But the Director of Surgery immediately said that he wasn’t willing to be promoted. Firstly, he felt his abilities were limited, and secondly, he wanted to focus on treating and saving patients."
"So, in the end, the hospital leadership promoted me instead and even said I was young and could do more for the hospital."
"But I always feel like there’s a catch to this arrangement. Can you help me look at it and see if there’s any issue?"
"If there’s a problem, I’ll turn it down early and let the hospital arrange for someone else."
At this, He Qianhui also couldn’t figure it out on the spur of the moment.
"Maybe the hospital leadership values you and wants to provide you with more opportunity to excel. After all, this is a good thing, isn’t it?"
Whether it was a good thing or a bad thing, it had already happened, and there was no room for regret, so Zhang Hao could only accept it.
He Qianhui ate her breakfast in a hurry and also complimented Zhang Hao’s cooking, which had improved a lot from before.
Then she quickly devoted the rest of her time to reading the materials.
Zhang Hao didn’t want to disturb her and, wanting to make her reading more comfortable, he also specially cut some fruit and put it beside her.
In this way, she could eat and read at the same time, combining work and leisure.
Seeing that the fridge at home was nearly empty, Zhang Hao’s first thought was to go to the supermarket to buy some things.
Initially, he wanted to ask He Qianhui to come with him, but seeing how focused she was, he discarded that idea.
Arriving at the supermarket alone, he first went to the vegetable section.
Since he arrived early today, the vegetables were all fresh. He picked some of his favorites and He Qianhui’s favorites and put them in the shopping cart.
He also bought some snacks. The supermarket wasn’t crowded that early in the morning, so there was no need to wait in line for checkout.
Zhang Hao one by one took the items out of the cart, and the cashier quickly scanned the barcodes with the scanner in hand.
"Mr. Zhang, you’re buying so much at once; is there a party at your place?"
"Not at all, I’m off today and just wanted to make something nice for my girlfriend. I’m not even sure what she’d like to eat today."
"So I bought all sorts of things, and whatever we don’t eat, I’ll just put in the fridge."
The cashier smiled faintly as she scanned the last item.
Zhang Hao then flashed his payment code, laden with two large bags of items.
When he got home, he found that He Qianhui had fallen asleep on the sofa.
She had eaten half of the fruits he had cut for her, and regarding the spread-out materials, it seemed she had only flipped through a couple of pages.
After tucking her under a blanket, Zhang Hao grabbed some items and headed to the kitchen, where he already had planned out today’s lunch in his mind.
As he busied himself with cooking and was washing the vegetables, he suddenly heard He Qianhui talking in her sleep from the living room.
"No, no, stop, don’t do this, I have a husband," she mumbled.
At first, he didn’t think much of what she said, especially the last line, which piqued Zhang Hao’s interest.
Without even taking off his apron, he quickly walked over.
He too was curious what exactly He Qianhui was dreaming about.
Could it be some tall, muscular hunk?
But then He Qianhui slept peacefully afterward, not saying another word.
Zhang Hao finished making lunch and then shook her awake.
"Wake up, it’s time for lunch," he said.
Rubbing her eyes, He Qianhui realized it was already past eleven and let out an exclamation.
Slapping her legs, she said, "How did I fall asleep again? I’ve just wasted an entire morning."
"The manager asked me to finish reading these documents ASAP. I absolutely must not sleep this afternoon. Are you going to use the study today?" she asked.
Zhang Hao shook his head.
"That’s good, then. I need to use the study this afternoon to go through these documents. You better not disturb me," she said.
"Then I’ll just play some games. My game account hasn’t been logged into for over half a year," he replied.
And just like that, the two of them had their afternoon planned out.
After lunch, He Qianhui took a short rest before taking the thick folder into the study.
Zhang Hao was still very considerate, preparing coffee and some snacks for her.
Before he left, he made sure to remind her to work hard in the afternoon and not to fall asleep after just two pages.
Upon hearing this, He Qianhui knew he was making fun of her.
She thought about throwing something at him but decided against it upon realizing everything at hand was quite expensive.
So, she ignored Zhang Hao.
As the door shut, the study immediately fell silent.
Zhang Hao returned to the bedroom and turned on the computer. It wasn’t a problem to enjoy a round in the online game during his rare day off.
While the login screen took its time to load, Zhang Hao recalled that he had started playing this game in university.
Back then, he had all the time in the world and would spend every day gathering materials and crafting equipment with his teammates, until he graduated and it was time to find a job.
His gaming time grew shorter and shorter. In his memory, the last time he played was already over half a year ago.
Having not augmented his character in six months, he figured he probably couldn’t beat players of the same level anymore.
After wandering around in the game for a bit, he found it uninteresting; the friends in his list seemed to have been offline for a long time too.
He completed a few minor tasks and then felt the game wasn’t that fun anymore.
He logged off in a picturesque spot, unsure when he would log in again—maybe not until the distant future.
Zhang Hao then went to the living room and finished off the remaining half plate of fruit.
Just then, he saw He Qianhui come out of the study, massaging her temples and looking exhausted.
"These materials are so hard to get through. It’s like there are two little people fighting in my head," she said.
"One tells me to rest and sleep right away, while the other insists there isn’t much time left and urges me to read quicker, warning that I won’t be able to complete the task the company has given me if I don’t finish," she explained.
Zhang Hao gave a small smile, his gaze landing on the cup in her hand.
It had not been long, and she had already finished such a large cup of coffee.
