Chapter 422: Chapter 419 Old Thing
The police made things much easier, as the assault was a fact.
The old geezer, disrespecting his age, harassed a woman and insulted people; that was also true.
In the face of such matters, it seemed the police had experience in handling them.
Moreover, the way the police spoke to Old Wang suggested that similar incidents had happened before.
"Old Wang, why do you have to do this? You’ve been to our place so many times, you’re almost a regular visitor," the officer said.
"However, since you were hit, we’ve got to enforce the law impartially. Both of you, come with us to the station."
Zhang Hao explained his situation, and after considering, the police agreed.
Firstly, Zhang Hao settled his parents in a small hotel, especially since his dad was drunk.
When his dad gets drunk, sleep is his main activity, and after all, neither of his parents was involved in the brawl.
So they could rest there while Zhang Hao went to the police station to deal with everything before coming back for them.
"Hao, why couldn’t you control yourself, fighting with that kind of person? What good does it do you?" his mom couldn’t help but scold him.
Zhang Hao reassured his mom, "It’s okay, don’t worry, I’ll be back soon."
He Qianhui had also been involved, so she had to go along as well.
Once at the police station, a series of questions followed, helping the officers understand the whole conflict.
An older police officer commented, "That Old Wang, in his youth, was lazy and didn’t earn money."
"His wife stayed with him for a few years but then realized he wasn’t dependable and left him overnight, without even divorcing."
"But after so many years, their marriage probably doesn’t exist anymore."
Hearing what the police officer said, Zhang Hao was confused, thinking, what use telling me all this?
Could it be that he was the one who eloped with the old man’s wife? Impossible.
With the police mediating, Zhang Hao had already prepared himself for the possibility of having to make a compensation.
Fortunately, the police were fair, understanding that Old Wang was indeed the instigator of the entire affair.
Getting beaten up was his own fault.
"I heard you’re heading back to the city today. Once you sign here, you can leave. We’ll handle the rest," they said.
While signing, Zhang Hao curiously asked, "So what are you going to do with that old guy, detain him or just scold and release him?"
"I’m telling you, you can’t just let him off; if you do, who knows what bigger mistakes he might make in the future."
The police looked at Zhang Hao as though they knew better than him, urging him to sign quickly.
"Hurry up and leave, otherwise when will you get home?"
Upon leaving the police station, He Qianhui wore a face full of apology as she looked at Zhang Hao.
"It’s all my fault. If only I hadn’t gone to get the charger myself. And how could I forget such important things?"
Zhang Hao wrapped an arm around He Qianhui’s shoulder: "What are you talking about? If I were you, looking so good, so pretty,"
"And I went back to get my charger, it’s very possible I’d run into an old creep too."
"When it comes down to it, it’s all because we’re born too beautiful, which makes some people lose control and want to commit crimes."
With Zhang Hao’s comforting, He Qianhui’s guilt finally began to ease a little.
The two returned to the hotel, picked up his parents, and started their journey back home.
Making a stop at a service area, Zhang Hao used the restroom and bought snacks.
Perhaps because of the eagerness to return home, He Qianhui suddenly felt the journey back passed by especially swiftly.
After midnight, they finally arrived home. Zhang Hao first dropped off his parents before taking He Qianhui back to his place.
Zhang Hao suddenly felt grateful that he’d asked for an extra day off; by the time he finished with all the washing up, it would be at least two before he could get to bed.
He certainly didn’t want to be woken up by an alarm just as he fell asleep, groggy and stumbling off to work at the hospital.
At that point, one could hardly expect his medical compassion to be at its finest.
The events of the past couple of days and the surrounding circumstances had a significant impact on Zhang Hao.
Even after taking a shower and lying in his own spacious bed, Zhang Hao felt an unreal sensation.
He Qianhui even felt like it was all a dream until she came out of the bathroom.
She was wearing a silk bathrobe, and he saw her walking toward him while drying her hair.
Zhang Hao quickly adjusted his position, making room for her by the edge of the bed.
"You’re not going to work tomorrow, are you?" He Qianhui asked.
"No, but I might stop by in the afternoon. Why, is something up?"
Having wrapped her hair up, He Qianhui casually lay on Zhang Hao’s chest.
"Nothing, just asking. Give me your hand."
Zhang Hao, as if possessed, stretched out his hand, and He Qianhui looked at it over and over as if there was something on it.
"This is the hand you used to hit someone with today, right? Let me check if it’s hurt."
Hearing He Qianhui say this, Zhang Hao couldn’t help but laugh.
"How could it be hurt? Besides, it was to save you. Even if my hand really got injured, it would have been worth it."
"I’ve said it before, I won’t let anyone bully you."
Touching He Qianhui’s face, Zhang Hao felt extremely happy at this moment.
He had done what a man should do.
He Qianhui gazed adoringly at Zhang Hao, and who knows how long passed before it seemed like a fire ignited between them.
At first, it was as small as a candle flame, but gradually the flame rose until it engulfed them both, burning fiercely.
When they separated, Zhang Hao glanced at the time; it was already past four in the morning.
After cleaning up He Qianhui, Zhang Hao then held her as they fell asleep.
The two of them slept straight through to the next day’s noon, with the sun shining on their behinds.
The alarm set for the morning didn’t wake Zhang Hao, but what did wake him was a series of hurried knocks on the door.
He got out of bed immediately, and he had no recollection of how he walked to the front door to open it.
But as soon as he opened it, he saw his mother walking in.
"Oh, are you not working today?"
Scratching his head, Zhang Hao said, "I came back so late last night, how could I have the energy to go to work? What brings you here?"
"I made some stewed fish and cooked a few dishes at noon. I was afraid you two wouldn’t have anything to eat, so I brought you some. Find a plate quickly."
So his mother had come to bring them food, which saved them the trouble of scratching their heads over what to eat later.
"You cooked so much and brought it all to us?" Seeing the amount of food, Zhang Hao asked doubtfully.
"What’s wrong with bringing it all to you? Is Xiaohui still sleeping?"
Zhang Hao nodded.
"Alright, you guys eat this later, I have to go back now."
"Leaving already?" Zhang Hao asked.
"If I don’t leave, am I supposed to clean the house for you?"
Only then did Zhang Hao notice the clothes they had thrown all over the living room floor, both his and He Qianhui’s.
Old Wang came hurriedly and left in the same manner.
After Zhang Hao closed the door, he returned to the bedroom. He Qianhui, still half-asleep, pulled him back into her arms.
In a state between dreaming and wakefulness, she asked who had come.
Zhang Hao casually answered that his mom had come.
He Qianhui thought she had misheard, "Your mom came? Where is she?"
Before Zhang Hao could answer, He Qianhui suddenly opened her eyes wide and sat up in bed in a flash.
"What, auntie came? Where is she?"
This was the first time Zhang Hao saw He Qianhui so anxious and said with a laugh, "She’s gone, she just left."
