Chapter 41: Chapter 41 Putting on the Screws

As the two were talking, Lin Zhen appeared at the door of the ward out of nowhere.

He hadn’t heard the first part of the conversation, only the sentence Zhang Hao had just said.

"Zhang Hao, have you no shame, messing with my woman, and then asking her for money?"

"You’re so concerned about her affairs; you must be the biological father of the child in her womb, aren’t you? It’s not you, is it?"

"I never realized before how irresponsible you are, don’t you know that you should wear a condom when you do that sort of thing?"

Song Xin knew that nothing good ever came out of Lin Zhen’s mouth, so she grabbed a pillow from the bed and threw it at him.

"Lin Zhen, how many times do I have to tell you for you to believe that I’m not the kind of woman who sleeps with men casually?"

Lin Zhen sneered, "Whether you are or not is not for me to say, but in the end, it wasn’t me who forced you to climb into my bed."

"Do you want me to tell Zhang Hao about how you seduced me in bed with your allure?"

"You only eyed my family’s wealth, that’s why you went out of your way to come to me, don’t think you can hide behind your innocent looks."

"I could marry you, but not without seeing what kind of person you really are."

In front of Zhang Hao, Song Xin’s mood plummeted as Lin Zhen humiliated her.

Zhang Hao pitied her situation and immediately confronted Lin Zhen.

"Are you even a man, saying such things, and besides, you two aren’t even in a relationship anymore."

"What she does and says is none of your business, what right do you have?"

Seeing Zhang Hao talk back, Lin Zhen wanted to beat him up but was mindful of the fact that they were in a hospital.

"Zhang Hao, I’m telling you, if you stick up for this cheap woman, I won’t let you have an easy time in this hospital."

"Let me remind you, our hospital is the best in the city, and if you’re fired from here, think about where you could get a better job."

While they were speaking, Zhang Hao received a call from the head of the obstetrics and gynecology clinic asking for his whereabouts.

A woman was about to give birth naturally in the operating room, but the nurses didn’t have enough strength to assist.

They needed her to help, but Zhang Hao had no knowledge of obstetrics.

He was worried that not only would he not be helpful, but he might even be a hindrance.

Zhang Hao hesitated, but saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda.

He glanced at Song Xin and said, "You go back first, and if there’s anything you need my help with, call me anytime."

"Whatever it is, as long as I can help, I definitely will, not like some people who only add insult to injury."

Lin Zhen knew that Zhang Hao’s words were a veiled criticism of him, and he grabbed Zhang Hao by the collar.

Furiously he spat, "You son of a bitch, dare to repeat what you just said?"

Zhang Hao revealed the watch on his hand and said, "The director has called me over, if I am late, and the mother and child both lose their lives, can you take that responsibility?"

Lin Zhen was arrogant and unrestrained, but he was clear-headed when it came to matters affecting the hospital’s reputation.

He couldn’t have an incident and expect his father to step in and resolve it.

"I’m waiting for you to come out of the operating room, this matter isn’t going to be over so quickly."

Zhang Hao hurried out of the ward and headed straight for the operating room.

He meticulously prepared everything before the surgery, just as he did in general surgery.

The head of obstetrics and gynecology came over to him and told him about some precautions.

"You will follow her and learn on the spot, understand about pressing down?"

Zhang Hao nodded, in fact, many things in the operating room were universally applicable, obvious at a glance.

During the delivery, the mother encountered a minor problem, but ultimately, she was lucky and successfully gave birth to a daughter.

The mother didn’t have the strength to say much; when Zhang Hao brought the newborn to her,

The woman in labor merely glanced once before closing her eyes again.

The female nurse took the baby from Zhang Hao’s hands, saying, "Give her to me, you can rest too."

All the doctors and nurses in the obstetrics and gynecology department knew that Zhang Hao was transferred to their department because Lin Zhen, the director’s son, had given him hard time.

He didn’t really understand the basics of obstetrics and gynecology, but his willingness to help was appreciated.

Upon exiting the operating room, he then received a call from the hospital leadership, asking him to come to the office for a talk.

Zhang Hao had a sinking feeling that his first job might be coming to an end.

Upon reaching the office, which was empty, Zhang Hao sat in a chair fiddling with his phone.

Just a few days ago, he had been excited about landing his first job and about to receive his first paycheck.

But now, just a few days later, it seemed to be all falling apart, and after waiting for over twenty minutes, someone finally came in.

An older male leader arrived: "So you’re Zhang Hao."

Zhang Hao nodded, "Leader, what did you want to see me about?"

"Actually, it’s nothing much, just that the assessment of your recent work hasn’t been very good."

"Of course, your medical theory is sound, but you are lacking in clinical experience."

"You’re not ready to take on the work content in the hospital, so after an assessment by the hospital’s leadership team...

"It appears you might not be suitable to continue working here. Do you understand what I’m saying?"

Zhang Hao put his phone back in his pocket, smiled and said, "I know, I get it, you’re firing me, right? If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way."

Zhang Hao stood up, took off his white coat, and hung it on the back of the chair.

The leader, not expecting Zhang Hao to be so forthcoming, said, "Well, Zhang Hao, what are your plans now?"

Zhang Hao thought for a moment: "No specific plans, If worse comes to worst, I’ll just apply at another hospital."

"If not treating and saving lives, I might switch careers. At my age, I’m not worried about making money."

Zhang Hao walked out of the office and ran into Lin Zhen, who looked at him smugly.

"How is it? I told you, don’t fight me. Fighting with me just ends with you packing up and leaving."

"Even if Song Xin is a woman I played with and cast aside, I don’t like others touching her, especially someone I know."

Zhang Hao was baffled by Lin Zhen’s words, but he was no longer a doctor at this hospital and didn’t have to worry about Lin Zhen giving him any more trouble.

So he threw a punch directly.

Lin Zhen was tall and robust, slightly more so than Zhang Hao, but Zhang Hao’s punch caught him off guard.

Lin Zhen staggered back, eventually hitting the wall: "You dare to hit me?"

"Did you not think of this day when you were making things difficult for me? I want to do more than just hit you."

Zhang Hao had also studied theories of traditional Chinese medicine while he was in school, so he found it useful in dealing with Lin Zhen.

He applied what he had learned and quickly dislocated Lin Zhen’s shoulder.

Lin Zhen rolled on the floor in pain while Zhang Hao looked down at him: "If you cause trouble for me again."

"Or bother Song Xin again, I won’t just dislocate your arm; I’ll cripple you."

Lin Zhen glared at the receding figure of Zhang Hao: "Just wait, I won’t let you get away with this."

Zhang Hao, having lost his job, felt a bit despondent and unsure how to break the news to his family.

But there were other hospitals in the city, and after much thought, he decided to try applying to another one.

After a few days of rest, Zhang Hao received an interview notification from another hospital.

He got up early, ready to have breakfast and head out.

While listening to the radio on the way there, an emergency news bulletin suddenly interrupted the program, capturing Zhang Hao’s attention.
