Chapter 407: Chapter 404 Two-Person World
Zhang Hao had actually thought of this point long ago.
"I’ll just stay in the hospital on duty these next few days. With me personally watching over her, there shouldn’t be any big problems."
Since Zhang Hao had said this, the others had no reason to object.
"Doctor Zhang, then you’ll be very tired. How about I also stay to take the night shift? It will be a good chance to learn some new knowledge from you."
The young nurse volunteered, and seeing her so eager to learn, Qin Miaoke sighed.
"You’re offering to work overtime for free, let me tell you, our Mr. Zhang is already taken. All this eagerness you’re showing won’t be of much use."
The nurse retorted, "Me, showing eagerness? Miaoke, when have I ever shown eagerness, if not for the sake of the patients? Besides, I’ve only been in this department for a short time."
"There are still many things I only have a vague understanding of, so I hope to be competent in my job as soon as possible."
"Miaoke, don’t talk nonsense. If you keep this up, I might have to ask the head nurse to transfer me to another department again."
Seeing her react this way, Qin Miaoke couldn’t help but laugh: "Alright, alright, I was just teasing you. If you need my help, just say so."
That night after his shift, Zhang Hao went home to grab a change of clothes.
He Qianhui knew he might have to stay in the hospital for a while and felt reluctant to let him go.
"I’ve just returned from a business trip, and you have to go to the hospital, making it seem like I drove you away as soon as I got back."
"It’s just for three days. This patient is quite special. Being there, I can at least minimize the risk."
Hearing Zhang Hao say this, He Qianhui also felt anxious, "Then what about you? Why is this patient so troublesome?"
Zhang Hao replied while packing his things.
"She’s from the psychiatric hospital. Preliminary judgments are she might be having hallucinations or some psychological shadows."
"But I always feel this girl might actually be normal. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated these next few days."
Before leaving, Zhang Hao gently kissed He Qianhui on the face.
He also reminded her that the new house might be a bit of a hassle these few days and told her to take good care of herself.
After seeing off Zhang Hao, He Qianhui returned home alone, looking at the empty house.
Feeling a bit down, she thought about getting an early rest but unexpectedly received a call from Feng Nuo.
Having just returned and not been to the company, she figured this call was a way to signify her return from the business trip.
Feng Nuo repeatedly invited He Qianhui out for a drink over the phone.
Finding it hard to decline, He Qianhui reluctantly changed her clothes and left the house.
Upon meeting Feng Nuo, she saw a man with her.
He looked familiar. After Feng Nuo’s introduction, He Qianhui remembered.
Wasn’t this the client they had met during their first business trip?
He Qianhui pulled Feng Nuo aside and said to her in a low voice.
"Didn’t you say before it was impossible for you two to be together? So why bring him here now, to prove that you two are an item?"
Feng Nuo tilted her head and replied, "Not really, he said he came over this time for work and is returning tomorrow."
"I’ve just returned this morning. I thought since it’s a rare occasion, we might as well come out and relax. Xiaohui, don’t overthink it."
He Qianhui waved to the man, as a greeting.
"Am I overthinking, or are you pretending to be oblivious?"
Feng Nuo tried hard to justify herself in front of He Qianhui.
"I really didn’t mean anything, oh come on, we’re all here, let’s go in already, I’ve reserved our spots."
Lead by Feng Nuo, the three of them entered the bar together.
Compared to the others, He Qianhui’s outfit was rather plain today, dressed in long clothes and trousers and even her hair was unattended.
She just casually tied it up with a hairpin at the back.
For a moment, He Qianhui quite hoped that Zhang Hao would come over.
But then she thought about it, the likelihood wasn’t very high.
"The two of you have time to cuddle and hug here, better off finding a quiet place to spend some time alone together—it’s better than me standing here like a third wheel."
Feng Nuo, realizing that her behavior with the client was too intimate, quickly poured a glass of wine for He Qianhui.
"Xiaohui, don’t be mad, okay? And Mr. Zhang, hasn’t he finished work today?"
"A strange patient came to their department, and after work, he went home to pack a change of clothes and then went back."
"Anyway, it’s just me at home for the next three days. If it weren’t for your call, I’d probably be asleep by now."
Feng Nuo said with an apologetic face, "That’s all my fault, if I had known, I wouldn’t have called you out."
He Qianhui drank a glass of wine, her eardrums assaulted by the blaring music, and ended up staying for no more than twenty minutes before running out.
Breathing in the fresh air outside, He Qianhui decided to walk part of the way home and would hail a taxi when she got tired.
As for Feng Nuo, it seemed she took her suggestion and switched locations with the client.
To say there was nothing illicit between them, He Qianhui wouldn’t believe it, even if she were beaten to death.
But handsome men and beautiful women sparking some fire isn’t a problem.
It’s just that such a comparison highlighted He Qianhui’s own loneliness and boredom.
She didn’t know how far she had walked when she began to feel her ankles ache.
He Qianhui stood on the side of the road and hailed a taxi, reported her address once she got in, and then closed her eyes to rest her mind.
Yet she didn’t notice the driver who kept glancing back at her from time to time.
Fortunately, there were no accidents on the way.
Zhang Hao was on duty alone in the department, checking the wards every hour.
Around 2:30 in the morning, Zhang Hao dozed off in his chair.
In a half-dream state, he suddenly heard someone shouting loudly.
Zhang Hao immediately opened his eyes and got up to check the situation.
Sure enough, it was that girl with the psychiatric condition.
Oddly enough, since he came back from home, the other patients who had been in that ward.
Had all successively been discharged, citing family members who didn’t want to stay in the hospital for too long.
So they took their family members home to recover.
Otherwise, with that girl’s recent shout, she would have woken up all the other patients.
"Somebody, somebody... please go away..."
The girl, facing the empty ward, yelled for someone to go away.
Zhang Hao stood at the door, observing all her actions until she calmed down before approaching.
"When you were in the psychiatric hospital, you said there was someone at the head of your bed. I checked during the day."
"The sanatorium you were in is about twenty or thirty kilometers from here. Of course, this distance isn’t very far."
"That filthy thing has no reason to have followed you here."
The girl curled up in a corner of the bed, hugging her knees.
"I guess the sedative on you has worn off by now. Tell me your story, I might be able to help you."
The girl looked at Zhang Hao warily and remained silent.
However, Zhang Hao didn’t hold much hope.
"Are you hungry? You haven’t eaten all day. I have some bread and milk here, I’ll go get it for you."
